Aaron Rodgers vs. Ben Roethlisberger: Who Has the Edge at QB?

Kyle VassaloJan 25, 2011

Ben Roethlisberger has a chance to seal his place in football lore. Only a handful of quarterbacks have won multiple Super Bowls in the history of the league. Peyton Manning isn't one of them.

Roethlisberger could secure his third ring before he even reaches the age of 30. Roethlisberger is obviously not on the fringe of completing a dynasty solely based upon his individual accolades. He has played under great head coaches and with the support of an elite defense.

Super Bowl rings No. 1 and No. 2 came by taking out the Seahawks and Cardinals, both heavy underdogs. His journey to obtain No. 3 will involve winning the Super Bowl as the underdog for the first time in Roethlisberger's brief career.

At the helm on the other sideline is Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in football, though he was snubbed from Pro Bowl honors this season. Since the playoffs began, Rodgers has a 109.2 QB rating, compared to Roethlisberger's 75.5 QB rating.

Rodgers is 27, and has never won a Super Bowl. Even so, nobody is playing better than Aaron Rodgers right now. A victory against the Steelers could put him in an elite class of quarterbacks. Failing to do so could begin the "can't win the big one" talks.

So who would you take with everything on the line? Roethlisberger has been there and done that. Are the lights going to be too bright for Aaron Rodgers? Aaron Rodgers is clearly having a better post-season, but Roethlisberger's hardware just might be enough to give him the edge.

I think Aaron Rodgers is the better quarterback. He can move better than Roethlisberger can, and nobody is playing with the sort of execution that he is. That being said, on the biggest stage, Roethlisberger has proved his worth. He led one of the best drives in Super Bowl history.

The Packers are happy to be in the Super Bowl. The Steelers believe a loss in this game justifies the designation of a losing effort for the 2010 season. If it were a regular season game, I would probably go with Aaron Rodgers. Considering this is the Super Bowl, I give the edge to Big Ben.
