2011 NFL Draft: 15 Players Who Could Be Draft Day Bait
Each year we see players on the move but this year, we could see more veterans moved on draft than ever before.
There is plenty of aging talent out there to be had as most play for teams going in the wrong direction.
Which players could be attractive trade pieces during April’s draft?
Here are 15 potential targets for teams on the brink of winning a Super Bowl Championship.
15. Clinton Portis, Washington Redskins RB
1 of 15
The veteran running back has run his course in Washington. He had a great career but Washington needs to move on. If Portis can remain healthy for a season, he could be of service to a team on the brink of winning, similar to LaDainian Tomlinson and the New York Jets. Portis would come cheap so it could be a worthwhile gamble for a team.
14. Brandon Jacobs, New York Giants RB
2 of 15
Perhaps just a dream of mine as Giants fan as Jacobs is just not as good as he should be. Perhaps a team like Detroit, Chicago or Green Bay would be interested in acquiring the goal line bruiser to compliment their starters. Doubtful though considering his unjust contract.
13. Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints RB
3 of 15
Reggie Bush would like to re-structure his contract in order to stay in New Orleans. That is, if New Orleans wants to keep Bush who is showing that he is injury-prone. He has also proven that he is not the superstar many thought he would be coming out of USC. Bush can still be a threat in the league, but the Saints may decide to move on at this point.
12. Donovan McNabb, Washington Redskins QB
4 of 15
The McNabb experiment in Washington did not go as smoothly as planned.
A team like the Minnesota Vikings could opt to improve its defense in the first round while acquire the veteran quarterback to lead them back to the NFC Championship. The Vikings have a Championship caliber team, they just need a quality quarterback. They may feel McNabb still has something left in the tank.
11. Albert Haynesworth, Washington Redskins DT
5 of 15
Does this really need any introduction?
The Haynesworth experiment has been as big a failure as any in sports history. He was suspended for the last month of the season and barely played throughout the year.
The Redskins should have traded him prior to the deadline so he should definitely be moved during the offseason or on draft day. Tennessee is probably still interested.
10. Kyle Orton, Denver Broncos QB
6 of 15
It is unknown right now whether or not new head coach John Fox will decide to start Tim Tebow, but he truly is the future in Denver even if they don’t know it yet.
Kyle Orton displayed excellent poise and accuracy this season, far better than most ever expected. For a good stretch in the beginning of the season, he was one of the most effective passers in the league despite throwing a ton of passes each game.
Orton would be a fantastic backup for any team but could also push others for a starting gig on teams like Seattle, Miami, Carolina, Washington, Tennessee and Minnesota.
9. Vince Wilfork, New England Patriots DT
7 of 15
Oh, just the usual from Bill Belichick. Trade away a veteran before it’s too late to some poor team for draft picks.
This seems to happen every year, no?
8. Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals QB
8 of 15
Palmer has failed to live up to his hype in Cincinnati due to various injuries.
For all we know, Cincinnati is gearing up for a complete overhaul on offense.
The Bengals could be looking to draft one of the top quarterbacks and could ship Palmer off as they start over.
7. Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts WR
9 of 15
Reggie Wayne was disgruntled after last year because of his contract.
Once again, Wayne is disgruntled after his lack of involvement in the AFC Wild Card loss to the New York Jets.
Wayne most likely won’t be moved, but at this point, it wouldn’t shock me with one-year left on his contract.
6. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers WR
10 of 15
Steve Smith deserves better than the dreadful quarterback situation in Carolina.
Who knows if Ron Rivera will decide to start Jimmy Clausen or draft a rookie of his own.
The Panthers won’t be much better on offense unless they can acquire a quality veteran.
For his sake, I hope Carolina trades him to a winning team because he deserves another chance at a Championship.
5. Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers WR
11 of 15
Jackson sat out most of the year as he couldn’t find a trade partner or come to terms on an acceptable deal.
Perhaps now V-Jax realizes his demands were too outlandish and will come back down to Earth. Either that or San Diego will be fed up with him and ship him away. Regardless, V-Jax is going to be a popular topic of trade rumors this offseason, just like last year.
4. Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati Bengals WR
12 of 15
The Bengals are going nowhere. The Bengals picked up Ochocinco’s option, but his days are waning. If the Bengals can get something in return for their charismatic superstar, they may have to take the deal for the better sake of the team.
3. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals WR
13 of 15
Fitz’ name has already been thrown around as a potential trade target. Why the Cardinals would ever trade one of the all-time greatest wide receivers in his prime is beyond me, but it’s not out of the question after they just traded away Anquan Boldin last year.
Fitz could decide that he wants to play for a contender.
Imagine Larry Fitzgerald working with Tom Brady or Jay Cutler…
2. Kevin Kolb, Philadelphia Eagles QB
14 of 15
If Vick stays, Kolb wants out. Kolb is one of the brighter young quarterbacks according to most teams and at least has some experience in the league. A team like Seattle, Miami or Buffalo could be interested in acquiring Kolb and his potential.
1. Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles QB
15 of 15
Is it really a gaurantee that Andy Reid will choose Vick over Kevin Kolb? Vick was incredible this season and his stock is at an all-time high. If Reid still feels Kolb has what it takes like he thought one year ago, we could see Vick go for a lot this offseason.
