GM Paul Holmgren and Philadelphia Flyers Sign Contract Extension
The Philadelphia Flyers just handed out the most deserved contract extension in recent memory.
The Flyers and general manager Paul Holmgren agreed to a three-year contract extension on Tuesday. According to the Delaware County Daily Times, it is worth approximately $4.5 million.
"I'm particularly proud of the job Paul Holmgren has done with our hockey club and excited to offer him this three-year extension," said Ed Snider, Flyers owner and chairman. "He continuously finds the right opportunities to improve our team and gets us closer to our ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup."

Homer deserves this extension—not only because of the team’s playoff success, but also because of the quick turnaround he brought to the organization.
When Snider fired longtime GM Bobby Clarke, Holmgren acquired the worst team in the league. He then brought the team into the “new” NHL.
Philadelphia was Homer’s first GM job, so the uncertainty around the hiring was evident.
It didn’t take long to quell the chatter as Holmgren started building his team.
Holmgren has signed star free agents such as Danny Briere, Kimmo Timonen, Sean O’Donnell, Nikolay Zherdev and Scott Hartnell and made trades for Chris Pronger, Andrej Meszaros and Braydon Coburn. Not to mention his influence when under Bobby Clarke with the drafting of the young core of the team.
Paul Holmgren knows hockey, and the Flyers know good people.
It’s a perfect fit.
