The Sweet 16: Week 2 Of The WWE and TNA Power Rankings
This is the second edition of The Sweet 16! In case you didn't catch the debut, this ranks the top WWE and TNA superstars each week. While the past rankings do affect the new rankings, it is all about satisfying the four criteria:
1. Momentum
2. Wins/Losses throughout the week
3. Consistency
4. Support from the fans
So here we go with this week's Sweet 16!
Gone From The List
1 of 19
TNA Tag Team Champions, The Motor City Machine Guns (11)
WWE Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler (13)
Beer Money (15)
16. Wade Barrett
2 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 10
Wade Barrett rehired John Cena this Monday on Raw, and then followed up by a classic Nexus attack. Later in the night, Barrett watched Cena defeat David Otunga and Cena continued by beating Otunga down with a chair. What did Barrett do about this? Nothing.
Barrett moves down because he gave John Cena what he wanted and although they attacked him, Cena recovered well with the beatdown of the "A-Lister". There were also many complaints about Barrett's ranking being at ten last week, so that didn't help his cause either.
15. Kofi Kingston
3 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: NR
What's better than pinning your upcoming pay-per-view opponent once in a week? Well, pinning them twice in a week. That is exactly what Kofi Kingston did, defeating Dolph Ziggler on Raw and Smackdown. Granted both were in tag team matches, but that's still pretty good.
This Sunday at TLC, Kofi has a triple threat ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. With the WWE's tendency to put a guy over on TV only to lose at the pay-per-view, I doubt Kingston will win. However if he does leave TLC as champion, Kofi Kingston will only rise in these rankings.
13. TNA X-Division Champion, Jay Lethal
4 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: NR
This week on Impact, Jay Lethal defeated Robbie E. to once again become X-Division Champion. That's not all, he did kiss Christy Hemme, jealous aren't you? After the week he had, I had no choice but to give Lethal a spot in the Sweet 16.
13. United States Champion, Daniel Bryan
5 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 14
Quiet week for Daniel Bryan and he doesn't have a match at TLC. He moves up a spot because he and Kofi Kingston beat Dolph Ziggler and Ted DiBiase on Raw.
12. Rey Mysterio
6 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 9
Rey Mysterio was defeated twice by The Miz this week. Alberto Del Rio cost him one match and attacked him after the other. On the bright side, he was entered into the World Heavyweight Championship TLC match for this Sunday.
11. TNA Television Champion, Douglas Williams
7 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 8
Douglas Williams moves down thanks to a sneak attack by A.J. Styles. Next week on Impact, Williams defends his championship against A.J. Styles in an Iron Man Match. If Williams wins, he will once again be in the top ten, but if he loses, Styles will take his spot in these rankings.
10. John Morrison
8 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: NR
The Shaman of Sexy, the Guru of Greatness, the Monday Night Delight...John Morrison! What is this man's nickname?
On Raw, it was announced that at TLC John Morrison will take on Sheamus in a ladder match and the winner becomes the No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship. With Morrison and Miz's history, don't doubt victories by both John Morrison and The Miz.
Oh and I have the perfect nickname for him: the No. 1 Contender for the WWE Championship.
9. Matt Morgan
9 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 7
A returning Rob Terry cost Matt Morgan and Mr. Anderson their tag match against Jeff Hardy and Kazarian. Morgan and Anderson, good friends, will fight for the right to become No. 1 contender at Genesis, thanks to Eric Bischoff and Immortal.
Will they fall for Bischoff's games or will they have a clean, friendly match? Who will emerge to take on Jeff Hardy?
8. Sheamus
10 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 16
Sheamus attacked John Morrison on Raw and he now has a chance to get a coveted WWE Championship shot. That is if he can defeat John Morrison at TLC.
I expect Morrison to win, so he can begin a feud with The Miz. We all know Triple H is returning soon to get his revenge on "The Celtic Warrior", but when? Will it be this Sunday to cost Sheamus a WWE title shot?
7. World Heavyweight Champion, Kane
11 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 6
I was begining to compile these rankings during Smackdown's main event, and about to drop Kane when he attacked backstage workers and Edge. While he still dropped a spot thanks to a spear by Edge, "The Devil's Favorite Demon" let it be known that he will show up at TLC to defend his World Title.
I think Edge will win the World Title from Kane at TLC, but I'll expand in a bit.
6. Alberto Del Rio
12 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 12
Alberto Del Rio gained the upperhand over Rey Mysterio this week, moving ahead of him in these rankings. He was also entered into the World Championship Match at TLC. While I don't think he will win, I can't say I'd be shocked if he did leave TLC as World Heavyweight Champion.
5. WWE Champion, The Miz
13 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 4
Yes, he did beat Rey Mysterio twice in one week. However, Randy Orton continued his dominance over The Miz's apprentice, Alex Riley. So because Orton was at five and The Miz was at four, I had no choice but to flip these two.
All that being said, if he puts Orton through a table this Sunday, as I expect him to, he will move back ahead of Orton.
4. Randy Orton
14 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 5
Randy Orton beat Alex Riley and David Arquette this past Monday Night.
I seriously doubt Orton would end Miz's reign so soon. So enjoy your spot over Miz right now Randy, because it's not going to last long.
3. John Cena
15 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 3
John Cena was rehired by Wade Barrett, attacked and then recovered by beating down David Otunga. A chairs match (which I still don't understand) was set for TLC.
I have a feeling Super Cena will overcome all odds and finally defeat Wade Barrett, only for a Nexus attack afterwards. Hopefully this feud will end soon, but I'm starting to wonder if it will end in a match at WrestleMania.
2. TNA World Champion, Jeff Hardy
16 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 2
Despite my dissaproval (as can be read here,) Jeff Hardy continues to roll through TNA. With the help of Rob Terry, he and Kazarian beat Matt Morgan and Ken Anderson.
We don't know who his Genesis opponent is, but with Immortal stronger than ever, can anybody beat Jeff Hardy?
1. Edge
17 of 19
Last Week's Ranking: 1
Edge remains on top with the spear to Kane this Friday night on Smackdown.
Now to what I hinted at earlier. I expect Edge to win the World Heavyweight Championship at TLC and then give Kane his rematch at the Royal Rumble. Edge will beat Kane at the Rumble and a returning Christian will win the Royal Rumble match. This of course sets up Edge vs. Christian for the World Title at WrestleMania. Kane will face The Undertaker.
Winners
18 of 19
12/11/10: Edge
12/18/10: Edge
