Jason MolesDec 23, 2010
This past year, mixed martial arts fans were privileged to see some of the most entertaining fights in a long time. To commemorate these epic bouts, World Extreme Cagefighting and VERSUS have announced that four of the year’s best fights will be featured on WEC: Best of 2010, tonight at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
Four fights in two hours is sure to brighten up your spirits and make your Christmas celebration that much better. Here's a quick rundown of what to expect tonight:
- Chan Sung Jung vs. Leonard Garcia from WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber — Coined “Fight of the Decade” by commentator Joe Rogan, “The Korean Zombie” and Garcia traded leather in three exciting rounds. As a prelim on Spike leading up to the promotions first and only PPV, the fight remains a touchy subject to those that saw it. Fans are still not convinced that "Bad Boy" Garcia won.
- Ben Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis from WEC 53: Henderson vs. Pettis – The year’s best lightweight title fight featured a classic five-round war between champion Henderson and the exciting “Showtime” Pettis. This is the fight Pettis’ busted out his “Showtime” kick, a maneuver that still has mainstream media and fans reeling. It is also the last fight ever to be fought in World Extreme Cagefighting.
- Mark Hominick vs. Yves Jabouin from WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus – This outstanding featherweight fight featured Canadian rivals Hominick and Jabouin, exchanging fire at a never-before-seen pace. Winner of Fight of the Night honors, these two guy really threw down. Battling in WEC’s first-ever event in Canada, Hominick and Jabouin settled a score that dated back nearly a decade.
- Scott Jorgensen vs. Brad Pickett from WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez 2 – Undoubtedly the best bantamweight fight of 2010, Jorgensen and Pickett locked horns in a three-round fight for the ages. Jorgensen really made an impact that night which lead to his title shot at Cruz last week.
WEC: Best of 2010 will also air on Dec. 26 at 11 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. PT, Dec. 27 at 12 a.m. ET/ 9 p.m. PT and Dec. 30 at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT.
