NHL 2010-11: Are The Boston Bruins a Real Stanley Cup Contender?

The Boston Bruins make you feel like they are the best team in the NHL sometimes, but then they have long stretches where they find scoring goals incredibly difficult.

They have tremendous goaltending, with Tuukka Rask and 2009 Vezina Trophy award winner Tim Thomas, and a great group of defenseman.

The Bruins' problem is they are so inconsistent on offense, but they have a lot of talented offensive players. 

Marc Savard and David Krejci are very good passers, and center Patrice Bergeron is among the best face off winners in the league, and is the Bruins best all-around player.

One possible explanation for the Bruins' lack of scoring could be Head Coach Claude Julien's defensive minded coaching style.

Julien has been known as a passive, defensive coach, who does not allow offensively minded players to blossom to their full potential.

No.2 overall draft selection Tyler Seguin  has played well this year, but many fans believe Julien's style of play is hurting his growth.

Seguin is one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and is a highly skilled player, but he does not get the ice time he needs to be able to improve to the point where he can be a major factor this season.

The Bruins also are very unemotional during lengthy periods of time, and Julien has been unable to light a fire under his team.

The Bruins have a lot of physical players, such as Milan Lucic, and captain and tallest NHL player ever Zdeno Chara, but they do not play with the passion of a Stanley Cup championship team.

The Bruins need to make a change at coach, because they have the talent to win the Cup, but not the system to get the most of their players.
