Super Bowl 2011: 25 Halftime Performances We're Dying To See At the Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is more than just the biggest football game of the year, it is an event of epic proportions.
The week long extravaganza culminates with a celebration of confetti, tears, and speeches from speechless players.
Its not just a football game; although coaches tell their players that, the extended commercials, security, and of course, the halftime show make it much more of an event than an actual football game.
Since the wardrobe debacle with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake in 2004, the Super Bowl has featured a string of older musical acts in the form of Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, and The Who.
Now, in 2011, they feel confident enough to jump back in the ring with a younger musical group by the name of The Black Eyed Peas.
Here's a list of 25 artists we're dying to see at halftime in the future (and mind you there is a bit of music for everybody featured on this list).
AC/DC
1 of 25Sitting on a bus en route to an away game, in the home locker room before walking out onto the field, or in the weight room during the offseason—nobody rocks a football player's mind like AC/DC.
The Australian rockers still tour the world and make music for millions of fans every year.
They have put out some of the most heart-pumping tracks known to mankind and could very possibly get the players out from their locker rooms early when Thunderstruck starts up.
Kings Of Leon
2 of 25The southern band of brothers from Tennessee have steadily grown in popularity since the early part of the decade and now are a worldwide hit.
They have an eclectic mix of music which draws fans of multiple genres and can rock the house down with certain tracks.
They are exciting group to watch live and love their football too; drummer Nathan did a spot on ESPN's College Game Day this season giving his game picks with Herby and Corso.
Jay-Z
3 of 25The Brooklyn-born rapper is a part owner of the New Jersey Nets and as well known as man on the planet.
He would undoubtedly have a solid group with him to collaborate and would certainly draw a spectacular audience.
Dave Matthews Band
4 of 25The name says enough.
A huge fan base with a ton of tracks that people know even if they don't listen to him.
He helped open the NFL season this year with a concert and is no stranger to the big stage. Fans flock from all over to see him play live.
Bon Jovi
5 of 25The No. 1 touring artist this past year still spins out incredible live shows and fans show their love by attending every one of them.
We already got a true taste of New Jersey love with Bruce Springsteen a few years ago, but it just so happens that another band came out of the state too.
Bon Jovi certainly is not Bruce, but he can rock it down pretty heavy and is a draw for all types of fans.
Taylor Swift
6 of 25The young 21-year-old American is one of the top touring acts in the business and has a huge following.
Swift would draw a whole new audience to an event that is always looking to draw more attention.
She has also done some NFL work before, helping Dave Matthews open the 2010 regular season.
Rihanna
7 of 25Rihanna stormed onto the scene a few years back and has collaborated with some of the very best in the game while turing out some of the catchiest tunes we know.
Her music and style is some of the most unique around and her name is quite popular.
Rihanna would put on a show at the Super Bowl.
Eagles
8 of 25Its the Eagles for goodness sake.
They were already offered the Super Bowl once before and would certainly be a worthwhile act if they were to ever accept.
They are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and have the best selling album in American history.
I'll say it again, its the Eagles for goodness sake.
Katy Perry
9 of 25The pop rock star has put out some of the catchiest tunes in recent memory and has looked pretty good doing it too.
She'd draw the attention of females and would certainly draw the eyes of males as well.
She's already had four No. 1 singles in the US in her short career.
Kanye West
10 of 25The once-producer turned rapper has put out numerous No. 1 albums in the United States and knows how to put on a show.
His fan base is incredible and he would light up the Super Bowl with his music and performance.
Kenny Chesney
11 of 25One of the biggest and most popular touring artists in the country, Chesney would be a great a fit at the Super Bowl.
Country music may not appeal to everyone living on either coast of the United States, but we often forget how big this country really is.
Chesney is a country music star and would be a fantastic act for the Super Bowl.
The Black Keys
12 of 25This American rock band would just be an awesome change up; their sound is best described as blues-rock.
The band features only two members but they can make some noise and would simply be an awesome addition to a Super Bowl halftime show.
Ke$ha
13 of 25I'm not sure who or what Ke$ha is but apparently she makes some seriously catchy beats.
She had a No. 1 album with her debut release and a pair of No. 1 singles.
Her presence at the Super Bowl would certainly draw attention, as well as a broader audience to the halftime show.
KISS
14 of 25Does not get much better than the heavy-metal rocking KISS performing at the halftime of the Super Bowl.
Loud, borderline offensive in their antics and wildly popular; KISS almost embodies everything that football is.
Tim McGraw
15 of 25The insanely popular country music star with acting chops is one of the hottest touring tickets in the country.
McGraw played Don Billingsley's father in the 2004 Friday Night Lights film, a role all football fans remember, as well as the adoptive-father to Michael Oher's character in the film, The Blindside.
Although I don't listen to him, I'll give him the time of day just because of that.
McGraw was in the top 15 touring artists in the country this past year.
The Killers
16 of 25The American pop-rock band hit it pretty high on American charts and "killed" it over in the UK.
They have evolved into an interesting sounding group but have attracted a lot of fans along the way and would certainly put on an awesome show at the Super Bowl.
Nicki Minaj
17 of 25One of the hottest names around right now, Nicki Minaj would kill it at the Super Bowl with a combination of looks, catchy tunes and flair.
Her popularity continues to grow and eventually she could earn her way on the stage of a Super Bowl halftime show.
Like many of the other female artists, she would attract a broader audience and would also drag some male eyes away from the food at the Super Bowl party as well.
The Strokes
18 of 25Another one of those bands that would just bring a different sound to Super Bowl; the Killers would put on an absolutely awesome show.
Their last two albums got into the top five on U.S. soil and have consistently done a killing in the U.K.
They would be a very welcomed differentiation from the standard of Super Bowl performances.
Rascal Flatts
19 of 25Not just another one of those country bands, the country band with an absolutely insane following.
They always destroy the country album charts and would be most certainly put on a great show at the Super Bowl.
Another solid departure away from the mainstream acts we are always fed.
Queen
20 of 25As if Queen could ever be left off this list. The champions themselves would put on a rocking show.
It is not the same without Freddie Mercury, no doubt, and they would have to bring a couple others back, but hearing We Will Rock You at halftime is certainly one way to get pumped at halftime.
Muse
21 of 25Muse would be another terrific departure from the norm at the Super Bowl.
An English, alternative rock band with a great catalog of jamming tunes, they continue to get more popular in the United States after dominating in the U.K.
A fun, exciting band to see live, they would put a serious beat down on the Super Bowl (in a good way).
Red Hot Chili Peppers
22 of 25What is there to say about the Red Hot Chili Peppers that they haven't already said for themselves?
This band simply rocks and while they may be a little unorthodox for the Super Bowl, it would an awesome show for the viewers.
They have been doing it for such a long time and they have gathered tons and tons of fans in the process.
This would just be an incredible show.
Gorillaz
23 of 25An extremely intriguing musical group, Gorillaz is one of the most outrageous bands with awesome potential to rock a Super Bowl halftime show.
They use four animated characters as the band for exploring their "world" and have continued to gain popularity in both the U.S. and the U.K.
They certainly are not the typical band but they have the potential to put on an awesome and engaging experience on at the Super Bowl.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
24 of 25Already featured in an NFL commercial earlier this season as well as a few other commercials, Edward Sharpe is an outrageous ensemble band that simply JAMS.
Their music is catchy, upbeat, exciting, and they put on an awesome, awesome show.
They sing with heart and spirit and would be a revelation at the Super Bowl.
Even if you have never heard of them, they will catch your attention when they are on stage.
Led Zeppelin
25 of 25What in the world could be better than seeing Led Zeppelin alive and on stage one more time?
They gave us a one-off concert in 2007 in memory of record head Ahmet Ertegun with John Bonham's son, Jason, rocking the drums.
They have not given us anything since and it pains all of us younger fans that will never have the opportunity to see what is arguably the heaviest rocking band of all time in front of our faces.
Led Zeppelin—Super Bowl, make it happen.
