Philadelphia Eagles: Why They Will Win the Super Bowl This Year

James EvensDec 5, 2010

The Philadelphia Eagles have had a great season thus far following an offseason of controversy and speculation at the quarterback position.

The Eagles have really been on a roll, compiling a record of 8-4, putting them atop the NFC East.

After an offseason that was filled with speculation and wondering, Eagles fans are really getting a treat this year.

Here are a few reasons why the Eagles will win the Super Bowl this season.

Offense

The Eagles offense has been one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL this season. Okay, they haven't been one of the most explosive offenses—they have been the most explosive offense this season.

They have averaged 256 yards passing this season—ranking them seventh in the league—and have rushed for 144 yards per game, which ranks them third in the league.

It's a great accomplishment to be ranked in the top 10 in both categories, and really sets the Eagles apart by having such a balanced attack.

Underrated Defense

Although they have given up a lot of yards, stats are not everything in the NFL. When looking at the stats, the Eagles are somewhat of an average defense. They give up 223 yards passing—ranking them 17th in the league—and allow 103 rushing yards, which puts them 12th in the league.

The Eagles defense is a hard-nosed group of guys who strike fear in their opponents. It's tough for opponents to be successful against this defense, especially with such a great offense backing them up.

The Eagles have done a great job forcing turnovers this season. They are second in the league at forcing turnovers, with 28.

They also lead the league in interceptions with 20 on the year.

They are led by eight-year veteran cornerback Asante Samuel. Samuel has seven interceptions on the season and even though he is currently hurt, he is still the league leader. It will be a great advantage when the Eagles get him back from injury.

Michael Vick has been a man among boys this season. He has passed for a total of 2,243 yards with 15 touchdowns on the season through the air. He is second in the league in passer rating at 105.7, and is only behind Tom Brady.

Although he has great numbers through the air, Vick has had an incredible season on the ground, rushing for a total of 467 yards and six touchdowns.

Vick is the leader of this team, and really is turning his career around after the dog fighting scandal.

Andy Reid's Desire

Andy Reid has been one of the most decorated coaches of the past decade. The only thing the man is missing is a Super Bowl victory with the Eagles.

It is time that he gets what he is missing, and his drive to get it will be matched by no one.

Andy Reid will be able to coach this team to victory in the Super Bowl, and will in turn become a Philadelphia sports legend.

Kicking Game

The Eagles kicking game is one of the best in the country. Led by David Akers, the 12-year veteran out of Louisville, the Eagles have made 26 of 31 field goals this season and have not missed an extra point. They are the league leader in field goals made.

It's essential to have a great kicking game in the playoffs, and this is just another aspect that will lead to Philadelphia's Super Bowl victory this season.

Desire to Give the Fans a Title

The Eagles are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. They have been a great franchise and have one of the most loyal fanbases.

The one thing they are missing is a Super Bowl victory.

This season just seems like the year that it would be to get that long-elusive victory. With their high-powered offense, and great defense and coaching, it will be hard to beat the Eagles this season.

Sure, a lot of things need to fall in place, but the Eagles are my favorite to win the Super Bowl.
