John Fox Odds: Where Will Ex-Carolina Panthers Coach Work Next?

Matt RudnitskyJan 11, 2011

John Fox was fired as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, who are reportedly hiring San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera as his replacement.

But unlike some of the other fired coaches, (Josh McDaniels, Brad Childress, Mike Singletary, etc.) Fox is well-respected around the league and highly likely to at least get a shot at another head coaching job.

And if not, he'll assuredly get a look

So where will John Fox work during the 2011 NFL season?

Oakland Raiders: 200:1

It appears that Offensive Coordinator Hue Jackson is in line for the Raiders head coaching job.

And even if Al Davis looks elsewhere, I don't think Fox would want to work for him.

Houston Texans: 150:1

Wade Philips is the new defensive coordinator, and Gary Kubiak has been retained.

But with another year of failure, Kubiak could get get the ax.  So Fox might at least get an interview in 2011, although I can't see him ending up in Houston.

Cleveland Browns: 100:1

The Browns do have a head coaching vacancy, but I don't like the potential Holmgren-Rob Ryan-Fox dynamic.

Cleveland already has a great defensive mind in Ryan and a control guy in Holmgren, so I don't think Fox is really a fit here.

Jacksonville Jaguars: 30:1

A realistic possibility.

Jack DelRio could be on the outs if he misses out on the playoffs next year—which wouldn't shock anyone—and Fox would be a nice fit here.

Watch out for Fox-to-Jacksonville—next season.

Miami Dolphins: 25:1

Tony Sparano is another coach that could easily be on the outs next year if he doesn't make the playoffs. And with the Patriots and Jets in their division—the Dolphins' playoff chances aren't exactly great.

Look for Fox to potentially be considered by owner Stephen Ross next offseason.

Denver Broncos: 6:1

Fox is reportedly interviewing for the Broncos' head coaching job tomorrow.

He's got a great shot at landing the gig, but there are plenty of other viable candidates.

New York Giants: 5:1

ATLANTA - DECEMBER 27: Head coach Perry Fewell of the Buffalo Bills looks on from the sidelines against the Atlanta Falcons at Georgia Dome on December 27, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is a hot commodity around the NFL and will likely be considered by the Browns and Broncos.

If Fewell goes, Fox—who was a former defensive coordinator for the Giants—would be a strong possibility to replace him.

The biggest problem here is that Fewell needs to get hired somewhere in order for this to happen.

San Diego Chargers: 3:1

Ron Rivera is likely out as San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator—to take Fox's old job—so isn't Fox a too-obvious replacement for Rivera?

Look for Fox to get a shot to return to being a defensive coordinator.

Prediction: Denver Broncos

The Broncos aren't my favorite to land Fox—just because of the numerous candidates being considered—but I think he'll get the job.

Denver undoubtedly won't want someone young and untested after the McDaniels debacle, and Fox is the perfect anti-McDaniels.
