Philadelphia Eagles: DeSean Jackson Is Putting His Mind Where the Money Is

Dominic PerilliDec 1, 2010

If you're like me, you are an advocate of hard work. You enjoy watching people put in time and effort to be successful. So naturally, you've got to be upset with the effort that DeSean Jackson put in against the Bears.

I'm not going to go into the whole spiel about how D-Jack short-armed passes and backed down from punt returns. I'm sure you've all heard it many times this week by our beloved ESPN. The bottom line is that Andy Reid chewed out Jackson after the Bears game for a reason.

According to ESPN's Matt Mosley, Reid was upset when he learned that D-Jack refused to return punts during pre-game warmups on Sunday. DeSean is reportedly hesitant in fielding punts because it may put him at risk for his new contract. He and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have been spending an "inordinate amount of time texting" each day.

My initial reaction? You've GOT to be kidding me. It makes perfect sense. DeSean is creeping down the field cautiously so that he does not sustain an injury which could threaten his chances of a big contract. These are the types of athletes that I absolutely HATE. This is like hiring a contractor to build a house and they stop midway through and demand more money.

Look, my goal in life is to be an agent. Whether I'm poor or wealthy, I'll be able to say that I advised my clients to act with the utmost professionalism. But, that's beside the point.

Back to this situation.

I personally love DeSean as an athlete, but not as a person. He would be extremely dangerous in the slot, but the Eagles need to grab a possession receiver with a huge frame and leaping ability. Someone who isn't scared to go through the middle. Someone like Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson and Dez Bryant. You know, there is a kid named Justin Blackmon from Oklahoma State who matches this description. Just saying.

To be spending you're whole work day texting and calling your agent about a new contract is completely unacceptable. Period.
