Brett Favre Consecutive Game Streak Ends, Vikings Lethargic in Loss
Brett Favre's streak of consecutive regular season games ended at 297. And the Minnesota Vikings couldn't recover, seemingly sleepwalking through a 21-3 loss to the NY Giants last night, thus officially eliminating themselves from playoff contention in what has been a tumultuous and ultimately forgettable 2010 season.
Favre and the Vikings had an extra day (albeit a travel day to Detroit) to prepare for the game as a result of a record-setting snowstorm that not only paralyzed the Twin Cities, but also collapsed the roof of the HHH Metrodome. But it didn't help Favre overcome a lingering shoulder injury. And it certainly didn't help the team in their quest to win a third straight game under interim head coach Leslie Frazier.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Coach Frazier expressed disappointment in the loss, especially with the play of backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson:
"We all would've liked for him to play better. There were some opportunities out there, especially early. He started off pretty good, but when people are giving you so much eight-man front and so much pressure, you have to be able to make plays at the quarterback position and we just couldn't get that done."
Jackson looked out of sorts. Of course, 10 penalties (six pre-snap) and a litany of miscues didn't help. Plus, Jackson faced tremendous pressure, being sacked four times and knocked down nine other times. As a team—okay, especially offensively (187 total yards)—the Vikings simply played poorly.
It was a difficult game to watch. I imagine the 45,000-plus fans who got a free ticket to the game had to be re-thinking this bargain "entertainment" option as the game wore on.
As far as Favre's reaction to his historic streak, he said he was proud of his accomplishment and had no regrets:
"It's probably been long overdue. There's probably been a lot of times the streak should've ended. But it wasn't really a flood of emotions. I just couldn't play. I didn't feel like I could function good enough to help us win. It's been a great run."
I think it's safe to say no NFL player will ever match Favre's consecutive game streak. Records are made to be broken, but this is one that very well could stand forever.
