Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Vick Needs a Strong Finish To Stellar Season

Andrew J. KearneyDec 13, 2010

During this 2010 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles unveiled their greatest weapon.

Due to an early season injury to Kevin Kolb, they allowed Michael Vick to take the reins under center and he hasn't disappointed.  Vick's emergence has been amazing and saved the Eagles' season.

Philadelphia is back on top of the NFC East and has escaped the Donovan McNabb era smoothly.  With McNabb in the distant rearview mirror, the Eagles have hit their stride under Vick's tutelage.  This young, confident team is loaded and may make a run at the Super Bowl.

Despite the Eagles' fantastic year, Vick and the Eagles now need to have an even stronger finish.

The biggest game remaining is next weekend against the Giants.  With a win there, the Eagles would assure themselves a playoff spot and likely the division.

The Eagles' young guns, like LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson and company, have really delivered for them.  Jackson and McCoy again starred last night on the big stage against the Dallas Cowboys.  Jackson exceeded 200 yards receiving and McCoy's huge second half was critical.  Jackson's nice little backdrop into the end zone was priceless... if you're an Eagles fan, of course.

With a strong finish, the Eagles would solidify their position among the NFC's elite.  They convincingly defeated No. 1 seed Atlanta with Kevin Kolb at QB.  If they get another shot at Atlanta, Vick will certainly be chomping at the bit to face his former team.

This time, though, the NFC could be on the line, as it was in 2005.

The tests have come all season and Philadelphia has answered admirably.  Now, with three games remaining, they've already guaranteed a winning season at the very least, but they want much more.

What they want is the Super Bowl and their offense makes them a bona fide threat.  They've been explosive throughout the season and can score in a flash on any defense.

The Eagles are even solid against playoff-caliber teams this season, which is something that isn't always the case.  This will ultimately help them, come January, that is, of course, if they end up getting there.

Vick and others will be instrumental to that occurring.
