NFL, NBA and College Basketball: My Whirlwind Weekend
I didn't even turn my phone on Sunday. No one could have any news that could make the two NFL Conference Championship Games better.
The games were not great but I was entertained.
The Super Bowl matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers is truly amazing. These are two storied franchises not only in football, but also in the American sporting landscape.
This is strange for me, but one of my favorite players is Charles Woodson, a former Wolverine who shredded the Buckeyes in his run to the college Heisman.
He was in the Super Bowl as a Raider, was left for dead on the Raider scrap-heap and is now going to the Super Bowl as a Packer.
He is one reason that I am going for the Packers.
The Jay Cutler Twitter Media Storm
1 of 6
Throughout the first half, Jay Cutler looked thoroughly outmatched by Dom Caper's defensive schemes. He left the field late in the second quarter to get treatment for what turned out to be an injured MCL in his knee.
He gutted it out for one second half possession then shut it down. Then the guys who were not playing in the game started to use Twitter to come after Jay Cutler. The media was caught in the middle of this Twitter Media Storm and they reported what the NFL players were saying and suddenly a story developed that was actually addressed on the pre-game show for the AFC Championship Game.
The truth is that Cutler was ineffective then he was hurt and if you are upset because of his body language then you were already mad.
I saw a young QB that was not quite ready for the moment. Before he could possibly get it going, he was injured. The Bears are still behind him and that is good enough for me since those are the guys that Cutler has to be accountable too.
Cutler doesn't owe Maurice Jones-Drew jack.
Carmelo Anthony Wants To Be a Knick

It takes a ton of balls to leave a three-year, $65 million contract sitting on the table, and that is what Carmelo Anthony is doing.
A trade to New Jersey was nixed because Anthony let them know that the contract would sit on the table out there as well.
The guy wants to be a Knick and now that the Knicks are much closer to being a good team, they could really use his talents as well.
Cleveland was in the same spot last year as they had a contract on the table for LeBron James. The Cavs chose to not trade James, hope for a title and hope that he came back. Well, the Cavs' hopes were dashed. Does anyone remember that LeBron scored fifteen points in a pivotal Game 5 loss at home to Boston?
It is tough, Denver fans, but your management has a much better clue than the Cleveland brass did and I hope that results in a better post-Anthony era than what Cleveland is suffering through post-LeBron.
Speaking Of LeBron James

This guy is an all-time talent. He is as close to a melding of Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan that we will ever see.
But every time he opens his mouth or shoots off an uninspired tweet, we all get reminded that he is also very similar to a fictional movie hero as well:
Bull Durham's Nuke LaLoosh
They both have million dollar talent and they both have ten-cent heads.
The Undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes

No one can question Thad Matta's ability to recruit. Jared Sulinger is the next stud in line following Evan Turner, Greg Oden and Mike Conley, Jr.
The Buckeyes lacked depth last year as they fell in the Sweet 16 to Tennessee. They look to be a contender again as we are inching closer to March.
Like Bill Self before him, can a great recruiter like Matta get over the hump and make the run for the National Title in March?
Will Arizona Be Back in The NCAA Tourney?

Last year's NCAA Tournament had a strange feel as Arizona, UCLA, Connecticut and North Carolina did not make the dance.
UCLA is struggling, but the other three look to be on their way back to the tournament. After a tough win at Washington State,Sean Miller has his Wildcats in position to compete for a Pac-10 title.
The glory days of Lute Olson were very nice for Tucson. This team has a look of future glory that is very exciting after what has been a strange four years for the Arizona Wildcats.
My Super Bowl Pick

Most of the time in life, we are lucky to break even. Look at the Packers—they got rid of a franchise quarterback in Brett Favre and replaced him with a franchise QB in Aaron Rodgers.
They broke even and they were lucky to do it.
The Jets have this tough team with a solid coach but they have a young quarterback in Mark Sanchez.
No one really bought into the Bears all year and they fell a touchdown short. Just think if Brian Urlacher gets past Aaron Rodgers after his game-turning interception.
And the Steelers are the reason I mentioned the breaking even thing. If the Packers win then the Steelers lose and I will be happy. If the Steelers win then, they win in Cowboy Stadium, and I will be happy.
For one time in my life, I can't lose here.
