Derek Anderson Prime Fit for Fantasy Football's Ugliest Week 12 Performances

Brandon GalvinNov 30, 2010

Poor play and injuries galore as part for these ugly ducklings of Week 12.

Vincent Jackson returned and won’t be seen for a few weeks after getting injured in the first quarter against the Colts.

Derek Anderson goes berserk on a reporter following the Monday Night loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Randy Moss is still stuck in oblivion.

Steve Johnson blames God for his epic drop.

Just another tumultuous fantasy week that left fantasy owners scratching their heads.

Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks RB

When the Seahawks traded for Lynch, I thought he would be a major fantasy factor as their workhorse back.

Unfortunately for his fantasy owners and Seattle fans, Lynch has not been used that way.

Lynch has a ton of talent as a dual-threat back in this league. He has good speed, power, vision and hands. He can do it all.

The Seahawks simply are not utilizing him to their advantage.

Against the Kansas City Chiefs, Lynch carried the ball just seven times for 20 yards. He also added two receptions for 13 yards. This is not the type of production owners expected when they picked him up following the trade earlier in the season.

Shaun Hill, Detroit Lions QB

Hill has been good for the Lions in relief of the oft-injured Matthew Stafford. Hill has shown the ability to get the ball to his receivers on a consistent basis for the improved Detroit Lions. Unfortunately, Hill could be done for the season with a broken finger.

Drew Stanton would start for the Lions if Hill is forced to miss time.

Bruce Gradkowski, Oakland Raiders QB

Gradkowski’s season could be over after suffering a separated shoulder Week 12 against Miami.

Gradkowski has been up and down this season as he has been in and out of the Raiders starting lineup battling with Jason Campbell.

Gradkowski has shown promise for the Raiders although it never translated into his own fantasy relevance.

None of the Raiders skill players jump up or fall down with the switch to Campbell.

Chris ‘Beanie’ Wells, Arizona Cardinals RB

GLENDALE, AZ - NOVEMBER 29: Runningback Beanie Wells #26 of the Arizona Cardinals rushes the football against the San Francisco 49ers during the second quarter of the NFL game at the University of Phoenix Stadium on November 29, 2010 in Glendale, Arizona

Wells was supposed to come out better than he has all season.

He disappointed, just like he has all season.

Although Wells took a pass for 41 yards, his rushing totals were dreadful.

He only received five carries and took them for 13 yards.

The Cardinals desperately need a running game but Wells has failed to show he has the ability to do so this year on a troublesome knee.

One of the top breakout targets after a solid rookie season, Wells will have to hope he can rebound next year because it’s not looking good this season.

Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals WR

On Monday Night football with his team itching to get back in the NFC West division race, Fitzgerald came up short.

Granted he was dealing with Derek Anderson at quarterback, but Fitzgerald had a well thrown touchdown pass knocked out of his hands on the way down.

This is not something we expect from one of the most gifted receivers this game has ever seen.

Fitzgerald is the captain of the Cardinals and needed to come up with that touchdown for his team and his fantasy owners. Instead, he was left with a poor stat line of four receptions for 37 yards.

Sidney Rice, Minnesota Vikings WR

It was reported that Rice was almost forced to play last week.

One would think a player with Rice’s talent would be able to pick up.

He’d be better off just not playing it seems.

Favre’s favorite target from last season caught just one pass for 20 yards.

Until Rice does something noteworthy, keep him on your bench.

Steve Johnson, Buffalo Bills WR

Don’t blame anybody but yourself, Steve. You were the one that dropped the ball this week. Literally.

Johnson could have upset the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime if he was able to hang on to a perfect pass that landed right in his hands in the end zone to win the game.

Johnson’s stat line would have been very impressive against the Steelers if he made that catch. Johnson still had a good game considering the defense he was facing as he caught seven passes for 68 yards.

Johnson has also been one of the premier breakout fantasy stars this season so his owners can’t even complain.

Still, Johnson ends up on this list for his ugly drop.

Lee Evans, Buffalo Bills WR

Lee Evans’ owners were left with negative fantasy points this week.

Despite a tough matchup with the Steelers, Evans was a decent play as one would figure the Bills would have been playing catch up for the most part.

Instead, the Bills were in it the entire game, which forced the Steelers to play Evans close.

Evans caught one pass for nine yards and lost a fumble.

Even if he doesn’t record a reception in Week 13, he’ll have a better fantasy outing.

Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders TE

Miller has battled injuries recently and didn’t fail to escape Week 12 without another one.

Miller now has a fractured fibula and his status for Week 13 is up in the air.

It is difficult to expect Miller to play this week with all of the injuries he has been through.

The Raiders playoff hopes are still alive but they are steadfastly falling down the ranks after suffering multiple injuries and losing to the Miami Dolphins Week 13.

Miller may want to gut it out, but don’t fall for the gutsy decision if he does.

Keep him on your fantasy benches.

Javarris James, Indianapolis Colts

James has been fantasy relevant as of late because of all of the injuries to Colts running backs. James has seen most of the goal line duties for the Colts.

Unfortunately, he hurt his hopeful owners more than he helped them Week 12. He recevived two carries and lost a fumble.

Thanks for playing.

Addai will be back soon and Donald Brown is starting to receive more playing time. This means Javarris James’ fantasy relevance is over.

Randy Moss, Tennessee Titans WR

The Randy Moss experiment in Tennessee has been an utter failure.

Hopefully Kerry Collins returns to get Moss the ball because third stringer Rusty Smith was unable to.

Moss caught just three passes for 23 yards against the Houston Texans’ pathetic secondary. Moss should have owned this defense for a multi-touchdown game but couldn’t even break 30 yards.

The Titans are still in the playoff race so hopefully Moss realizes that once Collins is back under center. They desperately need to light a fire under this receiver.

All the talent in the world and hardly any production to show for it.

Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers RB

Frank Gore was having a very good season. He was one of the most reliable fantasy backs in the league as a do-it-all threat for the 49ers. Gore is a powerful runner with great hands, speed and vision. The focal point of the 49ers offense, Gore fractured his hip on Monday Night football and will miss the rest of the season.

Veteran Brian Westbrook and rookie Anthony Dixon will split carries going forward.

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans RB

Chris Johnson was surprisingly bottled up by a Houston Texans defense he should have gashed for big yardage.

Johnson was dealing with Rusty Smith at quarterback, so the Texans knew they only had to stack the box. Still, Johnson’s skills should have been able to aide him. Actually, they might have had he been given a chance.

Someone please explain why Chris Johnson, one of the most gifted backs in the league, only received seven carries in this game. It makes zero sense. Johnson should have been fed the rock repeatedly whether it was on the ground or in the air. Johnson only received nine touches, which is absolutely mindboggling. He was only able to garner seven yards on those nine touches.

Don’t expect that to happen again.

Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers WR

So you waited 12 weeks for that, V-Jax?

In his 2010 debut, Vincent Jackson injured both of his calves in the first quarter against the Indianapolis Colts in primetime on Sunday Night football.

So much for Philip Rivers’ reinforcements.

Jackson is expected to miss at least two weeks.

Thanks for nothing!

Derek Anderson, Arizona Cardinals QB

Only to be outdone by his post game press conference tirade, Derek Anderson was laugh out loud bad in primetime on Monday Night football.

Anderson was abysmal at home against division rival San Francisco 49ers.

Anderson was unable to accurately get the ball to his receivers, as usual, and was actually seen laughing on the sidelines during the terrible loss.

Anderson completed 45.7 percent of his passes for 196 yards, an interception and a lost fumble.

It is difficult to believe Anderson will start Week 13.
