Super Bowl XLV: Answers to 10 Questions Your Girlfriend Might Ask

Eric BowmanJan 26, 2011

The Super Bowl is the most watched program all year. Millions upon millions watch it every year and don't expect this year to be any different.

There's a possibility that an NFL lockout is looming ahead and this could be the last game fans get to see for awhile.

Since everyone will be watching you'll probably get a few annoying questions from those who don't normally watch football.

Here are ten possible questions your date or girlfriend might ask you during the big game.

1. Why is it Called Football When They Don't Use Their Feet?

Well darling, we Americans stole the name of the most popular worldwide sport.

The game derived from rugby and a guy name Walter Camp adapted it into what we know today.

And they do use their feet. You'll see, it's called a punt or a kick. And there will be a lot of that tonight.

2. Who is Playing?

Be prepared for this question. If you're attending a Super Bowl Party sometimes there are those guests who are completely clueless about football. They're just there to party.

The Green Bay Packers made quite a run as the sixth overall seed in the NFC. They take on the Pittsburgh Steelers February 6, 2011 in what is sure to be a good game.

3. That's a Giant Screen, Where Are They Playing?

3 of 10

Yes that is a giant screen. It's 60 yards. And it's home is Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington Texas.

It is the creation of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He loves the big flashy things.

Kind of like you.

4. Why Are There So Many Girls Playing?

Believe it or not those are men. Both teams have players who like to let their hair down. I guess it's a west coast thing.

Troy Polamalu, Clay Matthews, and A.J Hawk take the risk of having the long hair. You know you'd tackle them by their hair. It's just out there, screaming for somebody to grab it.

Follow up question: Why don't you grow your hair out like that?

No thank you. Some of you reading this might not have that luxury. I apologize. I know my days are numbered.

5. I Thought They Only Let Old Guys Play at Halftime?

Normally they do. But the NFL is taking a risk this year and letting pop music back into the halftime show.

Ever since the wardrobe malfunction of Janet Jackson they have played it safe. They've decided it's time for a change. And thank goodness for that.

This song will probably be beaten into our brains before the night is over. But it will be a good night, unless you're rooting for the losing team.

6. Why are Fans Waving Towels?

That's just what they do. Some teams have thunder sticks. Other teams shout crazy chants. Pittsburgh fans wave towels.

It's called the terrible towel and it was first created in 1975 by the Steelers radio broadcaster Myron Cope. It is widely viewed across the nation as a symbol of Pittsburgh.

It's black and yellow and a best seller.

7. So Is That What Wiz Meant?

7 of 10

If she's into popular music she's probably heard the song "Black and Yellow" by rapper Wiz Khalifa.

He wrote the rap in honor of the city he's from, Pittsburgh.

It reached the top five in the billboard charts.

Because Green Bay's colors also have yellow it in, it was easy for a parody

8. What Is This Lock Out They Keep Talking About?

The NFL Owners are in a bit of a feud with the NFL Players. They're trying to work out a collective bargaining agreement. If they don't there will be a lock out, which means no football.

The owners want to make it an 18 game schedule and the players are concerned about their safety. The players want more money for their post career health care. They want to know they will be taken care of once their playing days are over.

If it happens fans will be crushed and somebody has agreed to take a pay cut.

Let's hope they work things out.

9. They're Funny, But Why Are There So Many Commercials?

9 of 10

There's been a study and Super Bowl ads are growing. Not only are they costing more, there's more throughout the game.

Are we wasting our time watching them? Maybe we are but so many people enjoy watching them that I guess it's okay.

That's why companies pay in the $2millions for 30 seconds.

10. Hey Didn't We See That Guy in Milledgeville?

Yes we did. And he allegedly did some pretty bad things. You know drink, buy drinks for under age girls, and oh yeah, sexual assault.

Nothing was proven and Ben was set free. He was suspended by the NFL for four games. And now he's in the Super Bowl.

I hope he's learned his lesson, and if he wins the big dance, I hope he doesn't party too hard.
