NFL Playoff Picture: Which Teams Have an Outside Chance at Making It?

Andrew RobesonDec 20, 2010

The NFL season is coming to a close.

Already? Just two more weeks left. Seriously?

Doesn't it seem like there should be more? A lot more?

Maybe that 18-game season isn't such a bad idea after all.

Let's take a look at which of your favorite teams still have a fighting chance at making the playoffs.

San Diego Chargers

OK, so the Kansas City Chiefs haven't slipped up yet. But they will, right?

The Chiefs finish their season with games against the Titans and Raiders, both of which are winnable.

For the Chargers to make the playoffs, they need the Chiefs to lose at least one of these games.

The Chargers have two games they should win against the Broncos and Bengals, neither of which they can afford to lose.

If the Chargers want to get really picky, they need the Chiefs to lose to the Raiders, thus giving them the tiebreaker edge if they win out.

Oakland Raiders

At 7-7 the Raiders still have a shot at the playoffs.

Pretty crazy Raider Nation.

However, they have to win out against Indianapolis (yikes!) and the Chiefs.

Then they need the Chiefs to lose their game next week, and the Chargers to lose one of their next two.

Start praying Raiders fans.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a shot to win the division on the road against Indianapolis on Sunday.

OK, so we were all shocked they were in that position to begin with, and no one expected them to win right?

Now they have to win out against Washington and Houston and hope the Colts lose to Oakland or Tennessee, which is unlikely.

The New York Giants were just minutes away from practically winning the division.

Then what happened?

With events that can only be described as insane, the Giants let their chance at the playoffs slip away on Sunday against the Eagles.

Now they are clinging on to hopes of a Wild Card berth; defeating the Packers will give them that.

Green Bay Packers

Last night the Packers were playing for a spot in the playoffs.

But, like so many other teams, they couldn't hold off a comeback by the Patriots.

Now they have to beat two teams with current playoff spots to make it.

Lucky for them though, those two teams are the teams with spots the Packers can take.

The Pack must beat the Giants and Bears just to give themselves a shot, with some help.

Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams

Uh what?

Along with the 49ers, these two teams are competing for the division title.

This division will likely come down to the last game of the season between the Rams and Seahawks.

If the Rams win, they're in. If the Seahawks win, they're more than likely in. But, possibly not.

Who knows?
