2011 NFL Mock Draft: Who's No. 1 Now with Andrew Luck Back at Stanford?

Richard LangfordJan 6, 2011

Well, well, well—if it isn't Stanford's lucky day. That's right, luck will continue to be on the side of the Cardinal. Stanford is counting its lucky stars, and those stars still total one.

All right, that's enough pushing my "luck" with the puns. In case you pun detector is malfunctioning, what I am saying is that Andrew Luck will be returning to Stanford for his junior season, the team announced Thursday.

What's that? Oh, hang on, while I get to this report:

*Breaking News: Jimmy Clausen has just been detained by police for indecent exposure after he was found running and leaping, naked in the streets of Carolina. We now return you to your regularly scheduled article.

Luck's announcement is going to shake up the draft from the top down. It's time for a new mock with a new No. 1. The Carolina Panthers are on the clock.

1. Carolina Panthers: A.J. Green, WR (Georgia)

The Panthers pass offense ranked at or near the bottom in every major statistical category. With Luck gone, there isn't another QB out there that they simple can't pass on.

So instead they will give Clausen another weapon and help deflect opposing defenses' attention from Steve Smith. A.J. Green has the size, speed, route-running and hands to be a difference-maker on the outside.

2. Denver Broncos: Nick Fairley, DT (Auburn)

The good news for the Broncos is that whoever they draft will be filling a need. They have holes all over the place.

Their woes started and ended in 2010 with their inability to stop the run. They will look to add the beef and blocker-eating capabilities of Nick Fairley. Fairley projects to a be a 3-4 end that can stuff the run and rush the passer.

3. Buffalo Bills: Marcel Dareus, DT (Alabama)

The Bills struggled to stop the run all year. Marcel Dareus projects to be a dominant 3-4 DE. He will come in and help solidify Buffalo's run D from the first day of camp.

4. Cincinnati Bengals: Ryan Mallet, QB (Arkansas)

The Bengals are ready to move on from the Carson Palmer era. Mallet has the arm and fundamentals that will leave the Bengals drooling.

5. Arizona Cardinals: Cam Newton, QB (Auburn)

The Cardinals are desperate for a QB. They will not be able to pass on the freakish combination of talents that is Cam Newton. They will let him make plays with his feet and chuck up go-get-'em passes to Larry Fitzgerald while he refines his skills.

6. Cleveland Browns: Robert Quinn, DE-OLB (North Carolina)

The Browns need some outside pass rush help. Holmgren is a big proponent of going young on D and they will bring in Quinn. Quinn has the size and speed to make an immediate impact on the edge.

7. San Francisco 49ers: Jake Locker, QB (Washington)

The 49ers are in obvious need of a QB. They will have a new coach and he will want to get his guy under center. Locker's stock has fallen, but he will blow scouts away with his interviews and talents at the combine.

8. Tennessee Titans: Patrick Peterson, CB (LSU)

DB is not the biggest need for the Titans, but they will find Peterson's shutdown potential to great to pass on with the eighth pick. Peterson also brings an explosive return game.

9. Dallas Cowboys: Prince Amukamara, CB (Nebraska)

The Cowboys struggled on pass D all season. Amukamara is almost rated as high as Peterson and he has all the tools to be a shutdown corner.

10. Washington Redskins: Da'Quan Bowers, DE (Clemson)

The Redskins pass rush struggled all season. Bowers would be an immediate upgrade. He has the size and quickness to get to the QB in the NFL.

11. Houston Texans: Vonn Miller, DE/OLB (Texas A&M)

The Texans were horrific on pass D all season. They will look to upgrade it from the front back when they select Big-Ten sack leader Miller.

12. Minnesota Vikings: Nate Solder, OT (Colorado)

The Vikings Offensive Line fell apart in 2010. Solder is a pro ready prospect that has the size and quickness to play Left or Right Tackle.

13. Detroit Lions: Brandon Harris, CB (Miami)

Opposing WRs shredded the Lions all year. Harris speed and ball skills would be an immediate upgrade for the Lions.

14. St. Louis Rams: Justin Blackmon, WR (Oklahoma State)

The Rams have their QB and now they need to get him a target. They'll be ecstatic if Blackmon and his number one WR potential lasts until the 14th pick.

15. Miami Dolphins: Mark Ingram, RB (Alabama)

The Dolphins RBs are aging and may not be back. The 'Phins have a solid line and Jim Harbaugh (I'm penciling this one in) will look for a back to help his team get back to their power running game.

16. Jacksonville Jaguars: Aldon Smith, DE (Missouri)

The Jaguars will look to bookend their young DTs with a DE. Smith has the look and potential to have a long NFL career at DE.

17. New England Patriots (from Oakland): Cameron Jordan, DE/DT (California)

The Patriots need to bolster their D-line. Jordan projects as a perfect fit for an end in a 3-4 system.

18. San Diego Chargers: Adrian Clayborn, DE (Iowa)

Both of the Chargers DEs contracts have expired. Clayborn will fill a need. He has lingering character issues, but all the potential to be great.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Akeem Ayers, DE/OLB (UCLA)

The Bucs have the beef up the middle on defense and now they will look to bring the heat from the outside. Ayers will do just that.

20. New York Giants: Anthony Costonzo, OT (Boston College)

The Giants have an aging line and slipping offensive line and they will look to upgrade their Tackles. Costonzo has great size and solid footwork.

21. Seattle Seahawks: Derrek Sherrod, OT (Mississippi State)

The Seahawks drafter their LT in 2010; now they will target their RT. Their line play was abysmal. Sherrod will be an instant upgrade.

22. Kansas City Chiefs: Jonathan Baldwin, WR (Pittsburgh)

The Chiefs will look to upgrade their passing game. Baldwin will give them the tall rangy receiver to go with Dwayne Bowe on the outside.

23. Indianapolis Colts: Gabe Carimi, OT (Wisconsin)

The Colts need to build up their run game and give Manning more time. Carimi's stock has fallen, as he is not seen as a LT. He is still a solid line player and may even project as a Guard.

24. Philadelphia Eagles: Mike Pouncey, C/G (Florida)

The Eagles offense has been slowed by their offensive line. Pouncey is versatile and punishing.

25. Green Bay Packers: J.J. Watt, DE (Wisconsin)

The Packers are likely to lose one or two DLs to free agency. Watt will be able to step and fill a need right away.

26. New Orleans Saints: Drake Nevis, DT (LSU)

The Saints lack depth in the trenches. Nevis will provide a solid inside push and provide a strong presence on run downs.

27. Chicago Bears: Tyron Smith, OT (USC)

It's hard to believe the Bears made the playoffs with their offensive line. They will take the best Tackle remaining.

28. New York Jets: Cameron Heyward, DE/DT (Ohio State)

The Jets need to generate more of a pass rush from their line. Heyward has the ability to get to the QB and the size to play end in a 3-4.

29. Baltimore Ravens: Aaron Williams, CB (Texas)

The Ravens defense lacks the lock-down corners they had during their Super Bowl run. Williams will be the best CB available and the Ravens will grab him.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: Marcus Cannon, G/T (TCU)

The Steelers cannot play the kind of smash-mouth offense they love without a great offensive line. Cannon will likely be a Guard in the NFL and he could solidify the Steelers interior.

31. Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Rudolph, TE (Notre Dame)

Tony Gonzalez may retire. Matt Ryan has gotten use to having a reliable TE. Rudolph could step in on day one and fill Tony's sizable shoes.

32. New England Patriots: Julio Jones, WR (Alabama)

The Pats offense excelled after Randy Moss left. Still, they will look for someone who can stretch the D. While Jones struggled with consistency with catching, teams will still have to guard him when he goes long.
