Top 15 NFL Head Coaches To Never Win a Super Bowl

Brian DiTullioJun 7, 2018

Every head coach wants to hoist that Lombardi Trophy at least once in their career. Some coaches never will even sniff a Super Bowl, though, while others have been to the big game but came up just short.

Some of these coaches may surprise you, and others are famous because they haven't won a Super Bowl yet.

It's tough to win a Super Bowl. Not only does your team have to have talent, but a lot of things have to go right. Your team can't be devoured by the injury bug, and there's a little luck involved.

All of the coaches on this list coached at least four years in the Super Bowl era, so even though George Halas coached until 1967, that's just not enough to qualify him for this list. All things considered, had he coached further into the Super Bowl era, he probably would've won a few.

Enough chatter, let's get to the list.

15. Sam Wyche

Sam Wyche made it to a Super Bowl. Then he ran into Joe Montana on one of his finest days.

Wyche never made it back but he's remembered fondly in Cincinnati.

ENGLEWOOD, CO - JANUARY 14: Denver Broncos head coach John Fox addresses the media at Dove Valley on January 14, 2011 in Englewood, Colorado. Fox was named the 14th head coach in Broncos history yesterday after spending the last nine seasons as head coac

John Fox came just short in Super Bowl XXXVIII, losing to the New England Patriots 32-29 on a last-minute Adam Vinatieri kick.

Fox has an overall 73-71 record, but 14 of those losses came this season on a team that had been stripped to the bone by an owner deciding to go cheap.

Fox has a fresh start in Denver, and he'll get at least one more shot to get that Super Bowl.

11. Jim Mora Sr.

The Architecht of the "Air Coryell" offense, Don Coryell finished his coaching career with a 111-83 record. But his defenses never were that great, and his playoff record was awful.

Coryell was 3-6 during his careerย in the playoffs and never made it to a Super Bowl.

George Allen made it to the Super Bowl in the 1972 season, but couldn't pull out the victory.

Andy Reid has 118 wins and 73 losses in his 12-year coaching career. He's only been to the Super Bowl once, and had to watch Donovan McNabb break down in the second half as the Patriots added another ring to their jewelry collection.

Reid gets criticized for his clock management skills, but his consistent winning during the regular season never has translated to the postseason.

With Michael Vick, it was thought Reid might be able to finally get his Super Bowl this year, but the Eagles were bounced in the Wild Card round.

Jeff Fisher's Super Bowl team literally came one yard short of winning a Super Bowl against the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV.

The Titans have been very consistent under Fisher, but they have had some rough seasons.

Overall, Fisher has a 142-120 record in the regular season. He is 5-6 in the playoffs.
