NHL Power Rankings: Canucks Slide, Devils Win and Ducks Hold Serve
Nobody is impervious to a losing streak. The 'Nucks have found that out the hard way recently.
Corey Crawford has been solid in net for Chicago. He may have established himself as the go-to net-minder for the Hawks.
Marian Gaborik tallied a hat trick against Toronto and added another in a 7-0 victory.
However, his poor defense has landed him in the doghouse.
Alex Ovechkin did not want to be left out. He also netted a hat trick against the Leafs.
Peter Forsberg tried out for the Avalanche. Don't accept his text messages because he's doing a great Brett Favre impersonation.
Dallas continues to play well in the Pacific. They're proving their doubters wrong and starting to generate interest in the city.
Brent Burns recorded the first Gordie Howe hat trick in Wild history. The way he's playing, he could net a natural one in the near future.
The Devils have won six of seven, but their recent effort can easily be labeled as too little too late.
After a hot start, the Thrashers have cooled off. They may have lost any momentum gained in the first half of the season.
Using masterful defense, the Cats appeared to be climbing in the East, but a recent four-game losing streak makes a playoff appearance unlikely.
30. Edmonton Oilers
1 of 30
Last week: 30
Record: 14-25-8 (36 pts)
The Oilers are among the league's five worst teams in offense (fourth worst in NHL), defense (worst), power play (second worst) and penalty kill (worst).
They've only won one game, against the slumping Sharks, in January and make the Devils look solid in comparison.
29. Ottawa Senators
2 of 30
Last week: 27
Record: 17-25-7 (41 pts)
The Senators have dropped five straight.
They have only one win, over the lowly Islanders, in January.

3 of 30
Last week: 25

The Blues continue to slide.
Two wins over Los Angeles were encouraging.
Taking Detroit to OT was impressive.
Unfortunately, losing 5-2 to Columbus overshadows all of that.
27. Columbus Blue Jackets
4 of 30
Last week: 26
Record: 23-20-5
The Jackets had wins over Florida and St. Louis on their recent road trip.
However, they have been less than impressive in January and show no serious signs of life going forward.
26. Toronto Maple Leafs
5 of 30
Last week: 22
Record: 19-23-5 (48 pts)
The Leafs have not capitalized on their fast start.
After winning five of six to start the year off, the Leafs have won only one of their last five contests.
In that span, they were outscored 20-8, and two players performed hat tricks on them.
25. Atlanta Thrashers
6 of 30
Last week: 20
Record: 23-19-9 (55 pts)
After starting the first half of the season well, Atlanta has cooled off.
Although they have the eighth-best offense and seventh-best power play, this team is being torched on a nightly basis.
24. Florida Panthers
7 of 30
Last week: 16
Record: 21-21-5 (47 pts)
The Cats remain in the Southeast cellar.
However, the ninth-best defense and the fifth-best penalty kill indicate this team may be on the rise.
A recent four-game losing streak is going to make a comeback tough, though...
23. New York Islanders
8 of 30
Last week: 28
Record: 15-25-7 (37 pts)
The Islanders have been playing better on special teams, but still are scraping by at the bottom of the league.
22. Los Angeles Kings

The Kings are too talented to be sitting at the bottom of the Pacific.
They have two home games before going on a massive road trip.
LA only has four home games in February.
21. New Jersey Devils
10 of 30
Last week: 29
Record: 16-29-3 (38 pts)

20. Buffalo Sabres
11 of 30
Last week: 23
Record: 22-21-5 (49 pts)
Wins over Montreal and Boston were impressive.
Splitting a home-and-home with the Islanders hurts though...
19. Colorado Avalanche
12 of 30
Last week: 18
Record: 24-18-6 (54 pts)
Peter Forsberg practices with the Avalanche.
He's slowly becoming the Brett Favre of the NHL.
It's doubtful he can help this team defensively and probably will not improve their fourth-ranked offense or eighth-ranked power play.
18. Calgary Flames
13 of 30
Last week: 21
Record: 22-21-6 (50 pts)
Calgary is all over the place.
They took Montreal to overtime, crushed Dallas 7-4 and beat Vancouver in a shootout.
However, they lost 6-0 to Minnesota in the Saddledome.
17. Carolina Hurricanes

16. Phoenix Coyotes
15 of 30
Last week: 9
Record: 24-16-9 (57 pts)
The Desert Dogs have dropped three division games in their most recent four-game losing streak.
Looks like this team may be cooling off after a scorching start to the new year.
15. Minnesota Wild
16 of 30
Last week: 19
Record: 24-19-5 (53 pts)
The Wild have a solid power play (sixth in NHL) and a competent defense and penalty kill.
However, they are not going to take significant strides until they can score at even strength.
They've played well recently, winning three straight before losing to San Jose on Saturday.
14. San Jose Sharks
17 of 30
Last week: 24
Record: 25-19-5 (55 pts)

18 of 30

Record: 28-19-3 (59 pts)

19 of 30
Last week: 14
Record: 27-17-5 (59 pts)
The Canadiens are looking better but have lost to Buffalo and Anaheim in extra time recently.
A matchup with Philly on Versus could be a statement game for this team.
11. Anaheim Ducks
20 of 30
Last week: 13
Record: 27-20-4 (58 pts)
The Ducks have ascended to second place in the Pacific due to their red-hot power play (second in NHL).
They've won three of four but lost to Toronto 5-2 during that stretch.
10. Washington Capitals
21 of 30
Last week: 8
Record: 27-14-8 (62 pts)
The Caps have lost their offensive touch but are making up for it with improved defense (seventh in NHL).
Their second-ranked penalty kill is operating at 85.8 percent efficiency.
Washington travels to New York for a national game against the Rangers on Monday.
9. Chicago Blackhawks
22 of 30
Last week: 10
Record: 26-19-4 (56 pts)
Corey Crawford has been solid in net for Chicago, and the Hawks have the league's best power play and a fifth-ranked defense.
However, their penalty kill is putrid, and they followed an impressive win in Detroit (4-1) up with a loss against Philly (1-4).
8. Nashville Predators
23 of 30
Last week: 11
Record: 27-15-6 (60 pts)
The Preds are playing stingy defense (third in NHL) and are ungenerous on the penalty kill (sixth) but could use a little offensive power.
However, on their recent road trip, which concludes at the end of the month, the Preds have outscored their opponents 16-11.

26 of 30
Last week: 2
Record: 29-13-6 (64 pts)
The Red Wings are slipping a bit.
They still have the league's second-best offense and fifth-ranked power play, but need to play better defense.
They were routed by Chicago in the Joe and could have trouble against the red-hot Devils.

27 of 30
Last week: 6
Record: 27-14-7 (61 pts)
The Bruins are playing solid hockey.
They have the sixth-best offense, best defense and fourth-best penalty kill in the league.
As a result, they have won three of their last four games.
3. Vancouver Canucks
28 of 30
Last week: 1
Record: 29-10-9 (67 pts)

2. Pittsburgh Penguins
29 of 30
Last week: 4
Record: 30-15-4 (64 pts)
The Pens are playing well in all aspects of the game.
With a solid defense (second in NHL) and penalty kill (first), this team's seventh-ranked offense can open up and light the lamp against the league's best.
1. Philadelphia Flyers
30 of 30
Last week: 3
Record: 32-12-5 (69 pts)
A loss to New Jersey is a visible blemish.
However, the Flyers made up for it by topping Chicago on Sunday.
Their offense is clicking, but Philly needs to focus on other aspects of their game to remain ahead of Pittsburgh in the Atlantic.
On Tuesday, they get Montreal on national television.
