Fantasy Football Week 13: 10 Savvy Waiver Wire Moves for Playoff Owners

Gabe ZaldivarNov 30, 2010

Fantasy Football Week 13 is on deck.

With fantasy playoffs looming, many of you need an extra push to get into the postseason. I am here to help.

These 10 individuals can mean the difference between making it to the next round or getting teased all off season.

I will utilize Yahoo fantasy football to determine which players are most readily available. These are the ones thrown into the trash heap of the waiver wire.

You need to claim them before they help your opponent. Whether you need a win to stay alive or just want to play the role of spoiler, you can't go wrong with these guys.

10. St. Louis Defense

Is your defense and special teams not cutting it for you?

Well, I have a solution that will buy you a week of solace.

The Rams' defense is high risk and high reward. That works famously against a group like the Cardinals.

You safely take away the high-risk part.

The Cardinals are an awful team that struggle to put anything on the board. The Rams' defense shouldn't hurt you, even if they are having an off day.

9. Jacoby Ford WR Oakland Raiders

Jacoby Ford is a bit like the Raiders themselves.

One week, he is netting 17 points. The next, he is in the fantasy doghouse.

Ford is a great pick up to have on your bench in the coming weeks. He may prove priceless in the playoffs.

In the coming weeks, he will face softer pass defenses. Those 13-17 point fantasy games may become a lot more prevalent.

Get him now before it's too late.

8. David Garrard QB Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars take on the reeling Titans this week.

Garrard and company have done extremely well against poor teams. That is essentially what the Titans have become.

Their blowout loss to the Texans last week showed little measure of a cohesive defense.

Garrard is more than capable of lighting up the Titans for at least 250 yards. If you are struggling to plug a hole at QB, you could do much worse than him.

7. Danario Alexander WR St. Louis Rams

Danario Alexander had himself a nice little career game last week in Denver.

I can only expect more of the same this week in Arizona.

The Cardinals have only enough defense to cover the first and second options. Alexander will be left to his own devices.

The Cardinals will just as soon get dismantled by Alexander than anyone else. Danario will build on the 96-yard production he had last week.

6. Davone Bess WR Miami Dolphins

With Brandon Marshall sidelined for a possible second week, Bess will get the bulk of the catches.

Bear in mind that the Browns defense can be hit or miss. They could wrap up Bess all game, frustrating fantasy owners.

More than likely, though, Chad Henne will have more than enough windows to throw the ball through to Bess.

5. Justin Forsett RB Seattle Seahawks

Forsett has been the victim of a poor run offense.

He is clearly a better back than Marshawn Lynch, yet Lynch gets the bulk of the touches. Forsett is much more prone to break away for long yardage.

This will be the game that he makes a statement.

With the Panthers up next, there will be plenty of room and alleys for Forsett to run through. This should be a breakout game for the young running back.

4. Joel Dreessen TE Houston Texans

If you are in dire need of a tight end, I can tell you, Dreessen will be out there.

He has served well as a filler while Texans starter Owen Daniels misses time for a hamstring pull.

Dreessen is a stout set of hands. The only downside is he gets underused.

But he has made the most of the passes that are thrown to him. He averages 15 yards per catch.

3. Brian Westbrook RB San Francisco 49ers

With Frank Gore sidelined for the rest of the season, the 49ers will look to Brian Westbrook to carry the brunt of the load.

I understand that he is facing a tough defense in Green Bay, but this is a starting running back. These are very hard to find on the free-agent market in fantasy leagues.

If you are in desperate need of filling a RB or flex position, take a chance on Brian Westbrook.

2. Toby Gerhart RB Minnesota Vikings

This one comes down to the health of Adrian Peterson.

The Vikings are still waiting on an MRI of the ankle Peterson injured last weekend. If AP cannot go, look to Gerhart to get the touches.

He showed last week that he is more than adept at punching the ball in with short yardage. With the Bills' defense up next, the Vikings could use someone to run in the ball in those goal-line stances.

1. Sam Bradford QB St. Louis Rams

Sam Bradford may be underused for good reason.

He is a rookie quarterback that has been plagued with inconsistency. But believe me, he will have a stellar game this Sunday.

The Rams should dominate the Cardinals on both sides of the ball this week.

This will give the Rams time to monitor the game the way they wish to. More than that, the Cardinals' secondary is trash.

Bradford will be like a fat kid at a taqueria. This will be one of his better games to date.
