Senior Bowl 2011: Quarterbacks Tennessee Titans Fans Should Watch For
What a weekend in football when the only two games on are the Pro Bowl and the Senior Bowl.
Watching players that play for the Titans makes the Pro Bowl fun, but who do you watch in the Senior Bowl?
Well, here is a series for Tennessee Titans fans as I will break down all the players fans should watch this saturday.
Today, I will start with the quarterbacks. It seems to be the most talked about position for the Titans this offseason.
Here are the quarterbacks that Titans fans can watch for this Saturday:
North Team
Jake Locker, Washington (Projected Round: 1-2)
This is a guy the Titans may have a serious shot at in the NFL Draft.
In 2010, Locker was predicted to be the first quarterback taken. Instead, he returned to college football for his senior year only to see his numbers take a dip.
Despite his dip, he still had a very respectable season, considering he dealt with illness and a broken rib for half the year.
Locker can be compared to Aaron Rodgers in the NFL. He has an amazing arm, but at the same time can scramble. He holds the University of Washington’s record for the most rushing yards by a QB in a season.
Watch for his scrambling ability on Saturday. If he can hit targets against elite college cornerbacks, his stock may rise come draft day.
Colin Kaepernick, Nevada (Projected Round: 3-4)
Nevada just came off the best season they have ever had in school history and it is all thanks to Kaepernick.
The Titans like small school guys, and while Nevada is not necessarily small, it is no BCS powerhouse.
Kaepernick may turn out to be a draft gem for whoever takes a chance on this guy.
He is the only player in college history to rush for 4,000 yards and pass for 9,000 yards in a career.
He is an all purpose quarterback with the most important intangible of all: winning.
South Team
Christian Ponder, Florida State (Projected Round: 2-3)
Ponder is an excellent quarterback with an injury issue. He may be a second round steal for the Titans if they decide to draft defense in the first.
Locker and Ponder have pretty much the same skill sets as well as the same faults. When healthy, Ponder is considered to be one of the best in the country; the problem is he can’t stay healthy.
His biggest upside is his experience in a pro-style offense. This would allow him to transition easier and possibly start immediately for Jeff Fisher’s final contract year.
Andy Dalton, TCU (Projected Round: 4)
The Titans have shown interest in Dalton this offseason. He could be the surprise pick that shocks the NFL.
Dalton is very underrated, considering what he has done: He took TCU to the Rose Bowl, won and got MVP of the game.
He may not be the most accurate or the strongest quarterback in the draft, but he has a quick release and he knows how to run a line of scrimmage.
Changing plays and reading defenses is his strength. Despite how well he plays, it is unlikely he will move up to the first round, so this could be a guy the Titans take in round two if he plays well.
