Aaron Rodgers of The Green Bay Packers Should Be This Year's NFL MVP

Sal DeRoseDec 3, 2010

Aaron Rodgers took the field Week 1 against the Eagles with high hopes that this season was the time to shine. The Green Bay Packers were highly touted and one of everyone's favorites in the NFC.

Now flash forward to today, Week 13. Rodgers this Sunday will take the field against the San Francisco 49ers with his team in place to make a push for the NFC North.

Rodgers has endured everything this season. He battled a concussion that knocked him out, his star running back was injured for the season in the first half of the first game of the year and now comes Week 13 and he has dealt with a couple heartbreaking losses.

Aaron Rodgers is a premier passer in the NFL. There is nothing this guy can't throw. That was proof last week when he threw a late touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson that had the perfect pass and the perfect catch. When he needs to, Rodgers can thread the needle as well as anyone else.

The MVP is the Most Valuable Player, and that is what Rodgers is to the Green Bay Packers. Without him, some of these games they would not have won, and their losses would not have been so close.

Rodgers is playing on a team that has been plagued by injuries all year long. He is playing on a team that is missing six starters with a dozen more players on injured reserve. Yet somehow, some way, Rodgers has still put up the numbers he has.

Aaron's stats don't lie. They tell a story of a California kid who has led his team from the ashes of disaster to the brink of an NFC North title and a 7-4 record. Rodgers this season has passed for 2,945 yards and 20 touchdowns with a 97.4 quarterback rating. He has done it all and is surprisingly first on the Packers with four rushing touchdowns and second in rushing yards with 245 yards. That's the sad tale of a man carrying his team.

Rodgers has done all of that with no running game and a defense that is made up of second-string replacements. Aaron made a case for himself last week when he singlehandedly led his team downfield to score the game-winning touchdown that gave his team a chance to win the ball game, but the defense did not hold up.

Rodgers is the epitome of the Most Valuable Player this season. He may not win the award, but he deserves all of the consideration.
