NFL Playoff Predictions: Packers vs. Eagles, Jets vs. Colts and Wild Card Weeken

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

Wild Card Weekend is just two days away, and four huge matchups, including Michael Vick's return to the postseason and an AFC Championship rematch, await.

Saturday's games feature a reigning Super Bowl MVP in Drew Brees taking on the 7-9 NFC West champs, as well as the aforementioned rematch between the Jets and Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, the site of last year's AFC Championship Game.

Sunday's games get even better as the Baltimore Ravens travel to Arrowhead in search of their fourth road playoff win in three seasons. In the Sunday evening game, we get to see Michael Vick return to postseason action for the first time since 2004 when he was a member of the Atlanta Falcons.

Join B/R as we take a look at this weekend's wild-card matchups and present you a winner for every game.

New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks

In what is likely the weekend's toughest task, the Seahawks (7-9) will have to defend their home field against the reigning Super Bowl champions in order to advance.

New Orleans (11-5) finished the season on a 7-2 tear, which featured a 34-19 win over the Hawks in the Superdome.

The game is scheduled for a 4:30 PM EST kickoff on NBC Saturday evening. Seattle went 5-3 at Qwest Field in 2010. Temperatures will be in the low 40s with a chance of showers.

Winner: New Orleans Saints

The argument that the 7-9 Seahawks should not be hosting a playoff game or even be in the playoffs will be proven meaningless on Saturday night.

The championship pedigree of the Saints and their leader Drew Brees will be far too much for the mediocre Seahawks to overcome.

Brees will keep the Saints offense on the field and in control of the game for the most part. Seattle lacks any offensive firepower that could keep them around. If they get behind early, they are likely finished by halftime.

Prediction: New Orleans 38 Seattle 13

New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts

The stage is set for a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game, which was won by the Colts on their home field after trailing 17-6 in the second quarter.

This year is different, however. Indianapolis (10-6) is riddled with injuries, and the Jets (11-5) are the favorites on the road.

Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Colts are 6-2 this season, is sure to be rocking before, during and after kickoff Saturday night.

The game is scheduled for a 8:00 PM EST kickoff on NBC Saturday night.

People seem to have forgotten about the AFC South champions. The Indianapolis Colts won their way into the postseason with four straight wins to round out the regular season.

The Colts won their division and locked up a home playoff game, not the Jets. The Colts have also beaten the same number of winning teams as New York: two.

The Jets have been solid on the road this season, but Peyton Manning at home is a totally different monster than Detroit or Buffalo.

Prediction: Indianapolis 24 New York 21

Baltimore Ravens vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday's early game should be a good one as the 12-win Baltimore Ravens (12-4) travel to Kansas City (10-6) in search of yet another road playoff win.

The Ravens are road warriors having gone 3-2 in five road playoff games over the past two seasons, the last one coming to the chagrin of Tom Brady and the Patriots in Foxborro.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, are in uncharted territory. The AFC West champs stumbled down the stretch, losing their first home game of the season in the regular season finale to Oakland.

Look for a physical game dominated by both defenses. The Ravens are more than experienced in that department and Kansas City's stoppers usually play well at home.

The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM EST kickoff on CBS Sunday afternoon. Temperatures in the low 30s and plenty of sunshine are expected.

The Ravens postseason experience will be too much for the Chiefs on Sunday. Plus Baltimore is the better team. They have a big-play offense lead by Anquan Boldin and Ray Rice, and a Super Bowl defense lead by veterans Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

The one advantage Kansas City does have is the venue. The Chiefs went 7-1 at Arrowhead in 2010. But even if they went 8-0, I would still like the Ravens in this game.

Prediction: Baltimore 20 Kansas City 14

Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA - SEPTEMBER 12: Michael Vick #7 of the Philadelphia Eagles walks off the field and greets Aaron Rodgers #12 after a loss in a game against the Green Bay Packers at Lincoln Financial Field on September 12, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Packers (10-6) and Eagles (10-6) both opened up their seasons against one another way back on September 12, 2010, Week 1.

This Sunday, Green Bay travels back to Philadelphia in hopes of earning its biggest win of the season. Michael Vick was just a backup quarterback in the previous matchup, but that didn't stop him from bringing Philly back, coming a yard short of nearly tying the Packers and sending the game into overtime.

Green Bay won the Week 1 matchup 27-20 behind Aaron Rodgers' arm and the strength of their defense.

The game is scheduled for a 4:30 PM EST kick off on FOX Sunday evening. Temperatures in the mid 30s and sunshine are to be expected.

Michael Vick's remarkable 2010 season will come to an end on Sunday as his Eagles finish the season on a three-game skid.

The difference in this game is simple. The Packers had to, and did, win their last two games against two 10-win teams in the Giants and Bears, while the Eagles lost two in a row at home and now head into the postseason unsure and completely flat.

Aaron Rodgers has been superb in his last two outings proving he is ready to take the next step, which is his first career playoff win. The Green Bay defense has shined also in the past two games and will likely keep Vick under pressure Sunday night.

Prediction: Green Bay 31 Philadelphia 27

After this weekend's Wild Card games the divisional round will be set and it should look something like this:

AFC

  • Indianapolis vs. Pittsburgh (first meeting in 2010)
  • Baltimore vs. New England (Patriots defeated Ravens 23-20 OT)

NFC

  • New Orleans vs. Chicago (first meeting in 2010)
  • Green Bay vs. Atlanta (Falcons defeated Packers 20-17)
