NFL Championship Week: Can't Wait!

What an eye-opening weekend this was. The Bears and Packers truly dominated their opponents, and the Steelers and Jets were able to hold on in some close, tough games.

I was surprised with the outcome of the Jets/Pats, I really thought the Patriots would hold off a very talented Jets team. I was wrong. Here is a look at this weekends Championship games.  

NFC Championship:

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears 

This is one of the great rivalries in all of sports. To me, nothing says “football” like the Bears vs. Packers. You automatically get transported back to leather helmets and no facemasks and guys named Buck, Hank, Max and Bart.

Not only that, the weather is supposed to be very chilly in Chicago at game time. Perfect. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is probably the hottest QB in the league over the last few weeks. He was lights out in the win over the Falcons. The Packers D continues to look great against any kind of team they face. They were able to shut down the Falcons run game and keep Matt Ryan on his toes.

Jay Cutler and the Bears dominated Seattle on both sides of the ball and were able to keep their home field advantage. This game will be epic. The teams split the regular season matchups in close games, Chicago won the first game 20-17 and Green Bay got into the playoffs with a 10-3 defensive battle. Chicago leads the all time series 92–83–6, but my gut tells me the Packers make it to win No. 84.

AFC Championship:

New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers 

I will be honest. I want a NFC team to win the Super Bowl. I am not one of those SEC crazies that goes for conference over individual team, but I just really don’t want to see one of these teams win a Super Bowl, IN the house that Jerry built (rant over).

Needless to say, this game promises to be a good one. In the regular season showdown, the Jets’ offense was not that impressive, getting just one touchdown on a Mark Sanchez run. The key was the HUGE return by Brad Smith to open the game. The Jets hope to have more special teams fireworks this weekend, because the Steelers D will most likely keep them out of the end zone.

While Mark Sanchez has a good record in playoff starts, he is the most likely out these two quarterbacks to have a monumental breakdown. The Steelers continue to feature a stellar defense and a playmaking offense that can keep drives going. Whether it's Roethlisberger making plays with his feet or Mike Wallace stretching the field with his speed, the Steelers are a good offensive team. After Pittsburgh’s hard-hitting game against the Ravens, they get more of the same against a very good Jets defense. Look for another low scoring, hard hitting game.
