WWE TLC Preview: 10 Things to Know About the Divas Tag Team Tables Match

Leva LiesDec 16, 2010

History will be made in the WWE once again this Sunday at the TLC Pay-Per-View, where LayCool are set to take on Beth Phoenix and Natalya in the first ever Divas Tag Team Tables match.

This match is perhaps the biggest Divas match we've seen in years and involves four of the best female wrestlers the WWE has right now.

LayCool have been dominating the Diva Division for over a year now and were the Unified "Co-Diva's Champions" until Natalya beat the pair in a handicap match at Survivor Series. Just as LayCool were gearing to attack Nattie following her victory, Beth Phoenix made her return to the WWE after being injured at the hands of the Flawless Ones to make the save.

Since then, Beth has stopped LayCool from attacking various Divas weekly and has Glam Slammed both Layla and Michelle in the middle of the ring quite a few times.

This Sunday, Beth and Natalya will be taking on LayCool in an attempt to silence two of the most annoying characters in the WWE once and for all.

Here are 10 things to know about the upcoming match.

This Is Beth Phoenix's Injury Return Match

1 of 11

Forgetting about that ridiculous Battle Royal from the Slammy Awards Raw, this Sunday will be Beth Phoenix's first match since recovering from her torn ACL.

She most certainly has vengeance in mind as it was LayCool who took her out in the first place. We can expect Beth to be booked extremely well this Sunday, asserting her dominance for all of those who forgot.

Also, I do not see Creative booking Beth's team to lose on the night of her return. She is too loved, too over for that to happen and her return to the ring needs to be memorable.

Beth is one of the best wrestlers in the Diva Division and it will be interesting to see how she does, especially after an injury as brutal as hers was.

Natalya Is The Divas Champion

2 of 11

Similar to Beth's case, I do not see Natalya being booked to lose a PPV match only one month after winning the championship. For her dominant Diva booking to continue, her team HAVE to win.

The WWE seem to be high on Natalya, whether this is based on her heritage or pure wrestling ability I do not know, and it would not be a good idea for her to lose a match as big as this on her first PPV match as a champion.

Don't forget that it was LayCool who Natalya won the title off of to begin with, so she's got a lot to prove in a match against them.

This Match Is History Being Made In The WWE

3 of 11

For the first time ever, the WWE fans are being treated to an all Diva Tag Team Tables match.

It has been years since we've seen a woman being put through a table in the WWE and for it to happen under a match stipulation is very impressive on the part of Creative.

However, this is something that would probably benefit the team of LayCool more than the team of Beth and Natalya for one reason and one reason alone:

Most of the history made in the Divas division since 2008 has been made by Michelle McCool.

McCool has been the WWE's reigning Golden Girl since 2008 and has recieved a push that no woman in the WWE has been given since possibly Trish Stratus. Some of her accolades include being the first ever Divas Champion; being the woman to unify the Women's and Divas championships and being the first woman ever to hold both championships.

I'm not going to get into why as we all know the answer to that but it is very likely that Michelle McCool will be the one to win this match and add to her collection of WWE achievements.

LayCool Have Never Looked Weaker

4 of 11

With that being said, since losing the Divas championship last month, LayCool have been losing more and more matches and are no longer dominant as they once were now that Beth Phoenix has returned and Natalya is the champion.

Since the formation of the duo, LayCool have never been booked to look as weak as they are now which could mean one of two things;

One, LayCool is coming to an end or

Two, LayCool is just getting started.

I know there are probably a couple of people scratching their heads at the second statement, but here's the thing, the WWE have become quite fond of throwing curveballs, as have LayCool. This losing streak could be the fuel they need to take over once again and become stronger. If not, a Layla/Michelle break up and feud is imminent.

WWE Are Trying To One-Up TNA With This Match

5 of 11

Yes, we should all know this by now.

This upcoming Tables match is the WWE's answer to the recent cage match on TNA Impact between Tara and Mickie James.

It seems the WWE tries to one-up their "rival" promotion every chance they get, and the Divas are no exception to this.

The debate of the Knockouts vs the Divas has been ongoing for years, and the success of the Tag Team Tables match this Sunday could bring some credibility back on the Divas side. The WWE are beginning to notice that one of the one areas where TNA has the upper-hand over them is their Women's division so I would not put it past them to try and liven up their Divas, make them look at least a little important.

Or, you know, they could just go back to putting inexperienced models in the ring for three minutes, I wouldn't be surprised.

The Stipulation Of The Match Favours Natalya and Beth Phoenix

6 of 11

Beth and Natalya are the two powerhouses of this competition and the stipulation of the match seems to favour them over LayCool.

To win a Tables match, you have to pick a person up and throw them through a table, do a top rope dive onto an opponent laying on the table or force them through it while the table is propped up against a turnbuckle.

So by the looks of things, the powerhouse team of Beth Phoenix and Natalya have the upper-hand over LayCool, a situation 'Chelle and Lay rarely find themselves in.

Does anyone see Layla or Michelle McCool for that matter picking up Beth Phoenix and throwing her into a table?

There Is No Way This Match Can Go On For Only Three Minutes

7 of 11

I do not see any possible way a Tables match can go on for three minutes, not even one involving Divas.

The WWE are not stupid enough to put the four women in the ring, have them fight for a while, get a table thrown in there and have someone put through it, all in the space of three/four minutes. It's impossible, and whoever wins the match would not look any better than they did before it.

The match needs AT LEAST eight minutes, but I'm rooting for between 10 and 12. I sincerely hope they give these four very talented ladies a shot at proving themselves, especially in a match that involves harder bumps than most of them have taken in their WWE careers.

Plus, as I said earlier, Michelle, Layla, Beth and Natalya are all talented wrestlers and are four of the only women on the roster who really make efforts at improving and working hard and what better way to reward them for their work than to give them a decent time frame to put on a good match?

The Match Involves The Two Most Improved Wrestlers In The Divas Division...

8 of 11

Continuing on from the slide before this one, Layla and Michelle have both become very established wrestlers in their own right since the Diva Search.

In fact, out of all of the girls from all four seasons of the Diva Search, these two women are the ones that have put the most work into improving and getting better in the ring and it shows. Say what you want about Michelle McCool, she HAS improved and actually worked hard at it. I'm not a fan of hers and even I can recognize that.

Out of all of the "model" wrestlers on the roster, LayCool are no doubt the best in the ring and for their hard work, they deserve to be part of a match as big and history making as this.

I also think it means something that the WWE are putting two of their women in a match which involves much harder bumps and more risks than they are used to and at least shows their faith in the better female wrestlers on the roster.

...And Two of The Best Wrestlers In The Divas Division

9 of 11

No doubt about it, there are only two women on the roster that can rival Beth Phoenix and Natalya when it comes to wrestling ability and they are Melina and Gail Kim.

Even if Michelle and Layla were not as talented as they are, I'm sure Beth and Nattie could have easily carried them to a good match and seeing as all four women involved are capable of holding their own, there will be no carrying needed this Sunday.

It'll be nice seeing Layla and Michelle go up against Beth and Nattie and really give them a chance to show that they can hang with the best of them. It could even make some of the "model" wrestlers like Kelly Kelly and Eve stand up and take notice and begin to realize that there may be a chance for them too.

I can assure you that this match will not be a bathroom break, as any match that involves talent like Beth Phoenix and Natalya deserves to be paid attention to.

There Is Finally a Reason To Pay Attention to a Diva Match

10 of 11

Some may watch to see if it goes well. Some may watch to see if it ends badly. Some may watch because they're one of the few people left (myself included) who still have faith in the WWE Divas and will tune in no matter what. Some may not watch at all.

Whatever you think about the WWE's Diva Division, the potential this match has cannot be denied. It features four of the best Divas the WWE has to offer and will be the first Diva Tag Team Tables match they have ever given us.

Whatever their reasoning, most people are going to check this match out, just as they should. This bout will be one of the toughest of these ladies' careers and they deserve to be given credit for working their asses off.

Regardless of the result, this match HAS to be watched.

Conclusion

There you have it, a list of 10 things you need to know about this Sunday's Diva Tag Team Tables match. This Sunday's Pay Per View is set to be one of the best of the year so I hope you all tune in!
