2011 NFL Trade Rumors: 10 Teams With Trade Chips to Land Kevin Kolb
The Philadelphia Eagles entered last season with quarterback Kevin Kolb as their "Plan A" to be the replacement for Donovan McNabb. Now, after an outstanding season by former backup, now starter Michael Vick, the Eagles have a decision to make. And that decision will most likely be to keep Vick in a Eagles uniform and find a suitable team to ship Kolb to.
Kolb has showed that he is capable of being a starting quarterback in the NFL. He put up solid numbers when he was called upon to backup McNabb, and might have been a playoff quarterback last season, had it not been for a head injury and the emergence of Vick.
So now with Kolb ready to hit the road, the question is, what team will be able to work out a suitable deal with Philadelphia?
Let's take a look at 10 teams that are in need of a quarterback and might have the appropriate trade chips to land Kevin Kolb.
10. Carolina Panthers
1 of 10
The Panthers are in need of a quarterback. Jimmy Clausen had an awful rookie season, and does not look like the franchise quarterback that perhaps Carolina had hoped he would be.
With that said, the Panthers will likely look to trade for a quarterback. They have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, but after Stanford's Andrew Luck withdrew his name from the draft, the idea of the Panthers drafting a quarterback with the No. 1 pick kind of went away.
Carolina would be a nice fit for Kolb, the only reason they are not higher up on the list is because unlike many other teams in need of a quarterback, the Panthers do not have any draft picks that they could throw at Philadelphia to seal a deal. They will not trade the No. 1 pick in the draft, and after that, the Panthers don't have a second round selection.
Carolina's best chance at landing Kolb is to trade a starter from their current roster along with a later round draft pick. Even that might be a stretch.
9. Washington Redskins

Washington is probably one of the teams that the Eagles would most likely want to do a deal with, but also one of the teams that might not want to do a deal in return.
The reasoning here is, Washington has the No. 10 pick in the NFL draft, which might be a little too high of a draft pick to give away for Kolb. They do not pick again until pick No. 41, which might not be enough to land Kolb.
Either way, the Eagles might try to lure the Redskins to bring in another former Philadelphia quarterback. Could you imagine if after they basically kicked Donovan McNabb out of Washington, they then brought in McNabb's former backup to be their new starting quarterback?
Unless Al Davis is running this team, that might be a little too crazy to be realistic. But, you never know.
8. Seattle Seahawks
3 of 10
The Seahawks came on the record and said that it is their No. 1 priority this off season to resign quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. But numerous reports said that this year would be Hasselbeck's final season in Seattle. So why go for Kolb?
Even if the Seahawks do sign Hasselbeck, it will likely be to a one year contract and then he will go on to retire or play somewhere else. Seattle is an interesting landing spot for Kolb because the Seahawks currently posses the No. 25 pick in this year's draft. That is the type of pick that could be traded straight up for Kolb and both teams could come away feeling like they made a fair deal.
A lot of experts believe that the Eagles might have to settle for a second round pick for Kolb, but if they could somehow make this deal and sneak a late first round selection out of the deal, that would be an exceptional trade for the Eagles.
7. Miami Dolphins
4 of 10
The Miami Dolphins have made it all but clear that they need to find a franchise quarterback to lead their team in the future.
Chad Henne has been alright at best during his time with the Dolphins. Bringing in a guy like Kolb would give the Dolphins a more explosive quarterback who is better suited for taking shots down field to big-play receiver Brandon Marshall.
So the question is, who can they trade for him?
The Dolphins have the No. 15 pick in the draft. That would be an ideal trade for the Eagles, but the Dolphins might feel like they are giving too high of a pick away here. But, it very well could happen that Miami takes a look at its options and sees what they need might not be available with that pick.
6. Tennessee Titans
5 of 10
Here is where we start to get to the most likely destinations where Kolb could end up.
The Vince Young era is finished in Tennessee, and Kerry Collins is getting up there in age. In other words, the Titans are very much so in the market for a quarterback.
Tennessee could try and create a package type deal around their second-round pick, which is No. 38 overall. If they throw in the right pieces this deal could happen, but Andy Reid might be looking for a higher pick in return for Kolb.
Would the Titans actually to consider adding their No. 8 overall pick to this deal? It's unlikely, but there always is a slight possibility.
5. Arizona Cardinals
6 of 10
There might not be a team in the NFL more desperate to land a quarterback than the Arizona Cardinals.
Arizona was forced to go with the likes of Derek Anderson, John Skelton and Max Hall at the quarterback position last season. So what do the Cardinals need to do to land Kolb and make him their new franchise signal caller?
First off, they need to make a decision of if they want to try to land a guy like Kolb through a trade, or draft their franchise quarterback with the No. 5 pick in the draft. It is highly unlikely that the Cardinals will trade that pick, especially if they have a quarterback they are eyeing, perhaps Blaine Gabbert, Cam Newton or Ryan Mallet.
But if the Cardinals want to go another rout in the first round and make a run at Kolb, they could pair the No. 38 pick with another pick or two in middle or later rounds. This would be similar to the deal that landed Donovan McNabb to the Redskins.
The Cardinals are in desperate need of a new quarterback, and they will get one this year. The question is just whether it will come from the draft or through a trade.
4. Cleveland Browns
7 of 10
The Browns have found their future quarterback in Colt McCoy, but this year might have been a little too soon to throw their young gun into the fire.
The Browns have a new coach now who will team up with Mike Holmgren to make some crucial decisions about what direction this team is going to take, specifically at the quarterback position. If they do decide to make a run at Kolb, the Browns have the fifth pick of the second round (No. 37), which would be used if these teams were to make a deal.
If the Browns are able to add Kolb and team him with a top-notch receiver with their first round draft pick, someone like A.J. Green or Julio Jones, the Browns would have the making of a nice looking offense heading into 2011.
3. Buffalo Bills
8 of 10
The Bills struggled this season on both ends of the ball and need to address the quarterback position sooner than later.
Ryan Fitzpatrick did show signs of being a good quarterback, but the Bills need to begin to plan for their future, and that likely does not involve the former Harvard graduate.
The No. 1 thing that makes the Bills so high on this list is that they have great trade bait with the second pick in the second round (No. 34). Getting that pick in exchange for Kolb would be a good deal for both teams and would allow the Eagles to select two potential starters in this year's draft.
2. Minnesota Vikings
9 of 10
Brett Favre is gone. Or so we hope. That means that the Vikings are in need of a quarterback because they have made it more then obvious that they do not have confidence in Tavaris Jackson or Joe Webb.
The Vikings have the No. 43 pick in the draft, which might be a little low for Philadelphia's liking. But they could add some pieces to that trade and make it work out nicely.
The Randy Moss trade hurt the Vikings ability to make an off-season deal because they sent their third-round pick to New England in return for the troubled wide out. Depending on what the Vikings with their first round pick in the draft, they may consider parting with their No. 12 overall pick for Kolb. Either way, it is obvious that this team needs to address the quarterback position if they want to get back to being a contender.
1. San Francisco 49ers
10 of 10
The 49ers are one piece away from being the top team in the NFC West. That missing piece: A franchise quarterback.
A potential trade that has been talked about is the 49ers trading their No. 7 overall pick and a middle round pick in next years draft to Philadelphia in return for Kolb and the Eagles 2011 second-round pick. While that would be giving up a lot for Kolb, the Eagles are not going to do a deal unless a first round or high second round pick is involved.
If the 49ers see their guy is there in the draft, then they will go that direction. But all signs point to the 49ers being the team that is most interested in acquiring Kolb and they also have the most to give up in return. This could be a perfect match.
