Carson Palmer Wants a Trade Or He'll Retire: 7 Potential Landing Spots

Nathan LoweryJun 7, 2018

Carson Palmer has asked the Cincinnati Bengals for a trade or he will retire.

The 8 year veteran from USC was the first overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Palmer won the Heisman Trophy in 2002 for the Trojans.

In his 8 years with the Bengals, Palmer has passed for 22,694 yards, 154 TDs to 100 Interceptions with a QB rating of 86.9.

Palmer was not available for a comment but stated that he is financially stable and is willing to retire.

Palmer can still play the game and should be given a chance by the following teams.

Seattle Seahawks

Caroll was Palmer's head coach at USC the year that he won the Heisman. Many attribute Palmer's Heisman victory was because of the coaching of Caroll.

The Seahawks will have a hole at the quarterback position if Matt Hasselbeck is not resinged. Charlie Whitehurst clinched the playoffs for the Seahawks by beating the Rams to win the NFC West with a 7-9 record. Either way, Whitehurst is not a franchise quarterback.

Palmer would be a great fit in Seattle with the offense that Pete Caroll runs, Pete Caroll himself, and all the weapons Seattle has.

Seattle receives: Carson Palmer

Cincinnati receives: 2012 3rd round draft pick, Justin Forsett.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers also have a huge hole at quarterback. Alex Smith and Troy Smith took a team that was expected to win the NFC West, down to a 5 win season.

Harbaugh is bringing in a West-Coast offense, that fits Palmers skill set. Palmer would give Harbaugh, his Andrew Luck, both are mobile and have great arms.

With Gore, Crabtree, and Davis, the 49ers have the weapons that will give Palmer a huge chance to succeed.

San Francisco receives: Carson Palmer, 2011 NFL 5th round pick.

Cincinnati receives:  2011 3rd round pick, Josh Morgan, 2012 3rd round pick.

Fun fact as well, if the 49ers do get Palmer, and retain Alex Smith and David Carr, then the Niners would have 3 first overall picks on their roster, all at the same position.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins were ranked as a team that could go to the Super Bowl by NFL.com/ Oh wait, that was in the preseason before we saw how bad Henne really is.

The poor play at quarterback by Henne, and the injury to Chad Pennington made the Dolphins, along with the Cowboys and Niners, the most disappointing teams in the league.

Palmer would fit in Brian Daboll's heavy run system, and would help him by not throwing as much, something that caused him problems with the Bengals. With Palmer, the Dolphins could in-fact make the Super Bowl.

Miami receives: Carson Palmer, 2012 4th round pick.

Cincinnati receives: Chad Henne, 2011 3rd round pick,  2012 4th round pick.

The Redskins thought they had fixed all of their problems with the addition of Donovan McNabb. Oh how they were wrong.

McNabb had a poor season and did not fit in Washington. Yes he signed a long term deal, but a clause on that deal can terminate it without losing the Redskins any money. With McNabb being benched for the last 3 games of the season, it is unlikely that the Redskins will keep him, and will most likely keep the deal, or do a sign and trade.

Palmer fits in with Mike Shanahan's offensive system and could actually work out for the Redskins.

Washington receives: Carson Palmer, 2011 3rd round pick, 2012 2nd round pick, 2012

Cincinnati receives: Donovan McNabb, Albert Haynesworth, 2011 4th round pick.

Arizona Cardinals

With Kurt Warner's retirement, the Cardinals could not get anything rolling on the offense with no quarterback.

The Cardinals have all the weapons to succeed, all the weapons except for a quarterback. Palmer would fix that.

Palmer and Ken Whisenhunt's former quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger have many similarities. Both are mobile and a good arm.

Arizona receives: Carson Palmer, 2011 5th round pick.

Cincinnati receives: 2011 2nd round pick, Early Doucet*, 2012 5th round pick

* Doucet can be trade because he is a restricted free agent.

Minnesota Vikings

Favre is gone and the Vikings yet again have no quarterback. Joe Webb played well, but is not an NFL quarterback that can start the whole season. Tarvaris Jackson is not the answer as well.

Leslie Frazier wants a pocket passer playing for the Vikings next year. Guess what, Palmer is a pocket passer.

With Adrian Peterson, Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Visanthe Shiancoe, the Vikes have all the weapons to get Palmer to succeed.

Minnesota receives: Carson Palmer, 2011 4th round pick.

Cincinnati receives: 2011 2nd round pick, Greg Camarillo.

Carolina Panthers

Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen did not pan out like we expected them to in 2010. Both played poorly, with Moore missing most of the season.

Rivera is going to want to spend the draft rebuilding the defense, so getting a quarterback like Palmer via trade would be huge for the Panthers.

Carolina receives: Carson Palmer, 2011 1st round pick, 2011 3rd round pick.

Cincinnati receives: DeAngelo Williams, Jimmy Clausen, 2011 1st round pick, 2011 4th round pick.
