It Has All Lead To This; Super Bowl in Dallas, Texas, Aaron Rodgers Is Ready
The life of a quarterback. A thought we as citizens of society never think about because we have our own pressures to deal with as it is. The tumbles, the squabbles, even the sore muscles are what any quarterback in the National Football League would call "worth it". For it is worth it simply because of one event, and one date on the calendar, February 6, 2011, in Dallas, Texas. That date, that place, that event, is known as Super Bowl XXXXV, and it is between the powerful Pittsburgh Steelers, and the underdog high powered offense of the Green Bay Packers.
Both teams are lead by exceptional quarterbacks, one (depending on if he can clear his name off the field) is a proven first ballot Hall of Famer on the field, and the other is a rookie backup turned top three best quarterback in the league and rising fast. Both men have something to prove not only to themselves, but to each other, and together they can both have a moment of growth and validation.
Ben "Big Ben" Roethlisberger has been known for his reckless behavior off of the field ever since he got drafted into the league several years back. After winning his first Super Bowl after only his second season in the league, people thought Roethlisberger actually had a chance to become something great, while others thought he had peaked way too soon and it's only downhill from that point on. Than, the dreaded motorcycle accident happened, and then everyone saw the reckless behavior thereafter of a man who thought highly of himself too much off the field.
Many veterans in the league wanted to teach him a lesson and deservedly so. But then, something amazing happened, he won his second Super Bowl a couple seasons later in a gutsy match up against Kurt Warner's Arizona Cardinals, and that victory solidified his legacy in the league and gave the Steelers their record sixth championship in the league, making them the record holders for championships.
Everything was well and good after that, right? You would think so, however, than the rape accusations occurred with two different women at two different moments in time, making Roethlisberger not only the accuser, but a victim of a tarnished reputation. This third Super Bowl victory will not only make him one of the most talked about "big game" competitors on the field, but will give his fans and his family as a whole closure over the past accusations and negative events that have occurred thus far.
Than, there is Aaron Rodgers, the leader of the Green Bay Packers. Him with his brazen good looks and strong arm have given him tons of attention in the league thus far. After the cries from fans all around the country begging for him to finally be given his just desserts in the league, he was given it, and he did not disappoint.
His first full season in the league he leads the Packers to a playoff berth, and even racked up forty-five points in the process for good measure. After the regular season closed in 2010, he is now the only quarterback in history to have more than four-thousand passing yards their first two full seasons in the league. After 1611 passing attempts, 1038 completions, and 12,723 passing yards, Rodgers will finally be given his chance in the spotlight in the biggest game there is in his sport.
After finally getting out of Brett Favre's shadow and after only two full seasons in the league, he has already lead the Packers to half as many Super Bowls as Favre has, and, with a victory, it will give him just as many championships as Favre ever won. That is a legacy to be proud of, and will put them pretty much on equal footing. Can Rodgers do it? Will Roethlisberger take away the opportunity and make himself a legend over night? It all remains to be seen, but we all know already, it will be one very exciting moment in time either way. Enjoy the game!
