Why The Miz Winning the Title Is An Awesome Business Move For The WWE

Nick PashNov 30, 2010

I’ve read a lot of articles on The Miz winning the WWE title this past week. Some were positive, some were negative. I think WWE made the right decision, and I do think The Miz is ready for the title, contrary to popular opinion.

Why do I think The Miz winning the strap is awesome for the WWE?

It’s simple, really. Look at how much the forums, not only here at Bleacher Report, but all over the web have blown up over The Miz winning in the past week. They certainly didn’t blow up this much over Cena being “fired” last week.

While not everyone agrees with The Miz winning the title, the way he was built to look before winning it, or the way he did it (which I’m completely fine with by the way), they are still talking about it.

That’s what WWE wants, people talking and arguing about it. And people watching it.

I guarantee more people are going to be tuning in to RAW, just to see what WWE is going to do next with The Miz and his title reign. It will be interesting to see what the ratings look like for last night's RAW.

I don't agree with how the The Miz was booked last night, but I do understand it. He's a heel champion that is of average size and cheats to win. He can lose the title at any time to most anyone. I can't remember the last time I thought Cena or Orton was going to lose a title match clean.

I think his in-ring skills have come a long way from where he was. He still has a lot of work to do in that area to reach the level of Daniel Bryan, Christian, CM Punk, etc. But he can definitely hold his own in that department.

What makes a good champ? Well, in-ring skills are definitely a huge part of it. If you can’t even tell a story with your match, then you have no business with the title.

While Miz is by no means the best wrestler in the business, he can tell a story with his matches. Last night's match with Lawler was a good example. Jerry Lawler is 61 years old, and he and The Miz put on a decent show. Nothing outstanding as far as wrestling, but a good story was told. People thought Lawler had a chance to win at the end.

I also think he’s a good talker, one of the best in the WWE. Promos are also a huge part of it, as well. The Miz is certainly one of the best talkers in the game. Of the CURRENT active WWE stars, I’d list him in the top tier.

He always draws heat, and yes, he may seem annoying to people, but that’s what a heel does, right? Makes you hate him and hope he loses? If that’s the case, then he’s doing his job.

His promo last night was great. It was drawing a lot of heat, but unfortunately, it ended horrible with Lawler and Cole interrupting. I see a ratings increase for RAW and just something new from a guy who can draw heat and isn't awful in the ring.

Please comment and let me know what you think, and I'll try to respond to all comments. If it's a bit long, I'm sorry. First article for BR, but hopefully not the last.
