NFL Free Agency 2011: The Top 10 Destinations For Donovan McNabb
NFL Free Agency is not that far off down the road, even with the Playoffs getting ready to kick off this weekend.
This free agency year should be intriguing, if nothing else, with the fear of a labor dispute and lockout looming in the fall. It will be very interesting to see how owners spend and how active the market is with all the uncertainty surrounding next season.
One of the more interesting cases will be Donovan McNabb, who is unhappy in Washington and looking more and more like he won't be back with the Redskins next year.
So with that in mind, here are the top destinations for McNabb should he be looking for a new home next year.
10. Carolina Panthers
1 of 10
The Panthers are obviously in a rebuild right now, and McNabb is not a long-term solution for sure. But one of the problems with Carolina this year was that neither Jimmy Clausen or Matt Moore played well. Clausen might be the quarterback of the future, or it might be someone at the draft. But McNabb would at least give them a veteran option in the meantime.
9. Seattle Seahawks
2 of 10
Yes, the Seahawks are a playoff team, and yes, they have a quarterback. But he's an aging quarterback that has chronic injury problems at this point. McNabb's not a big upgrade, but he's a little better than Matt Hasselbeck and they can continue to groom Charlie Whitehurst if they'd like.
8. Cleveland Browns
3 of 10
The Browns have had quarterback issues since they re-entered the league. Colt McCoy showed flashes of being the guy, but he's not there yet. McNabb might not be a starter, but he'd be an insurance policy for McCoy. And he's a heck of a better option than Jake Delhomme.
7. Miami Dolphins
4 of 10
Miami went back and forth between quarterbacks this season, as neither Chad Henne nor Chad Pennington played overly well. Of course, there were major injury concerns as well, but McNabb would have weapons around him and a running game that wouldn't force him to carry a team like he has throughout his career.
6. Washington Redskins
5 of 10
With all the turmoil surrounding McNabb in Washington, a return to the Redskins seems unlikely. But we've seen crazier things with the Redskins thanks to Mr. Snyder. All this can go away and McNabb could be lining up under center in August. It's doubtful, but not impossible.
5. Cincinnati Bengals
6 of 10
With all the problems the Bengals had this season, one has to wonder if the window has closed on Carson Palmer in the Queen City. Palmer had okay numbers, but his turnovers have been a problem and perhaps a change in scenery would be best for him. If that's the case, then perhaps McNabb could slide in there. Of course, that depends on whether that receiver named Owens sticks around too.
4. Tennessee Titans
7 of 10
A lot of what happens with the Titans will depend on what happens with the meetings that decide the future of quarterback Vince Young and head coach Jeff Fisher. If Young leaves, the Titans will need a quarterback, and McNabb would be a good fit. A dynamic runner and a star receiver wouldn't hurt either.
3. Arizona Cardinals
8 of 10
The Cardinals are in desperate need of a quarterback after losing a star at the position. Arizona had three different quarterbacks in the position and neither were overly impressive. McNabb would have a lot of help from superstar receiver Larry Fitzgerald and a couple of young running backs in Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells.
2. Minnesota Vikings
9 of 10
The Vikings need a quarterback, and who knows if Joe Webb or Tarvaris Jackson is the answer. Having McNabb as the quarterback would at least buy the franchise time to find a young quarterback they've missed since Daunte Culpepper. McNabb would have a chance to revitalize his career with one of the more talented teams in the league.
1. San Francisco 49ers
10 of 10
The 49ers haven't had a quarterback since Jeff Garcia left. Alex Smith hasn't worked out and the 49ers are in the middle of yet another rebuild. McNabb would add legitimacy to the position and would at least give San Francisco a balanced offense to go with the stout defense. A lot of what happens with the 49ers, however, will depend on the new coach and GM.
