Remaining Fantasy Football Positional Rankings For Week 12: FFArmory.com

Tenny StegmanNov 27, 2010

QBs

  1. Aaron Rodgers @ Atlanta - 1 p.m. Sunday - The Falcons allow the 11th-most fantasy points to QBs and Rodge's numbers have actually increased since Finley went down. Go figure.
  2. Philip Rivers @ Indy - 8 p.m. Sunday - Eight TDs in his last two games? Things could get a little leaner for him as the Colts have only allowed 13 passing TDs on the year (and 13th-fewest fantasy points to QBs). Vincent Jackson and Legedu Naane are back, so he will still produce like a high end QB1.
  3. Peyton Manning vs. San Diego - 8 p.m. Sunday - Another week, another QB duel. The schedule-makers couldn't have done a better job with Peyton's game slate this season if they tried. He's already faced Eli, Brady, and Vick, and now goes up against Philip Rivers. Beware as the Chargers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to QBs.
  4. Michael Vick @ Chicago - 4 p.m. Sun - The Bears boast a pass defense that has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to QBs, and Vick was largely contained vs. the Giants last weekend, so it's not like he's invincible.
  5. Ben Roethlisberger @ Buffalo - 1 p.m. Sun - The only concern here is that if at least two of the first three TDs the Steelers score are not through the air, it could end up being slim pickings for Ben. That said, Mike Wallace is un-guardable on the fly route, and they run this play at least once and more often two or more per game.
  6. Kyle Orton vs. St. Louis - 4 p.m. Sun - The Rams have allowed the 11th-fewest fantasy points to QBs and are no longer the rollover defense they've been the last five to six years.

That said, Orton is averaging two TDs per home game against solid pass defenses (Colts, Seahawks, Jets, Raiders, and Chiefs). The pass attempts are too consistent for me to rank him any lower than this.
  7. Eli Manning vs. Jacksonville - 1 p.m. Sunday - As tempting as it is to get excited about Eli facing a Jags pass D that have allowed the 4th most fantasy points to QBs, just remember that his WR1 and WR2 are on the shelf for the next three to four weeks minimum. Kevin Boss, Mario Manningham, and some cat named Hagan are what he will be working with.

Expect a ton of rushing attempts, but you can still start him as a low-end QB1.

RBs

  1. Chris Johnson @ Houston - 1 p.m. Sun - I can't figure out why even a few people have declared CJ28 a bust. He's fourth in the league among RBs in a basic and sixth in a PPR, and the season is not over yet. Since the Titans traded for Moss, CJ28 has rushed for 247 yards and one TD in two games.

Both games were against decent rush defenses (Washington and Miami). Houston ranks in the middle of the league in fantasy points allowed to RBs. My expectations are high for him to blow it out this week.
  2. Adrian Peterson @ Washington - 1 p.m. Sunday - I am expecting the second best game of his 2010 campaign this Sunday as the Vikes thrive off the departure of Coach Childress. His two-game TD drought will come to an end against this 20th-ranked Redskin fantasy rush defense.
  3. Frank Gore @ Arizona - MNF - FDG goes up against division rival Cardinals who are allowing the eighth-most fantasy points to RBs this season. He totaled 225 yards (rush/pass) and three TDs in two games vs. the Cards last season.
  4. Peyton Hillis vs. Carolina - 1 p.m. Sunday - Where does this guy get drafted next year? I'm already stressed out about it. The Panthers are allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to RBs, so Hillis remains a RB1 play once again.
  5. Arian Foster vs. Tennessee - 1 p.m. Sunday - This is a pretty sweet match up pitting two of the games best every-down RBs against each other. The Titans are middle of the pack defending the run, and given that Foster ruined the Jets' image last week, you don't need much more from me to justify a high-end RB1 start for Foster.
  6. Steven Jackson @ Denver- 4 p.m. Sunday - Jackson owners can start to worry if he doesn't find pay dirt at least one time this weekend in Denver as they are the worst ranked fantasy rush defense in the NFL. His per carry rushing average is a bit down this season (4.0 which is the lowest of his career), and I would have expected the opposite effect w/ the stellar rookie play of Bradford. He should find success in Mile-High.
  7. Rashard Mendenhall @ Buffalo - 1 p.m. Sunday- He hasn't rushed for 100+ yards since Week Three when Charlie Batch was the QB, and it's not like he's been short on attempts, either. Take away the blowout vs. the Patriots, and he's averaging 20 carries per game. That offensive line is banged up, though. The Bills could be the right prescription to get Mendy back on track as they allow the fourth-most fantasy points to RBs.
  8. Darren McFadden vs. Miami - 4 p.m. Sunday- Miami ranks 13th defending the run (fantasy points to RBs) but have been torched by Adrian Peterson, the Jets backfield, CJ28, and Matt Forte. They've only allowed six rushing TDs, but allow 112 YPG on average.
McFadden had an ugly outing on the road vs. the Steelers, which was to be expected (Steelers rank #1 vs. the run), so better days are ahead.
  9. Maurice Jones-Drew @ NY Giants - 1 p.m. Sunday - This low ranking is only about the match-up. The G-men are fifth ranked defending fantasy RBs, and shut down Arian Foster earlier this season.

I will add, though, that CJ28 lit them up back in Week Three, but this team has sort of done an about-face since then. Keep expectations in check, but the shear volume of touches MJD is guaranteed makes him the best of remaining RB plays.
  10. Jamaal Charles @ Seattle - 4 p.m. Sunday - If he got even half of the goal-line carries in this offense he would be a top-five RB consideration every week. As things stand though, all of the goal-line work goes to his older and less effective counterpart, Thomas Jones. The 'hawks  defense is fifth worst defending RBs through 11 weeks of action. JC is a low-end RB1 play given his gaudy YPC average and game-breaking ability.
  11. Ray Rice vs. Tampa - 4 p.m. Sunday - He comes in at 12th in a PPR and 15th in a basic so far through 11 weeks.

    A bust?

I'd say maybe a little. He is still racking up the receiving yards, but the TDs are nowhere to be found (though he did punch in a shorty last week which is a good sign). Tampa is still fairly porous defending the run as they have allowed the 8th most fantasy points to RBs, so Ray remains a borderline RB1/2 consideration.
  12. Matt Forte vs. Philly - 4 p.m. Sunday - The 3.8 yard per carry average is a bit of a bum out, but put most of that on the ineffective play of this offensive line all season as Chester Taylor is averaging only 2.8 YPC. The Eagles have been decent defending the run with a 21st ranking and allowing only 4.0 YPC.

The good news for Forte owners is that he did not only receive a goal-line carry, but he converted it for six in Week 11.  Mike Martz might finally be realizing that he's sitting on a first place team and has an erratic QB that can lose games for you if forced to pass 35-40 times. The Bears are 0-2 in games where Cutler has attempted more than 35 passes, so I expect more rushing attempts out of Forte.

WRs

  1. Andre Johnson vs. Tennessee - 1 p.m. Sunday - Revis shut him down last week, but the Titans' Finnegan shouldn't strike similar fear into 'Dre or his owners. The Titans are right in the middle of the pack as far as fantasy pass defenses go.
  2. Dwayne Bowe @ Seattle - 4 p.m. Sunday - There is no hotter fantasy WR right now, and the Seahawks are the 25th-ranked fantasy pass D.
  3. Greg Jennings @ Atlanta - 1 p.m. Sunday - He's probably the second-hottest fantasy WR. Since Finley went down five games ago, Jennings hasn't had less than six catches in a game, and has caught six TDs over the same time-period. The Falcons have a weak secondary (22nd-ranked fantasy pass defense).
  4. Brandon Lloyd vs. St. Louis - 4 p.m. Sunday - Don't look now but Lloyd has added consistency to his now robust arsenal of receiving weaponry. Three straight games of six plus catches, and four TDs has me all-in on this cat. The Rams have the 11th-ranked fantasy pass defense, but Lloyd has had success against better (last week vs. the Chargers' #2 pass D he put up 78 yards and a score).
  5. Roddy White vs. Green Bay - 1 p.m. Sunday - The Packers are tough (eighth-best fantasy pass defense), but White is tougher. He's lit up the Ravens (fourth), Bengals (fifth), and Steelers (12th) so far this season, so don't even lower your expectations too much. Also, he plays much better at home (570 yards and five TDs compared to 447 yards and only two TDs on the road). He's home this week.

    "Cha Ching!"
  6. Larry Fitzgerald vs. San Francisco - Monday Night Football - He's averaging 6.5 catches for about 90 yards per game and has caught three TDs in his last four games. Those aren't mind-blowing numbers, but steady and worthy of low end WR1 consideration. The 49ers are the 19th-ranked fantasy pass defense.
  7. Mike Wallace @ Buffalo - 1 p.m. Sunday - I cannot wait until Week 15 (he'll face Revis) to test out my theory that he's not guardable. If anyone is looking for the true potential of this guy in dynasty or keeper leagues, just look at the Patriots game that Ward largely missed where he had 11 targets, 136 yards, and two TDs.

With Ward's return, though, Wallace's targets dropped back down to six in Week 11, but he was still able to make things happen. Wallace's owners only need to sweat whether Ben can continue to him in stride consistently.
  8. DeSean Jackson @ Chicago - 4 p.m. Sunday - I am not quite as concerned about DJax in this one as I am Maclin or Vick. The Bears' fantasy pass defense is third-ranked, however their strong suit is in the pass rush, and not as much with their cover corners. Vick should be able to buy himself some extra time so that DJax can blow past Charles Tillman or Tim Jennings at least once today.
  9. Stevie Johnson vs. Pittsburgh - 1 p.m. Sunday - Stevie's owners hopefully gave thanks to this little golden nugget this past Thursday. He's the ninth-ranked fantasy WR (basic and PPR), and was not drafted in any 12-team and under leagues. As Pittsburgh will work to get out in front early in this one, the Bills will again be left with no choice but to attempt another 35-40 passes making Stevie a WR1 start this weekend.
  10. Reggie Wayne vs. San Diego - 8 p.m. Sunday - I'd have him higher if not for his quasi-gimpy knee that held him out of practice so far this week. The Bolts are ranked second against the pass in fantasy this year, so it's not an optimal match up. But if Wayne is healthy, Manning will target him another 10 or so times.
  11. Anquan Boldin vs. Tampa - 4 p.m. Sunday - He's on somewhat of a fantasy dry-spell relative to the first half of 2010. He's averaging just over 35 yards per game over his last three on only one total TD. The Bucs are ranked seventh as far as fantasy pass defenses go, but haven't really faced many strong QBs this season (Cleveland, Carolina twice, Pittsburgh w/o Ben, Rams, Cardinals, and San Francisco were seven of their 10 games).
  12. Vincent Jackson @ Indianapolis - 8 p.m. Sunday - Whoever was savvy enough to pick this guy up and sit on him could be in for a monster five game stretch the rest of the way. Crayton is out, Malcom Floyd re-tweaked his hamstring, and Gates is still hobbling about on a torn fascia ligament.

The Chargers have no choice but to turn to their pro-bowl WR. Jackson has been practicing with the team for three weeks and has played 64 career games with Rivers under center, so you need not worry about timing and rapport. Any WR that is starting has potential this season. Seven different WR/TEs have scored at least 14.3 fantasy points on the Chargers in a game this year. Whether Gates is a go or not, get Jackson in there no matter what.

TEs

  1. Jacob Tamme vs. San Diego - 8 p.m. Sunday - For as good as the Chargers have been at defending opposing QBs, they have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to TEs. Tamme is in a distant first among TE starts every week as long as Gates remains on the shelf.
  2. Marcedes Lewis @ NY Giants - 1 p.m. Sunday - The Giants are nasty defending TEs (sixth-fewest fantasy points allowed). but what other attractive options are there at this point?  Tight Ends have been super brittle this season.
  3. Chris Cooley vs. Minny - 1 p.m. Sunday - He is a second only to Santana Moss in targets (78) on the Redskins, but only has two TDs on the year.

Let's blame that on McNabb, shall we?

Either way, PPR leaguers should be enthusiastic, but otherwise he's a marginal start like the rest of the TE playing field (save for Tamme).
  4. Tony Gonzalez vs. Green Bay - 1 p.m. Sunday - He's clearly old. And he hasn't found pay dirt in over a month. Did I mention he's playing Green Bay who has allowed the 3rd fewest passing TDs in the NFL through 11 weeks? The Packers allow the 14th-fewest fantasy points to opposing TEs.
  5. Joel Dreesen vs. TEN - 1 p.m. Sunday - He had a career day in Week 11, and the Titans do allow the 6th most fantasy points to TEs. Let's go on ahead and fire him up.
  6. Vernon Davis @ Arizona - Monday Night Football- He's playing on a bum ankle, so I'm not so sure he should be seeing the lofty ranking even in a thinned out TE player pool. The Cardinals allow the 12th-most fantasy points to TEs in 2010.
  7. Visanthe Shiancoe Washington - 1 p.m. Sunday- I think he should benefit from Favre having a bit more energy now that Childress is out of the picture. This theory is founded on pure gut, so don't get all pissed off if he doesn't roll. Most of what we do on this site is empirical, but we will occasionally get a little nutty.
