NFL Free Agency Predictions: 10 Possible Moves For Ricky Williams

Tom KinslowJan 6, 2011

NFL free agency predictions are starting to come out and we're taking a look at Ricky Williams.

We all remember when Williams was one of the best players at his position in the NFL before he had a meltdown and retired from football. He came back and has had a decent time since his return and will be a free agent after the year.

He doesn't seem happy in Miami so with that in mind, here are 10 teams that could use a player like Williams.

Agree or disagree, make sure to leave it in the comments.

No. 10: San Diego

DENVER - JANUARY 02: Running back Ryan Mathews #24 of the San Diego Chargers rushes against the Denver Broncos at INVESCO Field at Mile High on January 2, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. Mathews rushed for three touchdowns and 120 yards as the Chargers defeate

With Ryan Mathews in the fold, there isn't much depth behind him at San Diego.

The Chargers had to deal with an injury to Mathews in the past and bringing in Ricky Williams would be a guy who can get some of the tough yards and help move the chains and take the load off of Mathews in the running game.

Plus it would give him a chance to play for a team that can make a playoff run.

No. 9: Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys had a horrendous time trying to run the ball this year.

Yes, some of that has to do with the fact that the offensive line was awful and some of that has to do with the fact that Marion Barber simply isn't that good. Williams isn't a dominant back, but he has the instincts that made him a great back.

With some improvements on the line and Williams in the fold, it could be a nice combination with Barber and Tashard Choice.

No. 8: St. Louis

Yes, Steven Jackson is the man in St. Louis, but there's a lot of miles on those tires.

Jackson is valuable to the Rams, but St. Louis could use a guy who can come in and take some carries and strain off of Jackson in the offense. With Sam Bradford still getting settled into the NFL, a veteran like Williams can help keep the offense fresh.

I think the Rams should look at him as an option.

No. 7: Arizona

GLENDALE, AZ - DECEMBER 25: Runningback Tim Hightower #34 of the Arizona Cardinals leaps past Terence Newman #41 of the Dallas Cowboys during the NFL game at the University of Phoenix Stadium on December 25, 2010 in Glendale, Arizona. The Cardinals def

The Arizona Cardinals haven't been able to run the ball in years and Ricky Williams could improve that.

He won't turn Arizona into a dominant rushing team, but he's better than the guys that are in place there. Sure, Tim Hightower has shown flashes, but he can't put a team on his back and bringing in Williams would improve the offense.

These aren't the Kurt Warner Cardinals, they can't sling the ball all over the field.

No. 6: Denver

While Knowshon Moreno is the guy in Denver, he has struggled at times and could use a good change of pace guy.

Ricky Williams would fill that void and give the Broncos a little more toughness at the running back position and keep Kyle Orton or Tim Tebow from throwing until their shoulders fall off in that offense. The Broncos will never win in that system and getting another running back will help.

It's a move that would make sense for Williams.

No. 5: Green Bay

PHILADELPHIA - SEPTEMBER 12: Ryan Grant #25 of the Green Bay Packers rushes after a catch during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on September 12, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

One thing that has killed the Green Bay Packers this year is the lack of depth at the running back position.

Ryan Grant went down in the season opener against Philadelphia and then Brandon Jackson stepped in and simply couldn't fill the void for the Packers.

Adding Ricky Williams to the team would give some needed depth to spell Grant and work as a replacement if he gets hurt again.

It's a move Green Bay should make after not trading for Marshawn Lynch.

No. 4: Washington

In Washington, Clinton Portis used to be the guy who put the team on his back and carried them to wins.

In recent years, Portis has dealt with injuries and while Ryan Torain stepped in and played admirably, he's not a franchise running back. Adding Ricky Williams to that equation would give Washington depth and a veteran presence.

The Redskins are never afraid to bring in aging stars, so why not Williams?

No. 3: Tennessee

8 of 10
INDIANAPOLIS - JANUARY 02: Chris Johnson #28 of the Tennessee Titans is tackled by Jacob Lacey #27 of the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on January 2, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana. the Colts won 23-20. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Yes, Chris Johnson is one of the best backs in the league, but the Titans desperately need a power back.

Johnson cannot handle that pounding between the tackles, his frame cannot support that and Javon Ringer cannot fill that role either. Adding Williams would create a depth of backs at the position and give Tennessee options.

It's a smart move, so naturally the Titans won't make it.

No. 2: Seattle

9 of 10
TAMPA, FL - DECEMBER 26: Running back Marshawn Lynch #24 of the Seattle Seahawks runs the ball against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the game at Raymond James Stadium on December 26, 2010 in Tampa, Florida. (Photo by J. Meric/Getty Images)

The Seahawks traded for Marshawn Lynch to improve the running back position, but he hasn't exactly taken the league by storm.

He's played well at times, but adding Ricky Williams to the roster would give some depth and give a guy who can produce for you.

Seattle has no real quarterback at this point so that will have to change but a solid qb and that running game could be effective.

It wouldn't be great, but it could get the job done.

No. 1: New England

Why New England you might ask?

The Patriots have BenJarvis Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead in place right now, making the position pretty stable. Well Ricky Williams had positive things to say about New England as he ripped the Dolphins and could replace Fred Taylor on the roster.

It wouldn't be the first time that New England brought in a guy like Williams.

It almost makes too much sense.
