TNA IMPACT Review For December 16, 2010
Since debuting in the wrestling section of Bleacher Report, I have done pretty well. I felt as if I needed a change to the continous NFL writing.
The wrestling section also is a lot weaker than the NFL section, because of the dwindling popularity of wrestling compared to the NFL, which is as popular as it's ever been.
Enough about me!
The point of this article is to review TNA Impact as I watch it, for those of you who missed it, since you can't find replays of TNA on Youtube and Hulu likeย RAW, Smackdown or any WWE programming.
I realize you could look at the spoilers, but maybe you'll find this more entertaining or insightful.ย
If sucessful, this will become a weekly thing for me.
Previewing what's on iMPACT tonight:
- The TNA X-Division Championship is on the line, when Robbie E. takes on Jay Lethal.
- The Beautiful People face Mickie James and a partner of Eric Bischoff's choosing as the TNA Women's Tag Team Championship tournament continues.
- Rob Van Dam will go one-on-one with the returning "Freak" Rob Terry.
- More buildup between Matt Morgan and Mr. Anderson as we get set for their encounter at Genesis.
The show begins with a video package of buildup between Mr. Anderson and Matt Morgan. It then cuts to Anderson and Morgan arguing, and we learn Anderson will be in a tag match with Morganย against Jeff Hardy and Kazarian.
Morgan is in the ring and shows off his bad (yet improving) mic-skills. They are really milking this stuff betweenย "The Blueprint"ย and Anderson.
Anderson then answers Morgan and says he'sย in TNAย to wrestle! No kidding Ken!
Morgan talks about the concussion ordeal and wants "the A**hole" to make the right decision forย his career and life.
Here comes Jeff Hardy! Hardy says Morgan and Anderson should get married at Genesis, then he claims Morgan is working Anderson.
Didn't he just contradict himself?
Tenay and Taz then announce we have another dreadful "Double J Double M A Challenge," just great!
X-Division Championship: Robbie E. w/Cookie (c)ย vs. Jay Lethal:
Lethal starts out with the upperhand, then we see Christy Hemme attack Cookie and handcuff her.
Are we in the midst of Hemme returning as a Knockout? What do the people think?
*Commercial Break*
We return to iMPACT and Robbie E. now has the advantage over Lethal. Lethal battles back with a series of Flair-like slaps. Hemme is still beating Cookie up.
Lethal powers out of Robbie E.'s submission and Lethal with a series of clotheslines. The Lethal Combination hit then an elbow off the top rope.ย
Robbie E. reverses a move and puts his foot on the rope for a pin but the referee notices.ย Lethal then superplexes E. off the top rope.
The Lethal Injection hitโ1, 2, 3!
Winner and NEW TNA X-Division Champion Jay Lethal!
Lethal and Hemme kiss after the match. Lethal is a better champion than Robbie E., better in-ring worker for sure. Robbie E. can draw tons of heat, but that's more his gimmick than him.
AJ Styles then trashes Robbie E. in front ofย Eric Bischoff. Bischoff says it's ironic he talks about how Robbie E. can't hold a title and threatens toย replace Styles.
AJ puts his sunglasses on and walks off. Anybody elseย seeing the signs of an AJ Styles face turn? That would be great, he'sย a better face than heel.
*Commercial Break*
Douglas Williams is talking to an interviewer and Brutus Magmus walks up. He tells Williams that Chelsea is done and Wolfe should be back soon.
Styles attacks the TV Champion out of nowhere, so much for the face turn! The Knockouts start screaming because the brawl is in their locker room.
What exactly do screaming women add to this segment? Williams is knocked out, see the irony?
Eric Young and Orlando Jordan, Young has the old TNA Championship and two women,ย Jordan is in a dress and all the sudden Brian Kendrick is in a ghee/robe medatatingโwhat on earth?
Can anybody make sense out of that segment?
*Commercial Break*ย ย
Hardy talking backstage, and I notice that he has one side of his face painted and one side isn't. He says it's going to be a breeze defeating Morgan and Anderson.
Generation Me vs. Eric Young and Orlando Jordan
Those are Hooters girls with Young, as they promote something coming up on Spike TV. So are they really wasting time to promote that?
Young says he's defending his title in a battle royal. He throws Gen. Me, the referee and his partner Orlando Jordan over the top rope.
I am speechless.
Jeremy Buck attacks Jordan and goes for a quick cover but Jordan kicks out. Generation Me tries to flirt with the Hooter's girls and EY dives outside the ring.
Out of nowhere, Jordan makes a Buck tap. Facepalm, that kills any momentum Generation Me had.
Eric Young and Orlando Jordan win
Bischoff tells Mickie James her parter is Miss Tessmacher.
*Commercial Break*ย
Tenay welcomes us back to iMPACT and we have a Women's tag team title tourney match.
Second Round of the TNA Women's Tag Team Championship Tournament: Tara and Madison Rayne vs. Mickie James and Miss Tessmacher
Lots of talk and pushing between Tessmacher and Rayne. Tessmacher with a flury of offense before Rayne takes over.
Submission moves by Rayne while mocking James. James is tagged in and has a series of clotheslines to Rayne.
Tara cheap shots Mickie's andย picks up the win.
Winners: Tara and Madison Rayneย
Kaz talks trash about Anderson and Morgan, then runs in to Rob Terry. He tells Terry he could either be made or fired tonight, basically giving him an invatation to Fourtune and Immortal. Terry says "screw you" and Kaz calls "The Freak" stupid.
Don't we already have enough members for these stables?
*Commercial Break*
"The Pope" evidently has some donations, okay?
Brother Ray talking trash to his brother. Ray says he challenged the biggest, baddest superstar in TNA.
Brother Ray vs. Amazing Red
Great way to squash an athletic, young talent against a guy who should be retired. Red could help revive the once great X-Division, but they squash him instead.
Oh and Red has some offense before a clothesline and a Bubba Bomb.
Winner: Brother Ray
Ray about to attack Red with a chair, before Devon chases him through the crowd.
Jeff Jarrett pumps up his real life egoย and his next segment "The Double J Double M A Challenge", what a joke.
*Commercial Break*
Pope walks through a parking lot, gets in a car and drives off.
"The Freak" Rob Terry vs. Rob Van Dam
They're hyping Terry's return, but when was the last time we saw Van Dam in the ring? It seems like it's been awhile.
They lockup and Terry pushes RVD into the turnbuckles. RVD takes Terry to the ground before Terry gets up and slams RVD. Springboard kickย by RVD then Terry spears RVD.
Sorry if this isn't making sense, but this match is going faster than I can type.
*Commercial Break*ย
Terry bumps RVD into the guardrail, just domination by Terry right now. He rolls RVD into the ring and continues the pure domination. Bearhug on Van Dam before he fights out.
RVD with offense now. Kick from the top rope, the rolling thing and finishes him off with the frog splash.
Winner: Rob Van Dam
So, you squash an actual talent in Amazing Red, but hype Jeff Jarrett with a video package? How dumb is that?
Pope and some other guy arrive at a Night Club.
*Commercial Break*ย
Time for the Double J Double M A Challenge
As you've read, I'm not a Jarrett fan at all.
He seems to be a real life jerk, maybe I'm wrong, but what do the readers think of Jarrett?
He comes out to a bunch of security and a "student from his dojo", yeah right. He pushes JB (the ring announcer.) He trashes a bunch of "volunteers" and finally picks a guy (otherwise known as a plant in the wrestling business.)ย
I think he said his name was Joseย and he gets punched in the face. Jarrett with knees, elbows, about everyhing.
A rear naked choke on the fan and Jose taps.
Winner: Jeff Jarrett
Maybe he's just a great heel, but I've seen (and heard about)ย himย like thatย offscreen. To be fair, I've never met or seen the man in person.
*Commercial Break*
TNA Champion Jeff Hardy and Kazarian vs. Matt Morgan and Mr. Anderson
It's great to hear Mr. Anderson again. Anderson and Hardy start the match in the ring. Hardy flips the bird at Anderson and tags in Kazarian.
Back and fourth match between Kaz and Anderson, Kaz goes for an early pin but Anderson kicks out. The two inadvertenly butt heads. Anderson tags Matt Morgan.
Morgan dominates Kaz, including the repeated elbows in the corner. Anderson is selling being out of it on the apron (although the concussion was real.)
Tag to Hardy, who dominates Morgan, and Hardy tags back out to Kaz.
Anderson in now with offense, before Hardy hit the jaw breaker. This action is going was faster than I can type, so so I'll skip to the end.
When Anderson goes to the top rope, Rob Terry shows up and pushes Anderson off the top turnbuckle.ย
Hits Morgan and Hardy takes advantage by hitting the "Twist of Hate."
Winners: Jeff Hardy and Kazarian
Impact ends with Tenay reminding us Reaction starts at 11:30 tonight, which I feel no need to cover.
Thanks for Reading and I welcome feedback.
