NFL Rumors: Could Free Agent Randy Moss Return to Form With Pittsburgh Steelers?

Patrick ClarkeJan 13, 2011

It was a tumultuous 2010 for free agent wide receiver Randy Moss.

His production with the New England Patriots over the past few seasons left a lot to be desired by both the Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans (even though Tennessee claimed him off waivers).

Moss had a record-breaking season in 2007 with the Patriots, catching 23 of Brady's 50 touchdown passes. He also caught a touchdown to give the Patriots a 14-10 lead in Super Bowl XLII.

The way Moss left New England is still dumbfounding to this day.

Moss' relationship with the local media took a downward spiral and his interest level certainly took a hit.

His short time in Minnesota this season seemed very un-Moss like based on what we had been accustomed to seeing in New England.

Rock bottom for the "play when I want to" wide receiver came when he was released from the Vikings after an off-field incident with the team.

Moss was jobless until finally being claimed off waivers by the Tennessee Titans, the only team that took a chance on him.

Things in Nashville haven't really worked out, and now Moss finds himself as a free agent this offseason.

The question is, has he already ruined his chances by mucking up his on-field production with his off-field shenanigans?

Surely, some team will make a pass at Moss, but it would have to be an established team that wins constantly and has a strong locker room.

A team like New England.

Obviously, that doesn't seem plausible based on the way Moss left the Northeast.

The only other team that comes to mind is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Can you imagine Moss catching jump balls from Ben Roethlisberger or giving up on routes, only to realize that the play is still alive?

Certainly crazier things have happened, and the Steelers are running low on game-changing wideouts.

Santonio Holmes is gone to New York, and Hines Ward has battled injuries all year long.

The combination of Randy Moss and Mike Wallace would be intriguing, if nothing else.

Clearly Moss doesn't strike fear into opposing defenses like he did in the past, but he was a difference maker just a few months ago with the Patriots.

It makes one wonder: What could have been of Moss?

But now we can only speculate as to where the once-feared receiver will make waves next.
