Eagles: Five Guys That Can Replace Sean McDermott As Defensive Coordinator
Sean McDermott's defensive play calling and in game adjustments were ultimately his downfall as the Eagles defensive coordinator.
Most Eagle fans are not shocked at this firing and most probably support the move. I know at least I do.
While McDermott had to deal with injuries on the defensive front, the great ones can overcome them, which McDermott obviously could not do.
The Eagles will stick with a 4-3 defensive scheme, so now it is on Andy Reid to find a legitimate defensive coordinator that can make a difference on this team.
So here are 5 candidates who can take over at defensive coordinator for McDermott.
UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen have reported the Eagles have talked to Jim Mora Jr. and former Cardinals DC Billy Davis.
Dick Jauron

Dick Jauron went from head coach to secondary coach, talk about a huge demotion!
Jauron though did well with what he had in the secondary, considering his starting right cornerback was a special teams player.
Jauron is the most likely candidate to replace McDermott because of his experience at defensive coordinator.
He could do a lot more than what McDermott did, considering he seems knowledgeable of the game and players.
He is currently wanted by the Cleveland Browns to be their defensive coordinator, but I'm sure he would stick with the Eagles, if Andy Reid offered him a promotion.
Mike Singletary

Mike Singletary always seems to be screaming at someone.
Singletary is another popular name out there, even though I would like to see him as our linebackers coach rather than defensive coordinator.

Singletary has no experience at defensive coordinator, but was a great linebackers coach with the 49ers, molding Patrick Willis into an All Pro and the Ravens.
Unlike McDermott, Singletary can relate to the players and motivate them to play to their absolute fullest.
I expect Singletary to be an aggressive defensive coordinator, kind of like Jim Johnson. He certainly has the fire and passion to motivate and hopefully mold this defense into elite.
Dave Wannstedt

Dave Wannstedt is known as a defensive mastermind throughout all of football.
His first NFL job was as defensive coordinator in 1989 for the Dallas Cowboys under Jimmy Johnson.
That defense was considered one of the best in NFL history, so Wannstedt knows how to game plan and attack opposing offenses.
He did a fine job at Pittsburgh, before resigning, and could stay in the Pennsylvania area to become the Eagles defensive coordinator.
He could certainly make a difference to a young but upcoming group of players, since Wannstedt did the same with the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Wannstedt is wanted by a few teams, so I hope he decides to stick in the PA area to become the Eagles new defensive coordinator.
Winston Moss

Not many people know the up and coming Winston Moss.
Moss is currently the inside linebackers coach for the Green Bay Packers and is also the assistant head coach.
He is young and has experience with both the 4-3 and 3-4 defense, and even though this could be a risk, it's a risk the Eagles may never regret.
Moss has never been a defensive coordinator in his career.
Herm Edwards
5 of 5
Is it just me or does Herm Edwards always look lost.
Anyways, Edwards played with the Eagles as a defensive back and is known for his defensive mind all throughout football.
Though he turned down jobs to become the defensive coordinator, the Eagles would certainly be enticing for Edwards.
He could come in and work with a young group of players and hopefully make some sort of difference to this defense.
He also would be an aggressive defensive coordinator, something Andy Reid likes to see out of his assistants.
