Updated NFL Fantasy Football Rankings, Week 14: Top 40 QBs for the Rest of 2010

Nick CaronDec 10, 2010

The top scoring quarterback of 2009 looks like he might be able to do it in back-to-back seasons. With now a 20-plus fantasy point lead on the rest of the league’s quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers is playing at an exceptional pace.

His streak has now hit four straight games with 25 points or more and he has thrown 11 touchdown passes, adding another on the ground, during that stretch. A remaining schedule that includes both Detroit and New England’s mediocre secondaries bodes very well for this stud quarterback.

Philip Rivers’ hot streak has slowed down over the past couple weeks with just one touchdown pass thrown in Weeks 12 and 13 combined after throwing eight of them in Weeks 10 and 11.

It seems that the injury bug is finally starting to catch up with the Chargers’ receivers and with Malcom Floyd and Seyi Ajirotutu being the only healthy ones on the roster; things could be like this for the rest of the year. Rivers falls three spots this week, down to fifth among quarterbacks.

An emergency appendectomy is likely to keep Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel out of this week’s game. Though the surgery went well and is one of the easier surgeries to recover from, there is certainly a danger that he could take a hit that would open up the stitches. Due to him likely missing this week’s game, he drops four spots to 19th overall while backup Brodie Croyle makes his first appearance of the year at 35th.

Mike Singletary and the San Francisco 49ers have decided to make the move back to their original starter, Alex Smith, bumping Troy Smith back to the bench. While neither player is a particularly great fantasy option, Troy seemed to be making less mistakes than Alex during his time, so it seems odd that they would decide to make the move.

Regardless of the reason, though, Alex is likely to remain the team’s starter through the end of the year, so adjust your rosters accordingly if need be.

It appears that the Raiders have made the decision to go with Jason Campbell as their starting quarterback as they make their push for the playoffs at the end of the year, as Bruce Gradkowski has been placed on IR. Campbell remains a weak number two fantasy option, but at least he isn’t competing for his job anymore. He moves up eight spots to 28th among QBs for the rest of the year.
