WWE Chairs Match: The Lamest Specialty Match Ever

Ed_CapDec 13, 2010

The WWE decided to create a theme PPV built around the Table, Ladders and Chair concept. We have a Table match, a Ladder match and with no introduction or buid up whatsoever, they slided in a Chairs match.

What exactly is a Chairs match? The WWE never actually introduced the rules.

Fans speculated long and hard before the event. A chairs match could be a match where they beat a wrestler so bad then sit them in a chair then the referee counts to ten. It could also be a match where a Chair is hung in a pole, reminiscent of the item in a pole match. It could also be just two guys beating the cheese out of each other with a chair (Yeah, I said cheese).

The event unfolded and basically it's a match where chairs are legal.

Okay, ummm..... So, it's a hardcore match? My gosh. Is it really that hard to think of a specialty match?

They can come up with a decent one following the PG guidelines, right? I'm actually an Attitude Era mark, no doubt. I crave for bloody matches under specialty rules, but AE is no more and its time to let go. I have actually accepted the fact that there are no more blood, no more chair shots to the head and no more hype at every pay per view but a Chairs match is just lame.

A match a kid would watch? I'm not even sure who is being targeted anymore; it certainly isn't the IWC community who scrutinize almost everything in the company. So I don't really get this match.

Plus, last year The Undertaker defeated Batista in a chairs match. If you ever saw the Wrestlemania match, then you can agree that was more of a specialty match than the Chairs match at TLC. It was also more memorable. It was a hardcore match, nothing else.

Under the PG format, that type of match is all we can expect in a Hardcore match so why pretty it up and call it a "Chairs" match. You don't spit at a cupcake and call it frosting, then try to let fans eat it up. They'll throw it to your face. My god, the epic fail served at TLC last year. I can't wait for this year.

This year, Alberto del Rio battles Rey Mysterio in the same match. The PG era version of a Chairs match.

So what's wrong with this one? WWE obviously hate Luchadore when the L in the PPV is ladder, and yet they booked them in the C word. The funny thing is, there are no ladder matches yet announced for the event.

I really expect nothing in this match. Alberto del Rio is one hell of a technical wrestler if he is ever given the opportunity. Unfortunately, he hasn't been given one so far, and I don't expect him to get it at a Chairs match. As for Rey, its either he wins the match or Alberto will once again injures our favorite masked wrestler.

Still, let's wait and see though, honestly; fans are more interested with The Miz being put through a table.

Also, remember the ending for the last Chairs match. Batista won the match, but was reversed because he didn't use a chair legally. Yeah, good one.
