NFL Playoffs: Do Tom Brady and the Patriots Have the Best Super Bowl Odds?

Adam SpencerJan 3, 2011

The playoffs are finally set. Games will begin this weekend with the Green Bay Packers playing the Philadelphia Eagles, the New Orleans Saints playing the Seattle Seahawks, the New York Jets taking on the Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens traveling to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs.

Lying in wait will be the four teams with first round byes: the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears.

Taking into account schedule, momentum and talent, which team has the best odds of winning the Super Bowl?

Here's how the 12 playoff teams stack up.

12. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks beat the Rams on Sunday night without starting QB Matt Hasselbeck.

It will be interesting to see if Hasselbeck or Charlie Whitehurst gets the start this weekend.

Either way, don't expect the Seahawks to have a chance against the Saints.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 1,000,000 to 1

11. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have a really good shot at winning their home playoff game against the Ravens this weekend.

But, once they have to go on the road to play either the Patriots or Steelers, they'll be in a world of trouble.

This season was a valuable building block, but they aren't quite ready to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 400 to 1

10. Green Bay Packers

The Packers are entering the playoffs on somewhat of a roll, winning do-or-die games against the Chicago Bears and New York Giants in back-to-back weeks to secure the No. 6 seed in the NFC.

But, without any semblance of a running game, the Packers likely won't fare very well in the playoffs.

Plus, they have Mike "How Can I Blow This Big Game?" McCarthy calling their offensive plays.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 300 to 1

9. New York Jets

The Jets looked better with Mark Brunell at quarterback yesterday.

But, Mark Sanchez will be their starting quarterback in the playoffs.

If they have to travel to New England or Pittsburgh, don't expect them to find a way to win in the cold weather.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 250 to 1

8. Indianapolis Colts

I should know better than to bet against Peyton Manning, but I can't help it.

His offense and his defense have been decimated by injuries and it doesn't appear that they have enough in the tank to win a Super Bowl.

I'd be surprised if they even made it to the AFC Championship Game.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 200 to 1

7. Philadelphia Eagles

If an opponent can get pressure and hits on Michael Vick early and often, they will render Philadelphia's offense basically ineffective.

If Vick isn't playing well, the team has trouble putting up points.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 150 to 1

6. Pittsburgh Steelers

The first round bye will do this team a world of good.

But, the offensive line, the defense and Ben Roethlisberger will still be banged up heading into their first playoff game.

They have a good shot of making it to the AFC Championship Game, but I don't see them advancing farther than that.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 100 to 1

5. Chicago Bears

The Bears have been putting everything together this season, but they are still vulnerable.

Jay Cutler has improved drastically from 2009, but he's still shaky in clutch situations.

I don't see the Bears representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 80 to 1

4. New Orleans Saints

The Saints are playing high-caliber football right now.

They also know how to win big games, as they are still the defending champions of the NFL.

Plus, they have the easiest game on the playoff schedule this weekend, traveling to Seattle to take on the 7-9 Seahawks.

They have the potential to make it back to the Super Bowl this year.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 50 to 1

3. Baltimore Ravens

Ray Rice is playing his best football of the season lately, just in time for the playoffs.

If the Ravens can avoid the Patriots in Round 2, they'll have a good shot of making it to the AFC Championship Game.

But, of any AFC team, I like the Ravens' odds of beating the Patriots the best.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 30 to 1

2. New England Patriots

11 of 12

The Patriots are undoubtedly the best team in the AFC right now.

They should have no problem reaching the AFC Championship Game and winning, as it will be played in New England.

But, once (if) they reach the Super Bowl, all bets are off, as anything can happen.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 10 to 1

1. Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan and the Falcons should have an easy road to the Super Bowl through the NFC.

If they reach the Super Bowl, they'll have the advantage of being the most balanced team in the NFL.

This team can beat you with the run, the pass, defense or even special teams.

They'll be a tough out, if a team is able to out them at all.

Odds of Winning the Super Bowl: 5 to 1
