2011 NFL Mock Draft: Washington Redskins Edition (All 7 Rounds)

B.J MakJan 6, 2011

Last season the Redskins selected OT Trent Williams with their 4th overall pick in the 2010 draft. He proved to be a worthy pick who was able to get on the field and battle against some of the most feared NFL pass rushers such as Jared Allen, Justin Tuck, Trent Cole, Umenyiora, Mario Williams, Ware, Freeney, Mathis, and Clay Matthews. He showed his athleticism and proved to be a good fit for Shanahan's zone blocking scheme. Coming into this seasons draft the Redskins still have a need for the OL aswell as S, OLB, NT, WR, and QB.

10th Overall Pick: Robert Quinn DE/OLB North Carolina

Personally, I believe that the Redskins need to add a bookend to Orakpo which could eventually create one of the most feared young duos in the NFL. With Andre Carter lost in the 3-4 (and probably traded or released) Washington needs to add an athletic 3-4 OLB. The Skins really didn't bring as much pressure as they hoped and the 6'5 270 athletic beast named Robert Quinn would provide just that. His suspension this season hurt his draft stock which would give the Skins great value for this pick. Although Locker, Mallet and the rest of the top tier QB's should still be on the board they are too big of a stretch especially at the 10th pick. There are no OL or WR that would warrant this pick unless somehow A.J Green somehow slips past the first 9 teams. Overall, Quinn brings speed and a mean pass rush that should help the Skins D put more pressure on the opposing teams QB.

Other Possibilities:

1. Julio Jones- WR

2. Stephen Paea- DT

3. Marcell Dareus- DE

Round 2: 41st Overall Pick: DeAndre McDaniel S Clemson

2 of 10
AUBURN, AL - SEPTEMBER 18: DeAndre McDaniel #2 of the Clemson Tigers against the Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 18, 2010 in Auburn, Alabama. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

After Sean Taylor was killed, the FS position was left in a flux. Reed Doughty, Chris Horton, and Kevin Barnes have been serviceable backups (Kareem Moore has been awful), but nobody has stood there ground and covered well while Landry is at the line of scrimmage. McDaniel a ball hawk would give instant comfort to DeAngelo Hall. Hall likes to try to jump routes which often lets him get burned which gives up a big play. DeAngelo and DeAndre sounds pretty good to me. RIP #21

Other Possibilities

1. Jurrell Powe- NT

2. Bruce Carter- OLB (If Quinn isn't the 10th pick) and Carter is also from UNC

3. Jon Baldwin WR

4. Jurell Casey DT

Didn't pan out perfectly and he still might leave in FA, but better than having Stephen Heyer

With all of the talent still on the board it bothers me that this pick was traded. It also bothers me that Mcnabb had an awful season...Anways here are a couple of possible choices incase Haynesworth or McNabb possibly return something in the offseason

1. Austin Pettis-WR

2. Andy Dalton-QB

3. Caleb Shlauderoff- OG

Round 5: Pick 141 Overall: Ryan Pugh OC Auburn

5 of 10
AUBURN, AL - NOVEMBER 24: Offensive lineman Ryan Pugh #50 of the Auburn Tigers celebrates after picking up a first down with less than a minute to play in the game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Jordan-Hare Stadium on November 24, 2007 in Auburn, Al

Ryan Pugh was a stable OL for the Tigers on their way to the BCS Championship game on Saturday. Casey Rabach played horrendously and needs to be replaced immediately. With Pugh and Williams the Skins will have great youth and Cook and Capers could eventually fill in other spots at G. If the Skins want a franchise Qb they need to protect him and C is the next most important position on the line.

Other Possibilities

1. Ricky Stanzi- QB

2. Darren Evans- RB

3. DeMarco Sampson- WR

Round 5: Pick 155 Overall: Owen Marecic

6 of 10

After watching Stanford a lot this season I was able to notice Owen Marecic. Doesn't have any amazing stats or talent but he has an amazing passion and intelligence for the game. He plays FB and LB for the Cardinal and if Luck weren't in the game the MVP of the Orange Bowl. He plays in about 70% of the game offense and defense and brings a good football mentality that the Skins could use. I hate to use the term but he fits the bill as a "Patriots Player".

Other Possibilities

1. Ian Williams- DT

2. Mike Mohamed- OLB

3. Bilal Powell- RB

* This pick is from the Jammal Brown Trade

Round 6: Pick 172 Overall: Ian Williams NT Notre Dame

7 of 10
SOUTH BEND, IN - SEPTEMBER 04: Ian Williams #95 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish encourages the crowd during a game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Notre Dame Stadium on September 4, 2010 in South Bend, Indiana. Notre Dame defeated Purdue 23-12. (Photo

With Haynesworth as good as gone, the Skins need a big NT to anchor the line and stuff up the middle. Anthony Bryant had a solid first couple games in the "evaluation process" but depth is still a concern for the D-Line. Williams is a behemoth 6'2 305 which should be enough to clog up some holes.

Other Possibilities

1. Tyrod Taylor- QB

2. Roy Helu Jr.- RB

3. James Rodgers- WR

Round 7: Pick 202 Overall: Clint Boling OT Georgia

8 of 10
ATHENS, GA - SEPTEMBER 29: Offensive lineman Clint Boling #60 of the Georgia Bulldogs sets to block against the Mississippi Rebels at Sanford Stadium on September 29, 2007 in Athens, Georgia. (Photo by Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images)

At 6'5 305 Clint Boling isn't that big for an O-lineman of his height. He should be able to provide some depth down the line like Capers and Cooke last season.

Round 7: Compensatory Pick: Matt Bosher Miami K

9 of 10
MIAMI - OCTOBER 25: Place kicker Matt Bosher #25 of the Miami Hurricanes takes a moment before being called on to kick a field goal against the Wake Forest Demon Decons at Dolphin Stadium on October 25, 2008 in Miami, Florida. Miami defeated Wake Forest

Graham Gano has got to go. He had an awful season and i have absolutely no idea why he is still on the team. Bosher has a huge leg and pretty good accuracy. He Punts, Kicks Off, and Kicks field goals which is ideal for the Redskins and their strange game day injuries to specialists.

*This Pick is from the Justin Tryon trade to the Colts

This specific mock if very Defense oriented. I feel that switching to the 3-4 left many gaps in the defense that need to be addressed so that we don't continue to give up so many yards. However, the Redskins D did keep points down but could be better with some better pieces to the puzzle. I believe for the Offense the O-line needs to be fixed before any franchise QB is brought in. Also Shanahan has a knack for finding no-name Rb's either in the draft or not and Torain and Williams are pretty good for the time being (maybe a change of pace RB). As far as WR i believe that FA should be able to take care of that. Snyder is willing to outbid anybody else and I can see Vincent Jackson coming over to play for the coach who always wanted to draft him.
