MLB Daily Market Wrap Up

Moving Today's Market

Wednesday night the Angels became the first team to clinch a playoff spot when they defeated the Yankees and the Rangers lost to the Mariners. After celebrating all night, they open a four-game series against last-place Seattle, which many picked to win the division before the season began. The Mariners opened at -112 with Pinnacle and has increased to -117. The line has increased despite 75 percent of the money line bets are on the Angels. This is an excellent indication of Smart Money (professional bettors) behind the Mariners. There are questions on how the Angels lineup will look after clinching the division last night, because at times managers rest most of the regulars the day after clinching. Also Angels pitcher Jered Weaver (10-10, 4.42 ERA) makes his first start after cutting his right middle and ring fingers in a dugout accident on September 2. He hasn't pitched since August 30 when he went five innings against the Rangers, allowing three earned runs.

A crucial four-game series begins tonight as the Phillies host the Brewers. The Phillies are looking to gain ground in the NL Wild Card race. Ben Sheets (13-7, 2.82 ERA) and the Brewers opened at -113 with Pinnacle, but has since move to a near an even bet. The majority of the money is on the Phillies as the line decreases, but there has been slightly over 50 percent of the bets on Milwaukee. The line increased at Pinnacle a few hours after it opened, but has decreased since that point. Jamie Moyer (13-7, 3.64 ERA) starts for the Phillies and he has been the team's most consistent starter this season. He has held opponents to three runs or fewer in 16 of his last 17 starts.
