WWE Championship Is in a Miz Champion World: Who Deserves It?

John KindelanNov 29, 2010

Allow me to push my way through the articles on Juan Cena and step up front and address another issue that is quite often plastered about, who is deserving of a WWE championship, and by Championship I should be specific in saying either the World Heavyweight title or the WWE championship.

Its clear as of late these two titles get more attention than any other one, we haven't had a decent story line in regards to either the US Title or, my personal favorite, the Intercontinental Title in some time. The current US champion Daniel Bryan has some heat brewing with Ted Dibiasse and the IC Title being held by Dolph Ziggler was just defended against Kaval, whether we see that feud continue to brew or if it was a one time thing we will have to wait and see.

With the attention of these two titles and the lack of story lines based on other conflicts we now have a lot fans clamoring for their favorites to hold one of these titles. Possibly a month ago I would have simply said that there is just no way that some superstars would ever carry the main strap and be the leader of the show, but with a victory by the Miz, the WWE has shown that they are willing to try different things to get watchers to be watching.

Monday Night Raw on the 29th is having a King of the Ring Tournament, other than the Celtic Warrior Sheamus not one of the superstars has held the WWE or World Heavyweight championship. History shows us though that the KOTR winner is someone whom usually goes on to greatness within the company. I'll make my picks now and say it will either be John Morrison continuing his push, and we will see him back with Melina or Alberto Del Rio who is clearly meant for great things, the man is a combo of JBL and Eddie.

But is it guaranteed that they'll go on to win the main championships? The last KOTR winner was William Regal, and while he has had a decorated career in the WWE he has never held either of the two main belts. But has he needed to? There is clamoring saying that if Regal retires they should let him win the WWE championship before he does, the man however has held the Tag Team Championship, the European Championship, The IC belt twice, and the Hardcore championship three times, I'd say that makes him a dedicated champion.

Another name often tossed around deserving of the World or WWE championship as of late is Christian. I personally don't see it happening, even in the world of Miz Championships. The argument often presented is that he's done so much, he's been with the company for so long, and his partner Edge has won the championship time and time again. Then we hear about the 'Janetty' effect. Where one superstar goes on to greatness ala Shawn Michaels and the other is thrown through the window of Brutus the Barber Beefcakes salon.

Lets look at Christians track record in WWE, two time ECW champ, three time IC champ, European, Hardcore, and Light Weight champ each one time and a nine time tag team champion. So with all the accolades why does he need the other two championships? Some say its a matter of you haven't made it big in the company unless you've earned either the Heavyweight or the WWE belt. I disagree, so many great superstars through out the history of the WWE have become great legends and they never held those belts, Roddy Piper, Jim Duggan, The Honky Tonk Man, or Rick Steamboat to name several.

Great tag teams like Legion of Doom, The Nasty Boys, Beefcake and Valentine, The New Age Outlaws and Demolition never became huge singles stars. Sure we've had JBL rise from the APA, Jeff Hardy emerge from the Hardy Boys, Booker T came from Harlem Heat, and of course Brett Hart from the Hart foundation but just because they started as great tag team champions doesn't mean they were meant to move on, those that did had the ability to get a crowd going on their own, whether it be being booed or being cheered any big reaction is a good reaction.

Christian, Chavo, William Regal all great decorated superstars who have earned multiple championships but never been that main event guy to stand on their own. Not everyone is meant to be in that spotlight some have tried had their run and then been used somewhere else, Swagger, Punk, Sheamus, and others continue to shine in that mid card spot like Kofi, MVP, Morrison and Santino, but if the likes they're being compared to are Mr. Perfect, Ricky Steamboat, Tito Santana, Rick Rude, Ken Paterra, Bob Holly and Roddy Piper, I don't think they have anything to complain about, and neither should we.
