NFL Mock Draft Top 10 Picks (With NFL Comparisons)
The NFL regular season is over and the playoffs are only a few days away. I, being a Chargers fan, am more looking forward to the NFL draft for obvious reasons, so I decided to do a mock draft. The NFL comparisons are based on the way the players play, not the the amount of skill they have. This is my first slideshow so it will only be the top 10 picks.
1. Carolina Panthers: Andrew Luck QB Stanford
1 of 10
NFL Comparison: Sam Bradford
The Panthers go with the best guy on the board and get a new franchise QB. It is clear Jimmy Clausen isn't the answer in Carolina and Luck will give the Panthers an immediate upgrade at the position. If the Panthers can pick up a receiver to partner with Steve Smith, I could see Luck doing for the Panthers what Bradford has done for the Rams. He is listed as 6'4" 235lbs and has the ability to make all the throws in the NFL. For me, Luck is a lock to go No. 1 in this year's draft.
2. Denver Broncos: Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
2 of 10
NFL Comparison: Nnamdi Asomugha
Denver gets the best defensive player in this year's draft and a possible replacement for veteran Cornerback Champ Bailey. Prince Amukamara has a lot potential and reminds me of the Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. He is a physical corner who posseses great speed and will excel in man to man coverage. Also an able and willing tackler, Amukamara gives the Broncos an immediate starter on defense and is a future lockdown corner. I give him a slight edge over Patrick Peterson of LSU.
3. Buffalo Bills: Marcell Dareus DT Alabama
3 of 10
NFL Comparison: Haloti Ngata
I have Bills taking the defensive lineman Marcell Dareus out of Alabama. He can play both Defensive End and Nose Tackle which would work well in the Bills 3-4 defense. At 6'4" 304lbs Dareus has the right size to be as dominant in the NFL as he was in College.
4. Cincinnati Bengals: Cam Newton QB Auburn
4 of 10
NFL Comparison: Vince Young
The Bengals simply can not pass on Cam Newton. This year's Heisman trophy winner has all the skills that make an NFL Quarterback. At 6'6" 250lbs he is the ideal size for a franchise QB and his ability to run the ball reminds me a lot of Vince Young. To me Carson Palmer is not the answer in Cincinnati and has not lived up to the hype since leaving USC. The fact is he hasn't won a playoff game and the Bengals must go in a new direction by picking Cam Newton at No. 4.
5. Arizona Cardinals: Patrick Peterson CB LSU
5 of 10
NFL Comparison: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Although the Cardinals do have problems at quarterback I have them taking the best player available in Patrick Peterson at No. 5. Peterson has true shut down corner ability. At 6'1" 211lbs his size and speed are similar to that of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. His coverage skills and skills in the return game give him the ability to be a true playmaker in the NFL. The Cardinals get the chance to team Peterson with DRC and have a promising pair of playmakers at the Cornerback position.
6. Cleveland Browns: A.J Green WR Georgia
6 of 10
NFL Comparison: Larry Fitzgerald
A.J Green has the hands and playmaking ability of Larry Fitzgerald. At 6'4" 212lbs he is a matchup problem for any defensive back. I can see him turning out to be an early candidate for Rookie of the Year. At the moment the Browns do not have a No.1 receiver so A.J Green would take that spot on the depth chart straight away.
7. San Fransisco 49ers: Robert Quinn DE North Carolina
7 of 10
NFL Comparison: Julius Peppers
The 49ers select Robert Quinn out of North Carolina. I would still rate him one of the best DE in the draft even after he was suspended for lying to NCAA investigators. At 6'5" 270lbs he is the ideal size for an NFL defensive lineman. He would fit perfectly in the 49ers 3-4 defense and has the potential to be a true force on the defensive edge similar to Julius Peppers.
8. Tennessee Titans: Nick Fairly DT Auburn
8 of 10
NFL Comparison: Darnell Dockett
The Titans go with Defensive Tackle Nick Fairly out of Auburn to give them much needed help on defense. The Lombardi award winner led the SEC in tackles for loss this season. After the announcement that the Titans will not be bringing Vince Young back next season some might expect them to draft a QB, but I believe they will pick one up in the offseason so they will upgrade their defense with their first pick.
9. Dallas Cowboys: Mark Ingam RB Alabama
9 of 10
NFL Comparison: Darren McFadden
The Cowboys decide they can not past on last years Heisman trophy winner. Even with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice in the backfield, I expect one of them to leave in the offseason and so the Cowboys will decide to get an every down back in Mark Ingram. With a running style similar to Darren McFadden, I see Ingram having an immediate impact on the NFL. This may be a surprise pick for some, but I see Ingram as the future of the Cowboys backfield.
10. Washington Redskins: Julio Jones WR Alabama
10 of 10
NFL Comparison: Randy Moss
With 1133 yards, Alabama's leading receiver would fit perfectly in the Redskins offense. At 6'4" 220lbs, his ability to catch the deep ball and run the slant route could turn the Skins offense around. They do have Chris Cooley but they need another weapon at the receiver position. Julio Jones could be just the weapon they are looking for.
