Jim Harbaugh: 10 Reasons He Should Be the Broncos Next Head Coach

Tom KinslowJan 2, 2011

Jim Harbaugh is one of the hottest potential head coaches available in the pro ranks and the Denver Broncos are interested in his services.

Inside are 10 reasons why Harbaugh should be the next guy for Denver. If you agree or disagree, make sure to let it be known in the comments. Who do you think should be the next coach in Denver? Would Harbaugh be the guy to get Denver back to the Super Bowl?

No. 10: Looking To Leave Stanford

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that it is a near certainty that Jim Harbaugh will leave the University of Stanford after the season.

There are a couple destinations that will push for him. The Broncos, San Francisco and the University of Michigan will all be interested in his services and it should be interesting to see how the bidding war for his signature goes.

The Broncos should strike while the iron is hot and get him in for an interview.

No. 9: San Francisco Situation

San Francisco is the other pro team that will come calling for Jim Harbaugh and I'm not sure that's a situation I'd want to get into.

There's some players there on both sides of the ball, but there is no semblance of a quarterback there and it's been messy in San Francisco for years now. If I'm a head coach, I'd much rather be in Denver, even if the NFC West is a joke.

However, money talks and if San Francisco ponies it up, he could be swayed.

No. 8: Stanford Connection

John Elway has joined the front office and as a notable Stanford alum, he'll push hard to get Jim Harbaugh in house in Denver.

Harbaugh hasn't coached Stanford for long, but it's a connection between the two and will certainly help the talks between the two sides. Elway will have a vision for the team and knows what it takes to win at the pro level.

It makes sense that the two have been linked, especially after today's announcement of Elway's addition to the organization.

No. 7: Front Office Addition

Not only will John Elway be joining the front office, but so will a new General Manager, who will help shape the future of the franchise.

This hire will be able to work with Harbaugh and they'll be able to form a vision for what the team should be. He won't have to come in and worry about fitting into a culture in Denver. It will be a blank canvas for him to work with.

That's a tempting offer to say the least.

No. 6: Tebow's Development

While Kyle Orton is the man in Denver right now, Tim Tebow's development has already started.

Tebow has played well in his two starts and it's a good starting point for a guy who has a lot of work to do to be a successful pro quarterback. Jim Harbaugh developed a guy like Andrew Luck and turned him into the top prospect in the draft.

I think he could do wonders for Tebow and his development.

No. 5: Fresh Start

PALO ALTO, CA - NOVEMBER 27: Head coach Jim Harbaugh congratulates Delano Howell #26 of the Stanford Cardinal after he made an interception on a pass intended for Joe Halahuni #87 of the Oregon State Beavers at Stanford Stadium on November 27, 2010 in Pa

If Jim Harbaugh came to Michigan, he'd have to be the savior of a program after Rich Rodriguez helped drive it into mediocrity.

If he decided to go to San Francisco, there would be expectations for him to win immediately after the 49ers and their fans thought they were going to be heading to the playoffs this season. In Denver, there's more of a relaxed atmosphere and less pressure to win right away.

Denver would be getting over the awful Josh McDaniels era and he'd have a little more wiggle room to get the players in place. That would be my pitch to Harbaugh if I'm the Broncos.

No. 4: Offensive Mind

One thing Jim Harbaugh would help Denver do is keep the Broncos playing offense.

The Broncos had a lot of success earlier in the season on offense, especially in the passing game and that fits right into Harbaugh's philosophy. He was a former quarterbacks coach and he's worked with offenses before.

It wouldn't hurt to hire him with the talent Denver has on offense.

No. 3: Pro Experience

Jim Harbaugh has had experience at the pro level as both a quarterback and a coach.

Harbaugh worked on the staff of the Oakland Raiders before moving to the college ranks so he's gone through the grind of preparing for an NFL game and knows what it takes to win at the next level, something some college coaches don't know how to do.

That makes him a very attractive option to pro teams and it's no shock they're calling.

No. 2: Quick Turnaround

One thing Jim Harbaugh does is turn situations around in a pretty quick timespan.

He did it at the University of San Diego and he did it at Stanford and it's something that he can do at the pro level. In the NFL, the parity level is pretty high and quick fixes happen all the time and that seems like a great option for Harbaugh.

Harbaugh is a guy who can get his guys in and get the most out of them in no time.

No. 1: Pieces In Place

10 of 10
DENVER - DECEMBER 26: Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd #84 of the Denver Broncos celebrates after a 41-yard reception against corner back Jason Allen #30 of the Houston Texans during the third quarter at INVESCO Field at Mile High on December 26, 2010 in Denv

Let's not act like the Broncos are a lost cause.

Denver has talent on this team, it's just a matter of utilizing that talent and getting the most out of it. Josh McDaniels burned a lot of bridges and ended up losing the team. It's not like Denver really needs a prolonged rebuilding process.

That makes the job an attractive one and one you can sell to coaches.
