NFL Week 13's 10 One-on-One Matchups To Watch: Steelers-Ravens Boasts Many
The NFL is a game of matchups.
Eleven matchups take place on each particular play. Whichever team's players can win their individual matchups the most often throughout the course of a game will have their team well on its way to the victory.
In Week 13, there are plenty of very interesting one on one player matchups.
Here are the top 10 must-see battles that will take place this weekend.
10. Maurice Jones-Drew Vs. Stephen Tulloch
1 of 10
Hype
Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the most talented halfbacks in the entire NFL. Stephen Tulloch is having his best season as a pro while recording 110 tackles, good for second in the league.
Breakdown
Just as the Jaguars have been hot, so has Jones-Drew. He rushed for his fourth straight 100-yard game last week.
Tulloch hasn't gotten much help over the last few weeks as the Titans have lost four straight. The combination of the Titans' defensive scheme using wide defensive ends and the Titans having all pass-rush specialists at defensive tackle will give Tulloch trouble slowing down Jones-Drew this week.
Victor: Maurice Jones-Drew
9. Joe Thomas Vs. Cameron Wake
2 of 10
Hype
Joe Thomas is an All-Pro left tackle who will have to protect his quarterback against Cameron Wake, who is second in the league in sacks this season.
Breakdown
Thomas is arguably the best pass protector in the league at left tackle.
Wake is having the definition of a breakout season while almost doubling his sack total from last season. He'll hit a speed bump this week, though, as Thomas will be able to slow his rush.
Victor: Joe Thomas
8. Wes Welker Vs. Jets Cornerbacks
3 of 10
Hype
Injuries or defenses can't stop Wes Welker this season, as he faces off against one of the NFL's best trio of cornerbacks.
Breakdown
The Patriots move around Welker a lot to get him the football. He will match up against Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson this Sunday.
Whoever is guarding him, expect Welker to get his touches regardless. The Patriots' passing game revolves around him.
Victor: Wes Welker
7. LaDainian Tomlinson Vs. Jerod Mayo
4 of 10
Hype
LaDainian Tomlinson is having a solid year after being labeled "washed-up." Jerod Mayo leads the league in tackles with 132 takedowns.
Breakdown
Tomlinson is having the best season he's had since 2007 running behind the Jets' outstanding offensive line.
Mayo, though, has cemented himself as an elite NFL inside linebacker. He's a true sideline-to-sideline defender and should give Tomlinson trouble on Monday night.
Victor: Jerod Mayo
6. Roddy White Vs. Aqib Talib
5 of 10
Hype
Two players who are having career years will face off in Week 13. Roddy White is near the top of the NFL in receiving yards, while Aqib Talib is an interception leader.
Breakdown
Not many cornerbacks have been able to slow down White this season. He has over 1,000 yards already, and there are five weeks left to go.
Talib actually has a size advantage on White, something rare for a cornerback, but expect White to still have a productive day on Sunday.
Victor: Roddy White
5. Dwayne Bowe Vs. Champ Bailey
6 of 10
Hype
Dwayne Bowe is the hottest receiver in the NFL ,scoring 13 touchdowns in the past seven games. Champ Bailey, though 32 years old, still should be considered a shutdown cornerback.
Breakdown
Bowe has been unstoppable in the past number of weeks. He leads the league in touchdowns with the next closest receiver three scores behind him.
Bowe dominated Bailey in their first matchup this season, but don't expect the veteran to get burnt twice. Bailey will be able to slow him down just enough this Sunday.
Victor: Champ Bailey
4. Santonio Holmes Vs. Devin McCourty
7 of 10
Hype
This matchup features two of the hottest players in the NFL at their respective positions.
Breakdown
Santonio Holmes has four touchdowns in the last three weeks and has won football games for the New York Jets.
Devin McCourty has been a bright spot in a bad Patriots secondary, intercepting three passes in the past two games.
Holmes has just been too good lately, and not many corners, especially a rookie, would be able to slow him down right now.
Victor: Santonio Holmes
3. Michael Oher Vs. James Harrison
8 of 10
Hype
One of the league's best young left tackles will battle for four quarters with an extremely ticked-off outside linebacker in James Harrison.
Breakdown
Harrison has been in the news week after week for all the wrong reasons.
He was a dominating pass rusher before this season's controversy, but with added fuel to the fire, he should be even more lethal.
Expect a few penalty flags because Harrison will be able to have success against the young Michael Oher.
Victor: James Harrison
2. Joe Flacco Vs. Troy Polamalu
9 of 10
Hype
Joe Flacco is having his best season in the NFL, while Troy Polamalu is the same old playmaking machine.
Breakdown
Even though Flacco is having a good season, it isn't as good as most predicted with the upgraded arsenal he was handed this offseason.
Polamalu is making up for all the time he missed last season and is quite possibly the best defender in the entire league. He has two interceptions and five passes defended in the Steelers' last two games.
Look for him to build on that success this week against the Ravens.
Victor: Troy Polamalu
1. Ben Roethlisberger Vs. Ed Reed
10 of 10
Hype
Two foes very familiar with the other will face off in arguably the game of the week.
Breakdown
Ben Roethlisberger has been able to brush off his suspension and play very well with a quarterback rating just under 100 this season.
Ed Reed missed time as well but is still tied for second among safeties in interceptions.
Reed doesn't have the best quality cornerbacks to his right and left, so Roethlisberger and the Steelers will be able to take advantage.
Victor: Ben Roethlisberger
