Vince Young Has Likely Seen His Last Snap As a Titan: Where's He Headed in 2011?
Titans head coach Jeff Fisher has had his differences with Vince Young in the past. Third overall pick Young was thrown to the wayside while Kerry Collins was given the key to the franchise. Collins had to completely fail and Young had to play exceptionally well to earn the trust of Fisher.
It appeared as though the two had found common ground, but all that changed when Vince Young threw his shoulder pads into the stands.
Fisher says Young quit on his team. Today, he made it clear that he did not want Young at the team's facilities. It is clear that Young and Fisher cannot coexist.
The franchise has invested a lot in Young, but with Fisher being the longest tenured coach in the entire league, it is unlikely the Titans will part ways with him.
As it stands, there are a number of teams with quarterback woes. Young might not be an MVP candidate, but he would be immediately improve the quarterback position for a number of teams across the league.
There are a few high prospects coming out of college, but Young is a quarterback with proven credentials. If teams can get Young on a discounted price, phones are likely to ring off the hook.
While the Bills, Browns and Jaguars could make a play for Young, they each have a quarterback who will likely suffice for what they want to accomplish. Let's take a look the teams that are likely to line up outside of Titans headquarters, should they choose to shop Young.
Miami Dolphins
1 of 8
The Miami Dolphins acquired Brandon Marshall, but we have not seen Marshall excel in the Miami offense.
Chad Pennington was brought into the starting job when Chad Henne struggled, but his season was cut short by an injury in his first game as a starter.
The Dolphins have a solid offensive line, though franchise left tackle Jake Long is out with a shoulder injury.
Next year, they need to address the quarterback position. Henne is still young, but with Vince Young, the Dolphins could utilize the talent in their offense immediately.
Washington Redskins
2 of 8
Redskins fans may object to being on this list, but with McNabb underachieving, the Redskins may need to seek other options at quarterback. McNabb just signed a huge contract, but he will only see 3.75 million dollars if he is cut after this season.
If his play does not improve, the Redskins are not likely to open up their checkbook. Mike Shanahan does not seem sold on McNabb just yet.
The move to Washington would be a new atmosphere for Young and could be a good transition for Washington. They would need to surround him with a couple more weapons, but the Redskins are not a team in shambles.
Arizona Cardinals
3 of 8
The Cardinals could have the worst quarterback situation in the NFL. The team lost future Hall of Famer Kurt Warner to retirement, and have done nothing to improve the quarterback position after his departure.
The team prematurely cut Matt Leinart, leaving them with Derek Anderson and undrafted rookie Max Hall to choose from. The team has gone back and forth, to no avail. Ken Whisenhunt is taking a lot of heat for cutting Leinart without a viable option behind him.
Larry Fitzgerald is struggling mightily, through no fault of his own. His contract is nearing the end and the team wants to keep him in Arizona. Bringing in a quarterback like Vince Young makes it easier to recruit Fitzgerald.
Minnesota Vikings
4 of 8
Brett Favre has seen his last season in Minnesota. While the Vikings have Tarvaris Jackson, they have also seen what could happen to their franchise should they have shaky quarterback play. The team would be gambling on Jackson if they chose to go that route.
The Vikings would be an electrifying offense once again with Young at the helm. Young would have arguably the best running back in the game at his disposal, so the lack of Chris Johnson wouldn't likely affect his play.
With a healthy receiving corps next year, the Vikings would be dangerous with Young at the helm. The defense is aging, so freeing up early draft picks to go defense would be in the team's best interest.
The team has a new head coach in Leslie Frazier. He will likely want to pick a quarterback he can have a relationship with for the long term, but who can win immediately. With a young offense at his disposal, Vince Young could dominate in that system.
Oakland Raiders
5 of 8
Al Davis could fall in love with Vince Young. Young is a physical specimen with speed and a huge arm. The team could get exactly what they were looking for in JaMarcus Russell from Vince Young.
The Raiders thought they addressed the quarterback situation by bringing in Jason Campbell. They have both Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski at their disposal, but Young is an obvious upgrade there.
Davis wants to win and with the acquisition of Young, the offense could be a real force.
The run game has made tremendous progress this season. Having a quarterback who could keep up would do wonders for their offense.
Carolina Panthers
6 of 8
The Panthers might have their quarterback of the future in Jimmy Clausen, but they certainly don't have the quarterback of the present on their roster. The Panthers are the worst team in the NFL.
They may be able to grab Andrew Luck in the upcoming draft, but with so many needs, having the luxury of not having to spend a draft pick on a quarterback would be beneficial.
All parties involved don't win in this situation. Vince Young would get the short end of the stick, barring a lucrative contract. With holes all over the line and only one real threat at wide out, Carolina would be the worst place for Young to go of all the feasible candidates.
Seattle Seahawks
7 of 8
Matt Hasselbeck is on his last leg. The Seahawks are seeing their franchise quarterback approach the end of his career. While Charlie Whitehurst was brought in during the off-season, he did not look impressive when he filled in for Hasselbeck.
Pete Carroll happened to coach at USC when Vince Young single-handedly dominated USC in the National Championship. Carroll knows exactly what Young brings to the table.
Hasselbeck likely has one or two more years of football in him. This would make the Seahawks a team who could groom a quarterback prospect, which is the only reason I could see them passing on Young to go for a quarterback in the draft.
It is unclear who will be available for Seattle in the draft, especially since there is a chance they could win the division.
San Francisco 49ers
8 of 8
The 49ers have a serious hole at quarterback. They have struggled with Alex Smith since they drafted him. It appeared they might have a solid option when Troy Smith excelled for a couple of games, but he laid an egg at Candlestick for the first time since 1977 in his home debut.
Mike Singletary is likely finishing up his last season as the head coach of the 49ers. When a new coach comes in, they will likely address the most glaring hole on the roster: quarterback.
The 49ers have three first-round offensive linemen on their team, four if you count Vernon Davis. With Michael Crabtree at wide receiver and Frank Gore in the backfield, the 49ers are running out of excuses.
Vince Young would come in immediately and win in San Francisco. The 49ers got burned by drafting a quarterback, so getting a quarterback where they know exactly what they are getting has to be appealing.
They need a solid pass rusher and the addition of Young would allow them to explore options in the draft.
