King of the Ring 2010: The Return of Triple H?

Micheal RobinsonNov 27, 2010

We haven't seen Triple H in the WWE since he was defeated in a street fight with Sheamus at Extreme Rules back in April.

Triple H was forced to have surgery on a torn tendon and was expected to return this past summer.

Regardless if the injury took longer to heal or not, Triple H was promoted to higher ranks in the WWE.  With his in-ring days nearing a end, he was moved up to a Senior Advisor position underneath his father-in-law and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Also, Triple H celebrated the birth of another child with Stephanie, so he needed time off for that as well...

A lot of things have happened in the WWE since Triple H's surgery in April, Shawn Michaels has left, Kane has ruled Smackdown, John Cena has been "fired" and The Miz is the WWE Champion.

Now, the WWE can bring back Triple H anytime they see fit.  He has already made a quick in-ring return last month, by defeating Alberto Del Rio in a quick house show match at Madison Square Garden for Fan Appreciation Day, but WWE didn't advertise it on TV.

This Monday, the 19th King Of The Ring tournament will take place.

Since its inception in 1985, WWE King Of The Ring was a yearly event until 2002, with the exception of 1990 and 1992 when the tournament didn't take place.

After 2002, WWE decided to hold a King Of The Ring tournament on Raw in 2006 and 2008, which were won by Booker T and William Regal respectively.

After 2008, many believed it was done for good, but now it is back again.

Why the field may be set, don't think that all competitors are set in stone.  Anything can happen in the WWE at any moment.

Without John Cena on Raw due to his "firing", a Triple H return may be sooner than you think.

However, many are buzzing around the WWE Universe about John Cena returning as a masked wrestler known as "Juan Cena" (John Cena's Mexican Cousin).

Now, just because people have found this on different house show cards, doesn't mean we will have a return of a Mr. America type storyline that Hulk Hogan used in 2003, but you just never know.

Regardless if John Cena is out of the picture or not, you can have many scenarios play out during this years King Of The Ring tournament.

Having the eight competitors that are already announced wrestle in a clean tournament that is won by someone that is in the tournament, just doesn't seem like a right fit to me, especially since Cena said he will be ringside this Monday with a ticket.

Before this tournament was announced, I figured Triple H would be held out until the Royal Rumble match, but I just think that is too far away.

Let's take a look at the competitors that will be competing for the title of King Of The Ring this Monday:

Raw Superstars: Sheamus, John Morrison, Daniel Bryan, Ezekiel Jackson

SD Superstars: Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston, Alberto Del Rio, Cody Rhodes

Out of all of these superstars listed, the newcomer Alberto Del Rio sticks out as a big candidate to win the tournament as well as the "Chosen One" Drew McIntyre.

However, what name jumps out at me the most is Raw Superstar Sheamus.

Sheamus is the man who took Triple H out of action earlier this year.

WWE can choose to bring back Triple H for his final run as a wrestler in the WWE without finishing off the storyline with Sheamus, but it only seems fit for Triple H to bury this hatchet, even though the injury wasn't part of any kind of storyline.

As far as who is going to win the tournament, I just don't see it being any of the eight wrestlers listed above.

Also, its hard to believe that Wade Barrett and Nexus won't get involved somehow. With John Cena at ringside, anything can happen.

The way I see it, playing out logically in my head is Sheamus making it to the finals, but his opponent is too injured to complete and has to be replaced.

Enter, Triple H.

I hope we all get a chance to play the game again this Monday, cause it has been far too long without Triple H on WWE television.

It is time to start his final ride in the WWE off with a bang and a King Of The Ring crown.

Triple H has competed in three King Of The Ring tournaments (1996, 1997, 1998).  He won in 1997, defeating Mankind in the final round.

Only Bret Hart has won two King Of The Ring's (1991, 1993).

Triple H could win his second King Of The Ring this Monday, after all, he is the King of Kings.
