LeBron James's Schedule: Before, During, and After His Return to Cleveland
On this fine Thursday evening, perhaps the most anticipated match-up of all-time (between two teams with a combined winning percentage of .500) will occur. The teams are the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers. At least we get to see two superstars play against each other, as Dwyane Wade will take on LeBron James! Wait...oops! 'Bron ditched you, Cleveland!
After seven years, one NBA Finals appearance, and two MVP Trophies in The Forest City, LeBron wanted out. He has played 19 games in a Heat uniform, leading (...?) them to an 11-8 record. The beautiful thing about the NBA is that every team plays every team home and away. So tonight, LeBron has to make his return to the city that is not happy with him, to say the least (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvgD9HNTMkM).
Dan Gilbert has increased security, but one thing he can't do is decrease the animosity that the crowd will have throughout the game. With that being said, here's what LeBron has on his itinerary for the night.
5:30 P.M.
Arrives to Quicken Loans Arena. Gets basketball apparel on and shoots around on the court that he has played the majority of his career games on. Perhaps the thought of still being a Cavalier crosses his mind. Realizes that this will be the only time he ever shoots around in "The Q" without being booed.
7:00 P.M.
Team meeting in the locker room. Being in the visitors one for the first time makes him feel just a little bit off. Team discusses game plan, but the thought of what the near future holds doesn't escape his mind.
7:30 P.M.
Heads onto the court for team warm-ups. The booing is non-stop. Expect a few random items to be thrown at him. While on layup (dunk) lines, notices the insane amount of anti-LeBron apparel that WILL BE snuck in...and he just got hit in the face with a hot dog.
8:00 P.M.
Team introductions. "At small forward. At six foot eight, two-hundred and fifty pounds, out of Akron, Ohio, LeBron James" cannot be heard at all. As a matter of fact, none of the Heat players can be heard, because the crowd is going absolutely nuts.
8:15 P.M.
Tip-off. Scores a few early baskets, none spectacular.
9:03 P.M.
At some point in the second quarter, gets a fastbreak dunk opportunity. Fans get excited for a brief second until they realize, "these points don't count for US anymore."
10:18 P.M.
Air balls a three during the third quarter. Crowd loves it, and lets him know just how they feel. At this point, the Heat have a lead approaching double-digits.
10:46 P.M.
Game ends (Not going to bother predicting an outcome, this game could end in too many ways). Regardless of the outcome, he is booed at the highest decibel ever recorded. Quickly runs into the locker room, and is glad the night has ended.
3:49 A.M., Summer 2010
Wakes up from a nightmare. Thinks, "A LeBron led team at 11-8?!?!?! You know what? Forget about money, forget about 'small market,' forget about Nike. Things really ain't so bad here in Cleveland. I think I'm gonna stay."
Wait, this never happened...things aren't looking too hot in South Beach, and something inside of me says that LeBron James wishes he never left.
