2011 Super Bowl: Top 10 Things to Expect From The Packers-Steelers Matchup

April WeinerJan 24, 2011

Super Bowl XLV is finally only two weeks away.

Now that only two teams are left standing in the postseason, we have two weeks of anticipation before the game is actually here. It's time for everyone to make their predictions over who's going to win the game and what crazy shenanigans are going to occur.

So here's my list of top 10 things to expect. Enjoy!

10. Nostalgia

Everyone will be reminiscing about the good-old days, with the matchup of two historically dominant teams. Before the Super Bowl event was established back in the day, the Packers dominated league championship games, winning nine of them.

And of course, the Steelers have won the most Super Bowl titles, with six. These numbers will be ingrained into viewers' brains by the end of the event.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys Comparisons

With their eighth Super Bowl berth, the Steelers have tied the Cowboys record. Plus, with the location of Super Bowl XLV being at the new Cowboy Stadium, the topic will be even hotter.

Additionally, the Cowboys have five titles, one less than the Steelers. Meanwhile, the Steelers are playing for their third in the past five years.

8. Cowboy Stadium

Speaking of the Cowboys, there will be a digression into talk about the Cowboy Stadium: how much money Jerry Jones spent on it, if it's worth the over $1 billion price tag, etc., as they watch the Super Bowl festivities and craziness unfurl.

The screen will be a topic of discussion probably as well.

7. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers Comparisons

Remember when Brett Favre left the Packers and there was all that talk about him versus Rodgers? Well with Favre’s latest retirement and the fact that his former team is in the Super Bowl under his successor, it will be brought up again and again.

6. Media Day Antics

Media Day is one of the most entertaining parts of the Super Bowl, besides the game itself naturally. Aaron Rodgers will likely be inundated with questions about Brett Favre. Of course everyone will be asked those personal questions, that don’t pertain to football or the matchup at all.

Look for reporters to awkwardly tiptoe around the subject of Big Ben’s off-field troubles prior to the season because they’ll want to bring it up, but not want to seem like they’re dwelling on the past.

5. Ben Roethlisberger

Speaking of Big Ben, while reporters may hesitate to bring up the touchy subject again, announcers will not.

They’ll repeatedly reference it, if not just to pay the Steelers a compliment for pulling through his absence.

4. The Game Itself

The game itself will be a star-studded event. Being in Dallas, there will surely be lots of stars in attendance. And surely, Jerry Jones will help the NFL put on a real event to showcase the full effects of his expensive stadium.

Christina Aguilera is singing the national anthem and the Black Eyed Peas are performing the famous half-time show.

As for the game, it should be low-scoring, making every point count.

3. Breakout Stars

With all the focus on Rodgers and Roethlisberger, this will free some of the pressure of the championship off the shoulders of a young, lesser known player. Some player will make a huge play and become a household name following this year's game.

Clay Matthews, Tramon Williams, or A.J. Hawk for the Packers and Ryan Clark or James Harrison for the Steelers are my guesses.

2. The Steelers Win

Despite Vegas Odds having the Packers with a two-point advantage, the Aaron Rodgers’ led Packers' offense will be no match for the NFL’s No. 1 Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense. Pittsburgh will win their seventh title. Steelers’ fans will have another title to brag about.

1. Big Ben Wins MVP

As he’s prone to, Big Ben will come away with a big play—whether it’s a great pass or run. And he’ll be rewarded for his effort by being voted MVP of the game.

Then, his previous transgressions will all be forgiven and forgotten. Everyone will laud him for persevering through a tough year to win his third ring.
