NFL Free Agency 2011: Top 10 Destinations for Ahmad Bradshaw

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

Ahmad Bradshaw has had an up-and-down career with the New York Giants.

He had 1,235-yards rushing this season, but seven fumbles (six lost) were devastating for the Giants offense.

He has had his share of injuries (feet, wrist, ankles), and his ability to be the full-time starter and log 25 carries a game is highly unlikely.

The Giants gave Brandon Jacobs a new deal despite injury concerns two years ago because of Bradshaw's inability to stay on the field.

But plenty of suitors will be after the free agent.

Bradshaw is only 24 and can still be explosive and elusive. He has logged over 2,500 yards in his career and has a Super Bowl ring to boot.

Let's take a look at 10 potential suitors for Bradshaw.

10. Carolina Panthers

The entire 2010 Panthers team will be subject to change in 2011.

It's almost a guarantee that DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will not be in the backfield together. There's a solid chance both of them will be gone.

Mike Goodson had two 100 yard games for the Panthers this season, but never took full advantage of his opportunities and finished with only 452 yards and three TDs.

The Panthers will need a back, and Bradshaw can provide the stability at the position that Carolina has enjoyed the past five seasons.

9. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts never seem to have enough running backs, and a Joseph Addai/Ahmad Bradshaw combo would do wonders for the Indy offense.

Addai missed half the season in 2010 and only mustered 495 yards and four TDs. Bradshaw would allow Addai to stay fresh throughout the season.

Donald Brown performed admirably in Addai's absence, but Bradshaw would be a huge upgrade.

Then again, with the history of Addai and Bradshaw, maybe both of them go down and they will have to relay on Brown yet again.

8. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys running game never seems to go as planned.

Marion Barber is as inconsistent as they come. With huge expectations going in to the season, he only put up 373 yards on an awful 3.3 yards per carry. Barber has never reached 1,000 rushing in his entire six year career. The Cowboys might be better off parting ways with the disappointing back.

Felix Jones managed to exceed expectations in '10 but still hasn't been the back most expected him to be coming out of Arkansas three seasons ago. He has amassed 1,751 yards in his career with only seven TDs.

The answer is to get rid of one of the above and bring in a back that is still very young, yet has plenty of experience under his belt.

7. Cleveland Browns

The Browns had one of the best running backs in 2010 in Peyton Hillis. But he began to wear down over the final month of the season. Of his 1,177 rushing yards, only 107 of them came over the final three games of the season.

The Browns second leading rusher in 2010?

Colt McCoy with 136.

The Browns lack playmakers on offense and could use a change of pace back with speed to counter the up-the-middle, smash-mouth style of Hillis.

The Browns need to go with the two-back system, and snagging a proven player like Bradshaw would be a huge addition for the Browns.

6. Philadelphia Eagles

Another team that relied on a single back, the Eagles would love to pluck a division rival onto their team.

LeSean McCoy had a solid year for Philly, as he carried the ball 207 times for 1.080 yards and seven TDs.

But the second half of the season really slowed him down, as he exceeded 64 yards just once in his last five games played.

The big rushing story for this team in 2010 was Mike Vick. He ran for 676 yards and broke off a couple of huge gains.

For the Eagles to sustain success in 2011, they will need Vick to limit his rushing attempts and for another back to share the load with McCoy.

5. New Orleans Saints

The Saints running game was a mess this season, and Bradshaw could fill a need.

Reggie Bush continues to show the world that he is little more than a great punt returner that is good for no more than five carries a game.

Chris Ivory had 716 yards but didn't really impress anybody in the process. He was placed on the injured reserve this week and will miss the playoffs.

Pierre Thomas come out of nowhere and had a 2009 to remember. But he also had a forgettable 2010, accumulating a paltry 263 yards in six games. He too ended up on injured reserve.

All of the Saints options are below average, and Bradshaw would bring stability to the Saints rushing attack.

4. Washington Redskins

So it looks like every NFC East team needs a running back.

Clinton Portis had another year marred by concussions and was only able to play in five games (227 yards) with little impact for his team. He may never play a meaningful down in the NFL again, let alone for the Redskins.

Ryan Torrian had a surprisingly solid season in Portis' absence. He compiled 742 yards while averaging 4.5 yards a carry. But the former fifth round pick isn't expected to be the savior for the Redskins.

Keiland Williams? Uh no.

Daniel Snyder loves to throw gobs of money at free agents, and Bradshaw would certainly fill a big need for the 'Skins.

3. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals running game took a bit of a tumble after a stellar '09 season.

Cedric Benson regressed and is now a free agent. It's pretty obvious that Benson was very upset with the play-calling on offense by year's end and has no plans of re-signing.

Bernard Scott has performed well in the role of the second string back that is good for about 8-10 carries and 2-3 catches a game. But his tiny frame doesn't allow him to take the bulk of the load.

Acquiring Bradshaw will fill a hole and give the Bengals a bit of an upgrade at the position.

2. Denver Broncos

The Broncos had one of the worst running games in the entire NFL in 2010. You can point the finger at the offensive line, but the running backs weren't much help either.

The Broncos first round pick in 2009 has been underwhelming in his two seasons with the Broncos. Knowshon Moreno has battled injuries through-out his career and only has two career 100-yard rushing games.

With the amount of money owed to Moreno, the Broncos can't cut him. If he isn't expected to carry his team—Moreno would have a chance to be fresh and injury-free. He has a lot of good football left in him; he just needs some help.

Correll Buckhalter and Lance Ball sure aren't the answer. So sign Bradshaw and form one of the more explosive running tandem's in the league.

1. Green Bay Packers

Ryan Grant's open week injury was a huge blow for the Pack. They whiffed on Marshawn Lynch and have been missing a solid running back all season long.

In a late season three-point loss to the Falcons, the turning point was when Aaron Rodgers fumbled the ball at the goal-line when the Pack were about to get the go ahead score. Rodgers had to run the ball himself due to the lack of reliable back for the Packers to give the ball to in a one-yard situation.

As a team, the Packers ranked 24th in the league with 100 rushing yards a game. Brandon Jackson averaged a measly 3.7 yards per carry in route to a 703 yard season. That's not good enough.

Acquiring Bradshaw could really help an already explosive offense that is missing a reliable running back.
