Week 14 NFL Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice: Get 'Em or Don't Sweat 'Em

Ryan LesterDec 6, 2010

There were some unusual heroes on Sunday. There always are. Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.

Quarterbacks

Drew Stanton, Detroit Lions

Stanton threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and added another score on the ground. Not too bad against a tough Bears team. His schedule during the playoffs is not favorable. Look elsewhere.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em

Tarvaris Jackson, Minnesota Vikings

Jackson had mixed reviews throwing for 187 yards with two touchdowns and three picks. He added 22 yards on the ground. He was able to get Sidney Rice involved, we probably won’t know Brett Favre’s status until later in the week, so picking up Tarvaris isn’t a must.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em

Running Backs

James Starks, Green Bay Packers

Starks ran for 73 yards on 18 carries against the Niners. Brandon Jackson was more utilized in the passing game. This is a formula that could be used going forward.
Ruling:  Get ‘em

Rashad Jennings, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jennings ran for 45 yards on nine carries with a touchdown. He added a pair of catches for 10 yards. He’s merely a handcuff to Maurice Jones-Drew, who ran the ball 31 times for 186 yards.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em

Tashard Choice, Dallas Cowboys

Choice ran for 100 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. If he can retain a large role, he has some nice fantasy playoffs match-ups in Weeks 15 (Washington) and 16 (Arizona).
Ruling:  Get ‘em

Tim Hightower, Arizona Cardinals

Hightower ran for 81 yards on 15 carries and added a catch for five yards. Beanie Wells had just three carries for 24 yards. It seems that Hightower is the Arizona back to own at this point.
Ruling:  Get ‘em

Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks

While I don’t see another 100 total yards (83 rushing, 17 receiving), three touchdown day for Lynch, especially with San Francisco, Atlanta and Tampa Bay on the horizon, but his performance was too brilliant to overlook.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Javarris James, Indianapolis Colts

James ran for 18 yards with two touchdowns. He added 17 yards on the ground. Strong performance, but I can’t bring myself to trust him during the fantasy playoffs.

Ruling: Dont' Sweat 'em

Wide Receivers

Earl Bennett, Chicago Bears

Bennett caught seven passes for 104 yards. That’s two consecutive strong games as he caught a pair of touchdowns last week. With New England on the horizon, he’s not a bad option.
Ruling:  Get ‘em

Anthony Armstrong, Washington Redskins

Armstrong caught six passes for 97 yards and touchdown. He’s a risky option because he relies on big plays, but he’s been productive enough to at least merit fantasy consideration. He could be a sneaky play in Weeks 15 and 16 against Dallas and Jacksonville.

Ruling:  Get ‘em

Tight Ends

Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints

Jeremy Shockey returned, but Graham still had three catches for 72 yards. It looks like he’ll be the better option going forward.

Ruling:  Get ‘em

Benjamin Watson, Cleveland Browns

Watson caught 10 passes for 100 yards and a score. It’s hard to ignore production like that. He has Buffalo on deck followed by Cincinnati, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, which are three teams he played well against earlier in the year.

Ruling:  Get ‘em

Anthony Fasano, Miami Dolphins

Fasano caught four passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. The score was nice, but there are better options at tight end.

Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em
